Reading the few 1 star, or even non 5 star reviews is laughable. This hotel is amazing. From the service to the room, the pools and the food - it was perfect. I absolutely cannot wait to go back. In fact, my wife and I have a trip to Maui in 3 weeks after staying here that we wanted to cancel after being here for a day. We will be back!
Beautiful hotel which is run like a five star resort. Expensive but fulfills expectations. Housekeeping was excellent and service in general was very good. My only complaint is that as fabulous as the kid's room was we didn't realize it wasn't included so our $135 bill was a bit of a surprise. If you want old world class and elegance in San Diego stay here.
Beautiful rooms, incredible staff and delicious food. What more could one want- a Tranquility pool and walking paths. This property has it all. I really think the staff is what sets it apart. So polite and engaging but only if you want to talk. We look forward to a return visit. Thank you to everyone for making this a perfect 3 day break.
This feels like home away from home. Excellent rooms , most luxurious accommodations as far as taste and well built. Del Mar has great golf and nice fresh weather. I rate this resort one of the best in Southern California.
We stayed at Fairmont Grand Del Mar for 2 nights in the middle of July. As the locals (and whoever has ever had a privilege to travel to San Diego) say – “the best weather on the planet, throughout the day, 365 days a year. “ The sun is strong in the summer months, but a light breeze during the day keeps you from sweating. Make sure to bring a hat and a sun cream along, though! J From the first second we arrived on the enormous drive-way, we were politely greeted by the guard and asked for the room number. As soon as we arrived in front of the hotel entrance, (both I and my partner) were greeted by the bellboys by our last NAMES. That’s it – from this very moment, our stay was made. It can’t get any more personalised – what a high level of communication, what empathy skills… absolutely awesome! The same occurred the next day, when we returned from a daytrip to LA – the guard didn’t even ask for our room number any more, but just waved and said: “Welcome back!” The lobby is tastefully decorated with antique furniture – from tables to sofas and armchairs… There is a direct door, heading from the lobby to the balcony, overlooking the yards, the fountain/pool. Every room has a balcony (and the rooms, which are on the ground floor – have their own tiny yard with sunbeds). The entire front office team was very helpful, polite and kind throughout our stay (as they are the people, we were interacting and chitty-chatting the most). We were dining on the terrace at Amaya – had appetizers, perfectly grilled steaks, a bottle of red wine and even dessert on top of that lavish dining experience. The food is top class! An absolute delight and the service top-notch! As Universal Studios in LA is only a 2,5 hour drive away – we spent the entire next day there, arriving back at the hotel late in the evening and opted for room service, which was very prompt – food (pizza, dessert, pasta, beverages and bread selection) took only 20-min to arrive. And the food was delicious! The best room service food I’ve ever eaten. On the next morning we took a tour around the hotel grounds and probably without the area map would not been able to return (it’s just so huge!). We saw a swan by the lake; the horse stables; tennis courts; walked up and down the hills, where people are playing golf; passed by the enormous clubhouse and ended up on top of a beautiful hill, where there is a small waterfall, benches and you can just breathe in the fresh air and forget everything else. We loved each and every bit of our stay – the property is the most beautiful hotel I’ve every stayed at; the colleagues are by far the politest, friendliest and most knowledgeable employees I’ve ever engaged with and the biggest thank you goes to The Lead Concierge – Adhara Mereles for making out stay an unforgettable one with her incredibly fast assistance prior to our stay over emails and during our stay with her personal hand-written cards ad suprises. Thank you Team Fairmont Grand Del Mar – you are truly superstars!
I have visited this property twice over the years but only just stayed there this time. The property has 170 rooms and is exquisitely luxurious. From the second you enter the property to the tone you leave it is great. The interiors are gorgeous and the rooms are exceptionally well appointed. My girlfriend and I agreed it was all in the top of its five star luxury class. I played golf there and the course was very challenging and well maintained. The clubhouse is beautiful and the food was very good. They have a top shelf five diamond restaurant on the property that serves only 60 people per night. I've heard great things about the food. My only minor gripe was when we were at the bar in the lobby we were not served any nuts! But that's all. Overall exceptional stay!!
Stayed end of July for a friend's parents 50th anniversary party. Stayed in a Prado Suite- very nice sleeps up to 4 two very nice bathrooms and interior design and furnishings and bed. Pool (kid's pool was great as well) you will feel like you are in the Mediterranean without the travel and jet lag
Words cannot describe how out of this world special and luxurious this trip was. I was blown away by the stunning beauty and architecture to this resort. Every tiny detail, from the staircases, to the sconces on the walls, were just perfect. The views from all angles were perfectly designed. The grounds and the golf course were well though out. The large floral bouquet in the lobby. Where do I start? First off, the suite that I had, the Palazzo was massive, and we loved the Nespresso coffee machine. The views from the balcony were perfect to drink coffee in the morning. Bed was beyond luxurious and with the blackout curtains I slept quite late. The chocolate covered oreos with the evening turn down service, and the channel on the TV turned to the symphony. The bathroom, and the tub (with the Le Labo bath salts) were luxurious. Even the slippers were silky and soft. Tea service was outstanding and I am a tea afficionado. Tea was delicious along with the scones, sandwiches and dessert. Addison - that was an outstanding experience. We had the 10 course tasting menu and wine pairing. we were giggling with excitement. Amaya had lovely outdoor seating. We walked the grounds often - the chapel/ballroom was beautiful. The spa was beyond luxury and I loved the products and my Esthecian Jen was perfect at asking me what I wanted and checking in w me to make sure that everything was comfortable. they even gave you a heated robe at the end! They had delicious snacks and tea and Arlene from the gift shop offered us Prosecco! Arlene was so lovely. Jacuzzi, steam/sauna and showers were all so clean. I like the cucumbers and ice towels they placed as well. Most of all, service was wonderful everywhere. The adults only pool was heaven and we loved the Ahi Tuna Poke and the fish tacos. This was a lifetime memorable experience, and we were so so sad to leave.
The family, nine including 3 young grandchildren, spent a weekend at this well reviewed hotel and spa. The accommodations were top notch. Beautiful and sumptuous rooms, ample and lush grounds to walk, family pools, an adults only pool, and more. The service was spot on. The only reservation we had was that the food was merely adequate. (Not referring here to the Addison). It wasn't the quality of the food as much as the indifferent preparation. The fish tacos were left uneaten and a peanut butter and jelly sandwich had to go go back for want of nearly any PB & J. At this price point, that should not happen. Those quibbles aside, a great family vacation spot.
The Fairmont Grand Del Mar is everything! Elegance, class, and beauty in an absolutely stunning setting. You will never want to leave! The cuisine was divine, and the Spa was beyond fabulous! Our experience was unforgettable with memories to last a lifetime. Can't wait to return.
