Mercure Exeter Rougemont Hotel

The hotel is nicely decorated and maintained in public areas. Our room was on the 4th floor. Beware! The lift only goes the the 3rd floor and we reached our room after climbing a series of staircases, some narrow and steep to what felt like the attic - not ideal with bulky cases. The room was well decorated but surprisingly dusty. We told reception, not as a complaint, but so housekeeping can correct this in future. Enjoyed our drinks in the bar, Vera was efficient and friendly and saved this rating from poor to average. Breakfast was shambolic. We were sat down on an unlaid table. No glasses for orange juice then orange juice was empty when I got one, 5 minute wait for OJ to be replenished. After 10 mins waiting we had to ask for tea. Then had to ask for teaspoons to stir said tea. Could be more efficient and cleaning standards improved.

Literally a couple of minutes walk from the town centre and a few more to the lively Quays area with its excellent bars and cafes. Reception and check in was painless and the room comfortable and well equipped. Staff were brilliant. The restaurant was for some reason closed and the bar was not really a great replacement, being okay rather than reaching the standards of the remainder of the hotel.

This is definitely one of our favourite hotels. The room was lovely and spacious and very tidy, the bathroom was great, the actual interior of the hotel was very nice, grand staircase, stained glass and paintings gave the place a nice touch. The hotel is in a great location, right in the centre of town, everything is around you, lots of good restaurants and shops and the train station (Exeter Central) is right opposite. The staff was a cherry to the cake. We would really like to thank Leslie, a lovely lady working at the reception, for her friendliness and her smiles and just genuinely being such a lovely person. Also thank you to Elaine for being so friendly and helpful at the bar in the selection of wines. And a general thank you to the staff who were all very friendly and always smiling, that was really nice.

stayed last week ,2 rooms. with my family. the staff were brilliant, every body could not do enough to make are stay very pleasant. from an early check in, to a great breakfast.hotel is a short walk to good shops. and restaurants.

Everything about this hotel was spot-on: the room, the amenities, the cleanliness of the place, the excellent internet connection and the impeccable behaviour of the staff. Located across the street from the town's central train stration, the hotel was a 5-10 minutes' walk from the cathedral or the river promenade

Location Centrally located opposite to main entrance of Central Railway station, stone throw from Bars, Restaurants and High Street. Less than 10 minutes walk from the Coach Station. I would recommend the hotel for its location, specially the location being central and on flat part of Exeter. Room Are small sized compared to typical Mercure property. Nice Clean as one would expect. The electric sockets are not international, which may be ok for Bread-Breakfast but not from international chain of hotels. Seems the kind kind of room is pot-luck, I was worried if the room will be too warm or too cold. The windows opened just fine to adjust the temperature. I was on Floor 2 [Its Ground +2]. Beds are on small side. I was in double room, but felt it was not adequate for two people, luckily I was travelling single. The table in the room is too small to do any work at all, and the chair is not of adequate height. TV Channels are Free-View only, which is again fine for typical Bread-Breakfast hotel but not expected from Mercure, sould have few popular entertainment channels like HBO. Breakfast I agree with others, the breakfast is not worth GBP 16 per person. Much better at Brody's next door. And, the place is in town, so next time I am not booking breakfast, if I am staying at this location. Some staff members are very hard working, and few lack basic training to even greet the guest, or aware of the items on breakfast menu, such as if hot chocolate or warm milk is included or one has to pay extra. Very limited vegetarian (i.e. incl dairy but not eggs) options.. Accor Specific / Member Status Specific. Incomplete Toiletries, there was a note to call reception if something missing, only if they pick up. Standard practice is, for guests staying long, provide full set of toiletries / slippers etc. on first day of arrival and then replace what's needed or missing as per request/use. Service phone to reception or anywhere does not get picked. At least should have welcome complimentary water bottles, with a note that Tap water is safe for drinking, and copy of some certification. Hotel was aware that international traveler is staying at their property. These are basics. Staff not trained or aware that, based on occupancy, premier guests can request free extended stay, and based on review by other guests, did not decided to press on the service and have an argument about it at check-out. Planet 21 The hotel need to do much more, to call themselves environment friendly. The electricity in room should be key card activated. Soaps should not be replaced every day or at all. Just the extra set be placed, so that the guest can replace the same if needed. Same for towels, those placed on floor should or on chair should be replaced. Method to let service staff know, if I would like the bedsheets changed or not. Towards the end felt like, I should put do not disturb sign, but needed staff to re-fill my coffee rack, and reception / room service may not pick the phone. In One Sentence Great property, good staff. Not value for money. Not at par with Mercure standards I have experienced. High rating when compared to typical Bread-Breakfast hotel. Good for 1-2 night stay, or large group stay. I have not crossed it off my list, but would definitely look for alternative options more closely.

Having mis-clicked the date on the booking website, I immediately phoned Accor hotels (within 1 minute), to correct it. I was put through to a call centre where an extremely rude and unpleasant man seemed to actively enjoy telling me that I would be charged for the mis-booked visit and did I want to pay a second time to book on the date I originally intended! Having a policy like this is extremely poor business sense (I will never use Accor group again and will in fact tell lots of other people I know, of my experience), but to top it off with a call centre who epitomise the word "jobsworth" and didn't even have the courtesy to apologise or even be polite, is bordering on a desire to reduce bookings. Thanks Accor, you spoiled my anniversary weekend, making what should of been a happy experience into a sad one.

Having just stayed at the Mercure Rougemont hotel in Exeter, my Wife and I had a wonderful stay. The hotel has just had a total refurbishment and all the public rooms and bedrooms are very smart. Our bedroom had a brand new walk in shower , all nicely tiled, a lot of money has been spent on this renovation program. The staff are very obliging and the hotel is very central for touring round the area. The car park only has 26 spaces and is charged at £10 per day which is a nuisance. This did not cause us a problem as we were visiting friends who let us park on their drive. However there are public car parks in Exeter. The hotel is very reasonably priced for a for a very smart property.we only had breakfast at the hotel so I cannot comment about other meals, however the breakfasts could do with improvement, regarding the choice and not always hot.My other pet hate is cheap vinegar tasting ketchup, which would not be expensive to provide. This is not a major moan but an improvement on breakfasts would be a major benefit to this lovely hotel.

I stayed here in August 2017 with my family. The hotel was ideal centrally located and the room was a large size catering for the four of us. We had a privilege room which can with a few drinks in the fridge and also a Nespresso machine. Breakfast was good, a standard large buffet style. My only reason for not giving 5 stars is the parking which is extremely small for a medium to large hotel. That said overall a great stay.

The room itself was really nice, with a decent sized shower room, however was disappointed there was no bath. The room was far too warm, and the window would not open enough to allow enough air in. The car park again is too small and should be indicated on the web page that it unlikely that you will get a space, as with other reviewers it is not that good having to trawl all your luggage through a shopping centre. We did not have breakfast as £15.95 each seemed overpriced when you have a small appetite. Luckily there is a really great all you can eat breakfast bar around the corner, Brody's, where you can get unlimited toast from £3.99. On the plus side it has an excellent location amongst all bars, restaurants and shops and close to both stations.
