The lobby, staff and room were all very nice; particularly the bathroom. All nice. The bed however was hard as a board. And not unlike a medieval torture device. No way I or my wife could rest on it. And there was no point in asking for another room as the hotel was full. So we checked out around 1:30 a.m. Nice looking place and very close to UVA. But when you're in your late 50s and have back, hip and knee problems, the English Inn might not be for you.

Beautiful lobby! Cozy fireplace and sitting area. Room was clean and warm. Reception greeted us warmly. Breakfast was more than the usual fare. A haven in the snowstorm! Lovely place. Would definitely stay there again.

This is our favorite hotel at which we've ever stayed. It was perfectly clean, smelled fresh, everything worked, quiet, great mattresses and pillows, good price, and we loved the cute and welcoming lobby in English manor decor with the tea and cookies every afternoon. If I had remembered my swimsuit, I would have enjoyed the heated pool. If we ever come to Charlottesville again, we will definitely stay here.

Everything was average to good except that the bathroom was not as big as the picture hinted at, the sink top was not as big as shown, and the bed was, if not the worst, was close to the worst bed I have ever slept on…including Marine Corps Boot Camp racks.

English not built for comfort

We were only there one night, and thankfully so. Our #1 criterion in judging a room is comfort of the bed and, the moment I sat down on ours, I knew it would be a sleepless night for my wife. Bed comfort can definitely be subjective but I have never sat down on the edge of a bed and had it not give in the least. The loveseat in the adjacent room, which we didn't realize we would be getting, seemed to be a relic of the 70s and you sank 3 inches upon sitting on it. At any price point, we won't be returning.

Excellent location for a reasonable price! We visited Shenandoah and it was nice having flexible food options nearby. Great room, very clean. Would of liked to be notified of housekeeping schedule on check in but the staff was accommodating

Was given key to the wrong room and walked into an already occupied room. Parking lot nearby had loiters and made guests feel uncomfortable walking from the car to the front of the hotel due to cars parking in the dark in the lot behind the hotel for only moments before pulling away. Door to room was excessively loud and hard to open. Hair dryer whispers. Shower is either a light sprinkle or a blasting hose. No safety lock on door, only dead bolt (likely due to it being an ada room but add an alt mechanism?
