We stayed in June at Retrome Barcelona. The room was specially designed to the 70's. The small details were amazing. The lamps, pictures, a real turentable that plays. And a new shawer and smart television. The Metro is two steps from the hotel and the neighborhood is quiet and nice. We had a grate breakfast buffe.
Retrome is within walking distance to tourist destinations, such as Casa Mila, but is not on a busy street. Our room also came with a nice patio area and the internet is great. The crowning glory of this hotel is its service: reception was happy to help us book train tickets and were very pleasant during check-in. However, this hotel needs some updating and is very expensive for what you receive. You're paying for the location; better to stay a few blocks further from the sites, pay less, and take the superb mass transit system.
I stayed in for two nights this week hence my review is based on such time span. PROS: great location - busy area and at walking distance from most popular areas. Cozy ambient, amicable, relaxing, and house-like. It is an apartment not a hotel room but it still counts with most things you may need. Internet worked well. Service (reception) - the young blonde gal during check-in was very kind, friendly and quite helpful. The red-hair guy the next day was also fantastic (plus absolutely good looking, I could not concentrate at all). CONS: list of credit cards accepted should be listed since the city welcomes people worldwide (Amex is not accepted and despite it is something common in the city; it was certainly unexpected for a hotel). Cleaning could be improved - it was not awful but I would suggest improvement. The reception is completely separated from the building and do not work 24/7 not that I am complaining but I could not speak with anyone when the neighbors were to noisy. It was not the end of the world but they might want to consider it for the future. Pricey compared to hotels in the area with all services. Honestly, the place has much potential and I would definitely recommend it noting the aforementioned aspects.
I visit Retrome Barcelona with my friends for the second time last week. We had a wonderful stay and enjoyed the lovely, clean and spacious room, the friendly and helpful staff, the great location and the relaxing and great retro style atmosphere of the hotel. Also we had a great service with our late check in. This year the breakfast was new. Very nice to have that opportunity. Maybe some more fruit and egg varieties would be great. I recommend Retrome to everyone who wants to explore Barcelona in style.
Excellent little collection of apartments, with a hotel-style reception, in the Eixample district and only a few blocks from the Sagrada Familia, with a Metro station on the corner. We had a quiet apartment (as requested) with a small balcony looking south and overlooking the quiet square with garden and school playground below - better than overlooking the street, we thought. The apartment was perfect for us with a small lounge area and kitchenette, a decent-sized shower-room, and a good bedroom with a super-comfortable and big visco-elastic mattress which gave us the best night's sleep imaginable. Nice and slightly quirky decor too, and good wifi reception (included in the price). The terrace was small but had a little round table and three chairs and was good for breakfast - there's a bakery downstairs on the street-corner. We'd have struggled to cook more ambitious meals there, with a kettle and coffee machine and not much more, but wanted to eat out at lunch and in the evenings anyway so for us it was fine. The staff are really friendly and helpful and are there till 9.00pm every night. All in all, good value, in a good location, and somewhere we're very happy to recommend to others.
Great place to stay in Barcelona. Clean rooms, very comfortable bad. Excellent position, next to the metro station and other attractions. The staff was kind and helpful, the new bar is beautiful and breakfast is reach.
The staff are helpful and very welcoming, they made us coffee and tea on arrival and explained how the hotel worked. Our room was clean, stylish and functional with a balcony, tea and coffee making facilities and a fantastic shower. The receptionist also gave us great advice on seeing the sights and the best places to eat. Breakfast if you want it, is across the street at a local cafe, or you can do your own thing. The staff also know good authentic restaurants close by for your evening meal. If we go back to Barcelona this will be our hotel of choice
I chose this hotel based on its excellent reviews but be warned. I'll begin with the fact that it is NOT a hotel. There is no staff available 24/7.. I learned this the hard way. I confirmed with hotel staff I could check in early since there was availability. When I arrived, I found a locked street door with a small sign. No phone number to call or anything. Not knowing what to do I called my booking agent who said no one will be in til 3pm. So I paid to check in to another hotel. Expensive and frustrating miscommunication. They need to put office hours on their website. The "hotel" is VERY minimal. The room is small with no where to really put anything. No dressers, closets, clock, or fridge (as promised). If you weigh more than 100lbs good luck getting on to the terrace. They only clean if requested. The room was linked with the lobby or what I call the living room. You can hear every conversation and every door closing. Although the bed was comfortable I did not get a solid nights sleep. In addition, when reporting issues the hotel staff was defensive and less than pleasant to work with. Instead of listening to my suggestions (like having an additional bath towel) they defended the hotel saying that's how it is here. I tried to switch my hotel but was unsuccessful. This room would be fine for a night or two but not a week and certainly not more than 1 to 2 people. I am not quick to write a negative review but this was a negative experience and I feel as though others thinking about booking should know. Positives: location, rainfall shower, clean rooms
A friend of mine and me found the nice hotel on the internet. The booking was really easy through email and we got a perfect description how to arrive by metro. The room was very clean and in a very hip design- we also had a nice balcony. We really enjoyed the stay and felt like home- there is a very nice lobby with s big table, a fridge for your own things and a coffe machine. The stay was super relaxing- highly recommandated.
We had a suite with a balcony overlooking a garden-filled courtyard. We stayed five nights, including Christmas. I had my morning coffee on the balcony every day and enjoyed the stillness of the place in a bustling city. Our suite was on the small side but had a main bedroom and second room that was part bedroom-part kitchenette-and entryway to the balcony. No couch or sofa and only a small table with two chairs but that was fine with us. The kitchenette had all the essentials: a sink, espresso maker, corkscrew, mini-refrigerator, and microwave. The beds were comfortable and the hot water plentiful. The bathroom had a nice tub and shower, shelves and wide sink. There was a food store across the street and a subway station and bakery just down the street. This was the nicest hotel I've ever stayed at. Why? The peaceful balcony, the comfortable feeling of the suite, the convenience to the location and easy access to the Metro.
