Convenient location. Although rooms were clean, daily housekeeping left much to be desired. Out our 4 days here we had to call office for services every day. Neglect was failure to empty trash, leave toliet and facial tissue, need for linens. Their pillows were king size and hard as bricks. Altho a member of marriott program, no choice of pillows. We have stayed here for several days at least once a year and this is standard behavior. Hopefully the management will take a refresher course on management.
Average pricing for the area, there is also a town place suites (cheaper, lower end and a Fairfield Inn (sometimes more expensive) on the same property. Pluses - Staff was friendly. The breakfast included rice / rice cooker and above average assortment of hotel breakfast selections. The room had very good lighting over the vanity, several places for plugging in, lots of room in the living areas. My room had a tub, which some like. My room was on 3rd floor and quiet. Minuses - very small shower/toilet room. Poor general lighting in room, for whatever reason - poor reception on tv. VERY poor free WiFI. I did to look into the pay version of the WiFI, I just could not get receiption. Somewhat lack of both hot water and water pressure. I would come again and take my chances on a better room. This property is very close to several restaurants and a small mall.
Front desk clerk was wonderful and helpful. Unfortunately the room was not clean. The cooktop was greasy. There was a pile of spilled pet food in the closet. The tv remotes were grungy. Breakfast was adequate other than the coffee being full of grounds. The location is great and the bed was comfy.
I host a hockey event in Metro Detroit; this year has been the 12th annual. For the past 7 years we have been using the Residence Inn Detroit Livonia as our host hotel. They have been so accommodating every year - from Sarah and Steve to all of the hotel employees that always go out of their way to make our stay a memorable one. I would never consider another hotel in the area! We'll see you next year!
I was long term guest about five years ago, and seeing as I was back in the area, I was interested to see how the place was doing. The biggest change was a recent renovation of the rooms. They now look very clean and modern. The reception/breakfast area has also been updated. Certain things remain from my last visit - The location is safe, quiet, with close proximity to some stores and restaurants and easy access to I-275 - about 20 minutes drive from the airport and downtown Detroit. Most importantly I was pleased to see the high levels of customer service have been maintained, as I needed some assitance with an issue with my booking and the front desk employee was very helpful.
We appreciated attention to suggestions made after our stay in 2015. Room was clean, carpet looked quite new and clean, and staff were friendly. Close to shopping and eatries. Watch for the geese in the nearby lake.
We have used this Residence Inn property on a regular basis since 2002. It was always our favorite and only choice whenever we visited the Detroit, MI area. No more. Our recent experience, May 13-15, 2016, was extremely disappointing. We are Marriott Reward Silver holders. But having to use Reward points only added to our disgust. The first room we were assigned, Room 408, reeked of mold and mildew. Housekeeping attempted to cover up the awful smell with some type of aerosol spray that only made the smelly situation worst. We immediately complained to the Front Desk and were re-assigned to Room 424. That room also musty and smelled like mildew, but it appeared tolerable. It wasn't. The bathtub, vanity sink and kitchen sink was caked with soap scum. We informed the Housekeeper assigned to our room and asked her to use a little more effort in cleaning those areas. She did. The results were readily apparent. But the issues didn't stop there. The bathroom vent fan was so weak it was useless; the coffee maker was obviously broken and had to be replaced before we could have morning coffee; the door of the dishwasher literally pulled away from its frame when we tried to open it; and, the peep-hole in the room front door was missing. Someone had stuck tissue paper in the peep-hole to keep anyone on the outside from looking into the room. Oh, by the way, the toilet tissue was a grade or two BELOW what one could get at a Dollar Store!! Really, really thin. When reported these issues to the Residence Inn on the survey following our visit, the General Manager sent us an inane, standard corporate response. He asked us to give the hotel another chance when we visit the area again. That's not likely to happen. Residence Inn isn't anything like it use to be. We feel cheated out of the Reward point we used for such a pitiful experience.
Check in was great, we got there a half hour before check in time and had no problems getting into our room. This made us very happy since we were in between a family wedding and the reception. All was well until the morning. First the shower situation, my husband jumped in and the water was not draining, so he basically took a bath and shower. He warned me as I attempted to take my shower, I couldn't adjust the water, the valve was truly messed up. Then I finally thought I had it right, but the water changed from ice cold to scolding hot every 20 seconds. Ugggggg. When I finally got done with my very short shower, I went to shut the water off, and the handle broke off in my hand. OOHHHH NOOOOOO!!!!! I yelled for my husband in a major panic thinking I was going to flood the hotel. After about 1 minute he was able to get the water shut off. The tub was completely full, it was close. I was glad we had only stayed one night, or they would have had to move us. I can laugh now, but I was really panicked at the moment, and disappointed with such a crappy shower that I had to take. We went down for break about 45 minutes before it was to end and the buffet was really wiped out. Again, really disappointed. I have stayed at numerous Residence Inns and have not had any problems, I would probably choose another hotel next time if I had to stay in that area.
We arrived at the hotel and check in was great. Super easy. However, when we entered the hallway it reeked of cigar smoke. Smelled like poker night. The room was ok but it had the smell of cigarette smoke in the closet. Nowhere else in the room, just the closet. Then it sounded like we had a herd of water buffalo above us. We could hear every step they took. We left the room and were out but late that night the people next store came back. We could hear their TV and talking as if they were in the room with us. To make it even worse, any sound in their bathroom was public knowledge. Singing in the shower, using the toilet, you name it. All in all very disappointing for a Marriott property.
Stayed here on a business trip. There are many, many brand new restaurants and shops nearby with a large supermarket across the street. Many restaurants within walking distance. Fairfield Inn is next door. Friendly staff and spacious room. Will definitely stay here again.
