My husband found this jewel through AAA. We were traveling to Destin FL from Tennessee & needed a place to spend the night on our way. This beautiful Victorian home was just perfect. We were greeted at the door & shown to The Rose Room. We were offered cookies and beverages from the fridge. Our hostess also gave us restaurant recommendations within walking distance. The entire home is absolutely beautiful! Attention to detail was amazing. We really enjoyed our breakfast at the lovely dining table with other guests. Pleasant conversation makes a meal so much more enjoyable. Overall a wonderful experience!
We stayed in the periwinkle room. Beautifully decorated home and delicious breakfast. Nice conversation during breakfast. We would stay again. It's a nice alternative to a hotel chain. We arrived during a storm and the front door was locked, but we called the number and we were directed over the phone how to access our room and accommodations.
If the purpose of your trip is to visit UAB, then this place is within a short distance from UAB. However, there is no attendant in place and when I arrived in the early afternoon it took me about 30 minutes to get the person to answer the phone posted in the door so she could instruct me on how to access the building and my room. In addition, breakfast is served too late (starts at 8:00 am) so if you have an early meeting you get a take away only.
If the The arrival instructions Had been sent say 24 hours before our arrival rather than a couple of hours before when we were in flight.... Eventually got in after spending 30 dollars on really unnecessary phonecalls.......not a good start.... Next day toilet flush failed to work....reported....came back after a day's sightseeing to find a yellow post-it note to say we were to move.....wait for it......not just rooms but property.......the whole reason of staying in one place for three nights is not to move! failed! Not good memories... Wouldn't go back
I reserved a room through hotels.com over a month before our arrival date. When we arrived at the Cobb Lane B&B around 5:45PM, Sheila had no record of our reservation and they were booked. There was an Elton John concert in town and there were no rooms in any hotel near UAB. She was very unconcerned. Said when you book through places like hotels.com, this can happen. Well then, don't list your property on "those places".
Recently stayed with my wife while we were in town for a concert. We had a wonderful experience. Mrs. Sheila was incredibly hospitable. Our room was very spacious. The breakfast the next morning was fantastic and she made sure everybody had enough coffee while she shared interesting stories about the lovely Victorian-era home and city. We will be staying again next time we are in town. Thank you so much for having us!
My wife and I just stayed two nights at this B&B. Today, I just read many of the reviews -- very interesting now that I've stayed at Cobb Lane. I would return, knowing the owner has clearly communicated guidelines and policies and follows them. It met our expectations, the location was great for us (access to St Vincent's Hospital), room was comfortable, fellow guests polite and engaging, and breakfast was good. The owner has a unique decorating style and personality -- which we embraced.
Wow. We entered the bed and breakfast and we go back in time to 1890's Birmingham in grand detail. The attention the detail is breathtaking yet all the modern conveniences. Breakfast was super and elegant.
Two days before arriving in Birmingham we received an email that the structure canceled our reservation as they are hosting a wedding in the day of our stay. This is obviously a problem for us to be solved while abroad.
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at the historic Cobb Lane B & B. Sheila is a delightful host and attended expertly to every detail. The decor and ambiance of the property is sure to please any history lover or those who appreciate historical architecture. We also really enjoyed meeting several other guests at breakfast, which included a wonderful, inspiring conversation and meal. The neighborhood is notably worth exploring - with many restaurants, pubs, shops, and local fare. We had a great dinner at a local BBQ (recommended by Sheila) and followed our dinner with drinks and trivia at Brennan's Irish Pub. It was a fun, one-night visit to Birmingham for us, and we would recommend the Cobb Lane Bed and Breakfast for those looking for a unique place to stay.
