Ocean Lodge Santa Monica Beach Hotel3.0 out of 5.0

Clearly you are paying for the excellent location to both beach & town in equal measure. The room is reasonably basic which isn't a problem, you're not here to spend time in the hotel other than sleep. bed was okay nothing special. The water pressure was abysmal, had to vertually run around in the shower to get wet! The hotel is overpriced for its facilities but as I said its location is perfect and the parking charge is outrageously expensive ($33) for what feels like squeezing a quart into a pint pot!
We were a party of 5 looking for a suite. We found this place offering a 2 bedroom suite near the Santa Monica pier. It is near the pier. But to call it a suite is pure poetic license. The first room you walk into is a regular but tiny motel room with one queen and one single bed, a/c and a TV. Off that is another even tinier room with a queen bed, a TV but no a/c. There is a bathroom and a space containing a fridge and a coffee maker. So in the 2nd room we had to sleep with the window open, letting in all the night noises including yelling, cars speeding and the street cleaner machine at 3am. The coffee maker has no glass jug. Which didn't matter because there were no supplies. The front room has a tiny desk, but no power outlet for a laptop. There's one chair. For 5 people. The bathroom is totally not thought out. For 5 people there is one 3' towel rail. No hooks on the door. A water tap with pathetic flow. There is no wardrobe. there's a walk in storage cupboard, but incapable of storing more than one suitcase without removing the fan that's stored there and the safe. The whole place exudes "we don't really care for your comfort". Outside, there are security gates with code locks. Probably necessary in the neighborhood? But if you check in late and it's dark, you have a problem. There is no illumination of the keypads. Just not thought through! It would make a huge difference if the owners invested a few hours and a few dollars on hooks and towel rails, a proper coffee maker and supplies, and power to the desk. But it's patently clear they don't care.
5 people. Mix of family & friends. Accomodation was small & crowded. No living space. The photos on the computer stretch the truth. The beds take up all the space. It is clean but not comfortable for so many people. We had 2 sleeping rooms. 1 was private the other was the living space with TV etc. & 1 queen bed & a single. The coffee maker had no jug in it so of no use.
We chose the Ocean Lodge Hotel as we wanted the complete "Goliath" experience. You cannot beat the location as it is steps from the beach and Santa Monica Pier. The plus for us was it being ten steps from Chez Jay. The room was basic but it was clean, had a fridge and offered free wifi. We did not spend a lot of time in the room so for us this hotel was a good option. Our only disappointment was the charge for parking.
Nice place, Great Location, Comfortable Rooms - Staff was helpful too, we’ll return ! 1st time in Santa Monica, this is the place in Goliath, love the show and Chez Jay restaurant On Site - WiFi was Free & Fast.
we stayed here the last weekend In June. the location is great literally steps from the beach and pier. the staff was friendly and accomadating and rooms were clean. also one of the least expensive options in santa Monica glad we chose this.
This was an affordable option with enough beds for a family with teens. Short walk to the pier, beach, and shops / restaurants. Staff were helpful and friendly. You can hear the adjoining room conversations and street noise - but the location is the main focus.
This hotel was very unscrupulous! The rate I was charged from my Expedia reservation for a cancellable room was double the amount being advertised the day I checked in. I was charged $435 for a super crappy room with old, uncomfortable mattresses (gross) I asked to cancel the room and rebook at the day’s rate, which $200 less and they told me the best they could do was take $50 off. What a huge disappointment to the end of a fantastic vacation. Do not stay at this hotel unless you like to be screwed over and over charged to stay in a icky room (on a nice street).
Great location and clean rooms. Spent the 4th of July here in a 2 bedroom top floor with a view of Ocean Ave and all the people enjoying their day. A few steps away from the pier, entertainment and restaraunts. We highly Recommend the Ocean Lodge! AAA
It reminded me of the 50's. Yet, it is featured in the current Amazon series "Goliath". Had everything necessary including plenty of towels and coffee in the room. WiFi quite good. Parking is a hassle. Best bet is to arrive early and pay the fee for one of the four on-site spaces. Adjacent parking is half the price but with no in and out allowed. Front desk staff varies widely. Woman was very helpful. Guy offered no help when some mangy cur took part of our expensive parking place. Chez Jay right next door is a big plus. Great location.
