I'll start with the location, which was great. It is right next to the train station, so getting to/from for travel needs couldn't be easier. It's also close to the Old Town, and about anything else you'll want to walk to around Luzern. There is a stair/escalator right outside the front doors to go to the underground shopping area, or get across the road. It was convenient for me because of the grocery (COOP) right there, and Bachmann. The staff was super friendly, and helpful. As others have mentioned, the elevator is small, and not super fast. I always took the stairs down, but never had to wait for a second trip of the elevator. The stairs are big, and every floor has a little sitting area. If you have to wait for the elevator, just use the stairs and burn off some calories so you can go have yourself another chocolate truffle! My room was very nice. I got a room with a "water view". I was perfectly happy with it, and liked watching the boats, the traffic and the people. I'd stay in the room again. The bed (King) was comfy, and I slept very well. The only complaint, of course, is the lack of a/c. But, the staff was accommodating and provided 2 fans for us. I used one on each side of the bed and has no issues staying comfortable. And, I was there at the end up June, which was fairly warm. The window also opened. It has no screen, but that was fine since I liked to take pictures out the window. I didn't get any bugs. I like the mix of old charm and modernness of the hotel. As well, I enjoyed the breakfast. The food was good, and it was nice looking out at the street while starting my day. Overall, I can't think of any deserved complaints. The lack of a/c was a known when going, as was the small elevator. And those are only reasons I give it 4 stars. If I ever end up back in Luzern, which I hope to do, I'd certainly contact Hotel Monopol again for a reservation.
The hotel is in a great position, a very short walk from the train station and so convenient to all areas of beautiful Lucerne. Our room (suite) was lovely and large but was disappointed the roof top bar was being renovated while we were there. On arrival we were surprised to see a Starbucks in the entrance.
The location can't be beat, the front desk and overall customer service is great, but this hotel NEEDS air conditioning in the rooms. Otherwise I would give it 5 stars. It's very clean, the bed was comfortable, & it had the largest bathroom of any of our hotels in Europe. It is right next to the train station and the water, and is a short walk to the old town area. I would stay here again in a heartbeat if they had A/C. Travelocity showed that this hotel had A/C, so my mistake for not calling ahead to check. If you're there when it's not hot, it won't be an issue, so I would stay here for sure. A room in the back would be much better than facing the street. It was quite loud at night, and we had to leave our window open or we would have sweat to death in the night. One more small complaint is the fans only run for 3 hours. So my husband had to keep getting up in the night and restarting the timer. For the price of this hotel, they need to have A/C or at minimum, don't be so cheap to have fans that only run 180 minutes.
The hotel is extremely convenient to old town, the train and bus. It's a bit dated but still clean and charming. There is a Starbucks in the lobby which was nice. I would stay there again. Saturday night is CRAZY!!! There are many clubs nearby. Unless you are under 30 and like that scene, I would avoid Sat night. But not just here, the entire area.
We stayed at monopol lucerne for 4 nights. It's a monumental type hotel with all basic amenities. The best part of this hotel is the location . It's in the heart of city with all things accessible nearby.only thing was the weather being little hot in afternoon there is no air conditioning in the rooms which was little difficult. Breakfast is very basic. Otherwise a nice and pleasant stay😊
The room was nice. My favorite part was the breakfast! They do a great job. So many yummy cheeses, fresh baked breads and delicious toppings. I'd definitely stay here again. The location was very convenient.
Hotel Monopol The room was so hot we could not sleep on our Europe arrival night. The Monopol nor Amoma.com would let us out of second night; We booked two nights in the Monopol for June 21/22. When we checked and went to the room and it was so hot in there we had to leave. We asked for a different room but they were full But offered to get 2 fans and with windows open it should cool down. We didn't unpack. Came back a few hours later after dinner and it was little difference. We talked to front desk and Amoma about leaving the next day to no avail. Seemed neither would let us out blaming each other. After a miserable night of heat and humidity, loud street noise causing no sleep we left at 10:00 the next day without a room and said if we can't find one we could be back. Amoma was to find us an alternative but after an hour they had already rebooked the room and yet we could not get out of paying the 2nd night. We found a room our selves at the nearby Radisson Blue with Air conditioning and a wonderful room. We visit Europe a couple times a year and Lucern often. We will never stay at the Monopol again nor use Amoma.com. We will stay at the Radisson Blu or the Waldstatterhof as we have stayed there many times.
The Monopol is a fine heritage hotel across the street from the Lucerne Bahnoff train station. Our room was a little small, with a clean bathroom. The linen was also very good. There was no air conditioning, which is very typical of Swiss hotels, but the room had a large window. Although we were quite comfortable with window open. The staff at the desk was very helpful, and the room was fairly priced by Swiss standards, generally more expensive than other parts of Europe. It was quite comfortable and perfect for roaming around Lucerne and places nearby. The hotel is very near to various modes of transport like cruises, trams and busses etc. The breakfast was also good.
Very beautiful and central. I like this hotel because it is next to the train station and the subway. There is no air-conditioning but fans are provided in case you need one. High end shopping can be found just one street away but be sure to look around first. The Rolex building does not give you the best prices for branded bags. The little shops around it are gems not to be missed. There is also a big shopping departmental store Maddison that is worth a look.
The hotel is at a very central location which is just next to the main station. It's location makes it perfect base in lucerne. Rooms are big nice and clean. The room service and front desk people are awesome. I highly recommend this hotel!!!!
