Got in early and went to the office at 8 Craven Hill and dropped off the baggage to hold and went out to see the city. The staff person, an attractive (but older) Hungarian woman was very kind and trustworthy. She told me she would be there still around 2pm when I could get the key. Upon return she knew where my bags were and gave me my key. It was a short 5 minute walk and closer to the station. The key card gets you in the building and in the apartment. Unlike others, the cleaning job done in the apartment studio was solid. No hair at the foot of the bed, no bed bugs, and the floor was swept. It was quiet. The shower was just ok and small. If I was fat, the shower and me would not fit - oh the studio I was in was #4 - closest to the front of the street on the ground floor (not the basement/garden level but the ground floor). Being in a square it was quiet for a Saturday night no issues at all. A bunch of smaller hotels are all clustered together too but no issues at all. I also forgot my key when I went for dinner and thank goodness the office does not close down till close to 11pm as I went back and got another one. If it had been after the office closes, I have no idea what I would have done with the emergency number or how long it would have taken to sort me out. The second guy who made my second key was also super and nice and took care to get ID from me first before making the key. All in all, I understand why others may have had a bad experience due to a sloppy cleaner that does not change sheets and the like. But this time, for me, this was spot on and the price was very good for London.
My wife and I found this studio lovely on the pictures, and the location was quite convenient, next to Paddington station where I could take the subway to Heathrow. We arrived around 11:30am at the "reception" and was informed that my room was being serviced, to come back after 2pm to do the check in. After doing the check in and walking 10mins on the streets with luggages we arrived at the Talbot Square and tried to find our room at the last floor. The apartment looked ok, with a full kitchen and then we found was a used Burguer King cup at the window, next to the bed (Wasn't the room being serviced?). Anyway, we left it there and went to bed to sleep after a long trip. I woke up scratching my arms, hands, legs and feet and realized I had a lot of bites and thought maybe I passed some place with fleas or something so I changed my clothes and continued to enjoy my vacation in UK. Next day, when my wife woke up she had the same bites. To make it worse, the hot water was gone. We waited a while to check if ti wasn't only because they had a small boiler for the building but didn't work. I called the reception and they told they would be there in 20mins to check. After 1h30 nobody called, nobody knocked the door and the water was still cold. Because of the bites we took the linen out of the bed to see what was below and the bed cover was completely full of hair (From other people, with different hair color and length), debris and was dirty. It was enough to me, I didn't even took it out to check the mattress, just checked out and moved to another hotel. I preferred to loose a few bucks as there was no refund on my rate than compromising my vacation. I have pictures from all (Bed, bites, BK cup) but I don't think it is necessary to post here, right?
A party of 6 including two children of 8 and 4. Despite prior booking seating layout very cramped. Staff very helpful and went out of their way to assist in the children meals. Food arrived promptly, some elements very good such as the pork but the smashed potatoes were very dry and the gravy was spartan. Prices are low and the food was average plus. A really nice old building and we would try it again perhaps on a less busy evening.
We stayed here for a group trip in Nov. 2017 (our group had separate rooms) and this review is for our personal experience. The room we booked was for 3 people, because at the time of booking, we were going to be 3 persons in 1 room. The flat was in the 4th floor, and there was an elevator (but, be aware: the elevator can probably carry 2 persons with small luggages or 1 person with a large luggage at any one time). The flat was bigger than I had imagined, there was 2 beds, 1 full size and 1 twin. No wall separating the beds, it's all in one (studio type) room. There's a kitchenette with 2 electric burners, utensils, plates and kitchenware in the cupboards if you wish to use them. There's also a mini fridge and electric kettle for making coffee or tea. The bathroom is a shower stall, very clean and tidy, with a toilet and sink. All the plugs in the flat worked, just don't forget to being a UK specific plug or you might run into problems (we did not). Check in is on 8 craven street (it's where you pick up the keys or rather the keycard) and then the walk back to 9 Talbot street is about 7 minutes on foot. There's a taxi service but at the time of check in it would've taken 45 minutes wait due to it being unavailable at the time. That was not a problem for us, however. The flat is 5 minutes walk from Paddington (train) station and is the stop for Heathrow express passengers. No stairs, all flat surface. Very convenient access to central London for all the tourist attractions as well as lovely shops all around with food prices ranging from £5.95 to upwards (for the more expensive restaurants). We love breakfasts at Mimo's which is literally around the corner because it was cheap and filling (full english breakfast was £5.95). Overall, our stay was wonderful. No problems with heating or safety into or out of the flat or the surrounding areas. Bus stops were plenty and less than 5 minutes walk. And the price we paid was CHEAPER than an Airbnb for the same area. Will absolutely try to stay here again when we return to London (hopefully they're not fully booked then).
Booking and arrangements were easy, the accommodation itself was clean, comfortable and well equipped and nice and quiet. It is within walking distance of Paddington Station and the reception desk will look after your bags to save carrying them around London.
On arrival at 10.30pm,the hotel had no transport to take us to our apartment for 45 mins, so the guy gave us the choice of walk or wait outside as they close at 10.40pm. We chose to walk. Flat was stinking of sour milk or something under the sink, but the office was closed. The towels were stained, and bottom of shower was all rusty. It definitely wasn't luxury and not worth the cost. I wouldn't advise anyone else to use them.
On arrival, we had to check in at another hotel 10 minute walk away. The company says it supplies a taxi, but there was none! We had to walk late at night through streets we did not know with suitcases and a very tired 11year old. First thing that struck us when we opened our room door was the awful smell, like sour milk or cheese. We tried numerous phone calls but no one answered so basically we were stuck! My bed was high at the bottom and low at the head - definitely broken. The fridge was broken, TV didn't work and the towels were stained. No cleaner came next day, towels, tea & coffee were not replenished. And ughhh... that lingering smell, it was there from when we arrived until we left!
Price is okay for this, location is good and it is comfortable for what you get. The ground floor you can hear the entry and exit of people. Read some of the other reviews, if you expect a basic accommodation you won't be disappointed. Beats staying in backpackers!
Studio apartment was exactly as expected. Great location, very quiet. However website hid in the small print that the location of the 'front desk' was a 10 minute walk away. There is nothing on the door to indicate how you contact them or directions to the office. A frustrating waste of time finding how to get to the other location.
A lovely apartment with fantastic amenities and very central to nearby train stations and attractions. Staff were very helpful and accommodating and I would definitely stay there again when I travel. Slightly noisy but not enough to keep you awake at night. Overall a very pleasant stay. Adnaan Nana South Africa
