We were guests at Howard Johnson Kitchener May 4th and 5th of May for a hockey tournament. We were aware the hotel was older ,however accommodation was scarce due to the tournament, so we took a chance....regretfully.The hotel and rooms are tired and neglected. The bed sheets were clean but the toilet bowl was dirty . We would not stay there again nor recommend it unfortunately.
Stay here 2 weekends ago before the Waterloo Marathon. Check in was good, staff was really polite and professional, and breakfast was very good, but this hotel is really dated and in desperate need of a makeover/reno - starting with a new carpet throughout. I just needed a place to rest before the marathon (instead of driving from 2 hours away before the marathon) and this place did the job. I would not stay here again though.
I found the rooms to be clean in general. The hall ways seem to be a little sketchie. The pool was nice but they advertise a hot tub which has apparently been "out of order" for a long time and they have no intention of fixing it. I was there for a tournament and we booked the hotel because we wanted a hot tub so that was very disappointing and I felt a little ripped off. If they aren't going to fix it they should take it off the website. The breakfast was sub par but at the same time it had enough to get you going. I would go back since the price is decent and the location was central enough to get anywhere in 15 minutes. Don't expect luxury but it has the essentials. There is a lot of stores with in walking distance too which was handy.
We had placed our reservation on line about a month & half ago, we had 2 rooms. The request was made for 2 rooms, late arrival [about 10:45p] our rooms were guaranteed. When we arrived there, the front desk person was not very friendly. This shocked me as I had always stayed in a HoJo hotel with my parents travelling down the eastern seaboard for many years. It really disappointed me about the way the person paying our rooms was treated by the desk clerk. What a No-No in treatment of a customer! Found out our rooms had been given away because they did not know we were coming.. Then tell me what is a confirmation paper from hotel 1.5 months earlier confirming all what we needed...Crap we had luggage & coolers - had to travel all the way around the pool and up stairs, I didn't want to touch the hand rail. Non smoking rooms? I don't think this hotel gives a darn. Our friends walked into their room, it smelt like cigar smoke - then tell me what a non smoking room is to smell like? They called down to front desk, were told there were no more rooms available, we walked into our room and the cover for the heater/air conditioner was laying on the floor....there were notes everywhere telling you if you took anything what you had to pay! I called down to front desk told them that the cover was off, I t was noted that we would not be charged. The fan never shut off all night, my friend put ear plugs in, she heard nothing, me..being a light sleeper, had a great sleep when I got home to my place the next night. My friend had a shower - cleaning staff obviously didn't clean the room, there was a used bar of soap in the shower! UGLY! This send shivers up my spine even now typing this note. Another thing, turned out we had a continental breakfast...no fruit, no waffles to make [frozen ones laying in sleeves for those to toast], coffee [ I threw mine out - Went to Tim Horton's across the road], someone needs to rethink their breakfast room. I was talking to another traveler, turned out they were the same room as us the weekend before - the cover was off the heater/air conditioner then too. Don't you folks ever Fix things when they are broken. Please Don't Stay at this hotel!
Filthy place. Our bathroom was disgusting when we got there - place reeked like death and there was hookers getting kicked out as we came in. Heard front desk talking to one of my friends about a booking mix up and wanted to "take it outside" and he was "ready to knock him out". Miserable staff. Continental breakfast is stale fruit loops and mouldy bagels. The sign on the back of my door said our room was supposed to be $200 a night..... I can't even comprehend that. I couldn't take enough showers to get the smell out of my hair after staying here for one night. Will never return.
I stayed their for one night and the first room had soaking wet carpet from the previous guest over filling the bathtub. Not sure why they would have another guest stay their. Then the new room 252 in the tower had bed bugs. I went to two different doctors to confirm and both said there were bed bug bites. NEVER STAY HERE!!! Left two messages for the manager to call me. Never received a call
Really rough looking place from the moment we parked out vehicle. At first I thought it was closed as there were weeds growing all over the parking lot. My daughter and I literally went up the elevator saw the room and came down. The room smelt like smoke and disinfectant and it was in really rough shape. The elevator had graffiti scratched into the metal and the pool and amenities had all been shut down. Could not get out of there fast enough...by the way they did refund our money no questions asked....from the reaction (or lack of) I'm sure I was not the first customer to exit this way!1
I wanted a cheap hotel for a week or so. Was told smoking places were cheaper. After barely a night here, we will never go for a smoking place again. They don't clean. Even if you clean it, which we did with Clorox wipes, it's dirty. I wouldn't shower there and instead went to a friend's while my husband checked out. The carpet clearly needed vacuuming. The sink, toilet and tub were not cleaned. I've travelled all across Canada and I rate this the worst room we've ever rented! I don't know why Howard Johnson let's them put their name on this garbage can.
The Beds are comfortable and clean. The hotel is very dated and somewhat dark. Breakfast room has no windows and felt very closed in. It needs refreshing. Hallways need more lighting. Our room was not made on our second day. Staff was friendly. Price of room was very reasonable.
Found bed bugs in room. was told that I must have brought them in with me. was offered a 10% discount which I found offensive
