Whether you’re a fan of food, culture, history or natural beauty, Vietnam has something for you. The country’s mouthwatering cuisine is one of the best in the world, while its historic towns and cities offer an excellent choice of historic sights, museums and cultural attractions.
Once you’ve had your fill of fantastic food and fascinating sights, spend a few days relaxing on Vietnam’s extensive coastline or travel to its mountainous interior for hiking, biking and adventure.
Vietnam stretches for over 1,000 miles from north to south. As a result, it’s not uncommon for one part of the country to experience tropical heat while another region is cold and frosty.
When booking your flights to Vietnam, think about the climate in the area you’re traveling to. Ho Chi Minh City is hot and humid throughout the year while Hanoi experiences cold winters and hot summers. In general, November to March are the driest months across the country while April to October make up the rainy season in Vietnam.
The busiest time to travel to and around Vietnam is during the Tet festival. This colorful New Year celebration takes place in late January or early February and sees millions of Vietnamese travel across the country to return to their families. As a result of the large number of people traveling, finding a cheap ticket to Vietnam can be more of a challenge.

If you’re not in a rush, book a seat on the train and see Vietnam’s beautiful countryside roll past your window. The country’s main train line connects Ho Chi Minh City with Hanoi and stops at a large number of small towns and cities on the way.
Vietnam is packed with vibrant cities, fascinating sights and beautiful natural attractions. Here are a few of the highlights.
Ho Chi Minh City
Incredibly busy and incredibly hot, Ho Chi Minh looks and feels like a megacity. A great destination for food, nightlife and shopping, the city is packed with museums and historic buildings many of which date from the French colonial era – if you love architecture it’s a great place to walk.
A (little) calmer than its cousin to the south, Hanoi has a beautiful historic center and some fantastic restaurants and museums. Take a stroll around the picturesque Hoan Kiem Lake, explore the Temple of Literature and pay a visit to Ho Chi Minh’s impressive mausoleum.
Hoi An is one of Vietnam’s most beautiful and atmospheric destinations. Right on the coast, its location allows you to spend your days soaking up the sun and your nights exploring the ancient town center.
Tickets for buses, planes and trains should be booked in advance, especially if you’re traveling around the Tet Festival. US travelers should apply for an E-visa online before traveling to Vietnam.
