Hotel was overall clean and had a great location right on the water. Room was very small, and had one queen bed which was hard. Food was extremely disappointing for an all inclusive. There was only one restaurant open, which was buffet only with basic buffet food. There were also other guests- some regular non AI guests, cruise ship packages, and others who had menus and quite good looking food brought out to their tables. We unfortunately did not have that package. We booked the regular room all inclusive. I wish that the other options were mentioned or that they provided adequate information for me to realize the package I booked was the poorest one. Maybe my review will help out the next traveler. Please don't book the basic room all inclusive unless you expect a small rooom with only buffet food. For comparison we have stayed at Fiesta Americana, Occidental, and Secrets on Cozumel and there is no comparison. All much superior resorts.

Excellent food (all inclusive), great fitness room, perfect location, excellent value

It is in a very beautiful location right near the water. You can just walk right out and snorkel. Most of the staff was friendly. However, service was hit or miss. The male at the front desk was a bit condescending both when I inquired about purchasing coffee for my room and upon checkout. During a lunch with myself and the party I was with, the server ignored us. Which I didn't understand as the restaurant there serves food all day. I walked up to the bar to get my own drink as ours had sat empty for a while. He noticed, he tried to tell me that he will bring me my beer, I told him no, I'm already up here I can bring it back. Well, I speak pretty decent Spanish, he walked up to the well to ask the bartender for the other drinks we had ordered. In Spanish he said, he needed two beers for the fat girls. The table I was with was the only table in the restaurant at the time. Tried to not let that put a damper on the trip. Besides some of the staff being rude, it is a nice place, the housekeepers were wonderful. However, I would not go back to this place a second time.

6th time to stay here! Always very fun. Relaxing vacation! Will be going back again!

I have stayed at this hotel many times. The staff is always wonderful, rooms are always clean. Great hotel beautiful place to stay for your vacation. The only down side is wifi is no longer free, they charge you $50.00 for 5 days and this only includes one device.

Cozumel is truly a small, sunny, and a cruise ship city! However, El Cid La Ceiba was a very nice hotel. My wife and I really enjoyed the all-inclusive package that came with food, alochol, room service and complimentary champagne to toast for our honeymoon! Usually, resort food is very washed down, but their seafood was fresh and we had no complaints about any meals. The hotel staff was friendly and made sure we had everything we needed on a daily basis. Don't expect Cozumel to be Cancun, the businesses in the city thrive off the cruise ships visiting each day for revenue. Otherwise, many local restaurants and shops would close down until the nest ship arrived. Cozumel does have a ferry that takes you to the island across the way called Playa De Carmen, which has better shopping plazas and more local businesses and people. We island skipped from Cozumel to Playa De Carmen to Cancun all in one day to enjoy the beautiful beaches of Cancun. Cheap cab and bus service the entire way! Beware of the airport promotion staff for activities, we recommend waiting until your arrive at your hotel to buy a activity package. Don't get caught up in thinking you HAVE to stop and talk to the airport promotion team for activities! Our trip was great and we spent an entire week there. They have a very small beach front and the ships block the entire ocean view but its not that bad. Safe hotel and reliable staff for whatever accomodations you need.

I have nothing but good things to say about the hotel and staff at this hotel. Food is great, staff are so nice and helpful, rooms are always clean, they have new chairs and umbrellas this year as well. My favorite hotel in Cozumel

We had a few mishaps but everyone was very helpful. Trip was too short so next time we will plan it longer.

Check was quick and smooth. Especially considering we arrived much earlier than the 3:00 check in time. Once in our room we quickly discovered that the view was great great and what we purchased, but the bed was not so great. So I left a review regarding that issue and was quickly responded to by management and moved to a different room. The move not so great, the room was at ground level but I purchased an ocean view for a reason. So instead of looking at the ocean I looked at a bunch of shrubs and beach huts, not an ocean view in my eyes. The room was very dated compared to our first room, the shower was very inconsistent and would suddenly put scolding hot water on you or freezing cold water, called the front desk they quickly sent a maintenance person over he came in checked it and said it was fixed mind you he was only in the room for a minute. Problem wasn’t fixed. I never complained any further we just sucked it up and went on with our stay. So as far as the staff they are fairly quick to help out but isn’t always a perfect outcome. The food was so so. The staff were pretty good as far as service, but all depends on who was waiting on you. Many times you would have to ask for something to drink or you would sit there unnoticed... Or ignored. Tip well and they’ll treat you like a king or queen.

There is nothin bad to say about this place. Rooms are very clean and comfortable. Food is very good and the staff is amazing. You never have to wait for anything.

being denied certain foods and drinks with our all-inclusive purchase. Being treated different because we didnt have a black vip bracalet! We"ve stayed at many resorts and the ONLY thing we've had to pay for is Lobster! Waiters, waitresses and house cleaning were awesome!!! The best!!!

I have stayed at many different hotels, both all-inclusive and non all-inclusive, in Cozumel over the past 15 years. We choose all-inclusive for this trip, which appears was not the best choice for El Cid. It appears they place more value on non all-inclusive visitors. We received great service from the room staff and most of the other staff. However, some service from a couple of people on the front desk, names forgotten, were questionable. Other items that lessoned an otherwise good experience are. 1. It was not communicated you could order from a menu for all-inclusive visitors and we thought we could only have the buffet. It took 2 days into the stay before we realized we could order from the menu. 2. We were asked to sign tabs for every order. However, this practice was very inconsistent and frustrating. 3. It was not clearly communicated, especially for alcoholic beverages, what items were inclusive and what items had upcharges. It was not until you checked out did you learn you had additional charges. 4. You had to pay for coffee in your room, even though there were no other places to get coffee before 7:00 am. 5. It felt like some staff treated you as a second class visitor because you were on the all-Inclusive plan. When I inquired about coffee for the room, the front desk attendant told me to go across the street and buy my own coffee. WOW what a remark. And, some bar attendants would serve other paying customer before us, even though we were ahead of them.
