In two weeks in southern France and Catalonia, this was our favorite hotel by far. Great location, great rooftop pool, very clean and modern rooms, and extremely comfortable beds.

Located on Las Ramblas, Hotel 1898 is incredibly centrally located. We walked to almost every major attraction in the city because the of the hotel's premier location. And even though you are situated on the busy Ramblas, the noise level was rarely ever an issue when we found ourselves napping midday or sleeping late at night. The hotel staff were amiable, organized, and truly went above and beyond to accommodate us. Every day, the concierge would print our online tickets for whatever venue we booked the night before, and sometimes they even brought them up to our room minutes after we sent them an email!! The cleaning staff were impeccable. The rooms were cleaned thoroughly and truly made us feel warm and cozy each time we came back to the room. And on the rare occasion that we came back at an awkward time missed our room being serviced, the front desk or the cleaning staff themselves would make it a point to service our room later on, even if it was in the evening when we went back out again -- service we've never experienced before :)

Wonderful rooftop terrace. Great view of Barcelona. Good breakfast. Impeccable service. Restaurant provided great meals of good value. Had an enjoyable stay.

great location, very helpful staff, close to main Metro station, within walking distance of most major attractions, many nice restaurants nearby, room was large, very comfortable- a great place to stay. would definitly stay here again.

This Hotel is located in the center of Las Ramblas. A short distance walk to many of the nearby hotspots. Our stay in this Hotel was superb. The Hotel itself is very elegant and the rooms are clean. The staff is eager to help and will do the best that they can to accommodate their customers. Even though it is rated 4 stars you feel like you are staying in a 5 star hotel. The indoor pool and spa is excellent for relaxation. If we ever return to Barcelona we will not consider staying anywhere else.

This was a very nice hotel in a great location. It was close to many restaurants/cafes and there was a music festival in the plaza within easy walking distance. The room was very nice with great staff service. The beach is within walking distance for those who want to walk - or it is easy to catch a cab and get to the beaches. Les Rambles was a beautiful location with a wide walking area between the two lanes of traffic.

The Hotel 1898 is very elegant, yet modern. It is in the best location in Barcelona, right on La Rambla. The rooftop bar and tapas is lovely. The only downsides were a very small room and that half of the rooftop bar was usually reserved for private groups- so hard to get a spot.

We stayed 6 nights in Barcelona and never regretted having chosen 1898 Hotel Barcelona. Everything was modern and clean. The room was a good size, the bathroom functional (unlike many other European hotels similarly priced), but the best part was coming back to the rooftop pool and bar at the end of each (hot) day. Only complaint at all was weak wi-fi in the room, which was often spotty.

Beautiful hotel with a great rooftop pool.. best rooftop bar in Barca.. the most amazing beds I have ever slept in any hotel!

stayed in this hotel 4 nights-very good location, comfortable rooms....Fantasticall restaurant on the 1-sf floor thanks a lot

The hotel is located in a perfect location, right on Les Rambles. You can walk to most of the main attractions or take a bus. The hotel has two pools, the outdoor pool on the 7th floor overlooks Barcelona. Gorgeous views. Recommend getting a chair early as there aren't very many. There is also a great bar (pricey) up by the pool. Check in/check out was very fast. Only complaint would be the AC did not seem to work all the time.

Beautiful hotel right in the heart of La Rambla, close to Metro. Spectacular subterranean pool, clean, comfortable room, excellent staff. Drinks and restaurants are pricey though.

Fantastic hotel in prime location, right on La Rambla. Excellent area for shopping, dining and sightseeing. Great staff, comfortable rooms, and afternoon tea!

Nice place that is close to shopping and easy walking distance to sites.

The hotel is beautiful and provides for every comfort. The entire staff was friendly and helpful. Its location was perfect. Would highly recommend it to anyone.

1898 Hotel Barcelona was perfectly located for everything we wanted to do while in Barcelona for five days. Given its place between Liceu and Catalunya Metro stations, my wife and I moved easily to the amazing museums, Gaudi casas, church and park, opera and concert halls, and other important sights. We found excellent, reasonably priced restaurants within comfortable walking distances (15 minutes), with the assistance of computer websites and local maps. The Boqueria market was a short stroll away and we had delightfully tasty breakfasts in our room every morning after picking out fresh fruit, cheese and croissants at the stalls. The hotel itself was spotless, pretty, comfortable and quiet despite the outside noise from La Ramblas. The well equipped , complimentary business center allowed for emails back home and any research we needed to do, as well as printing out air tickets in advance. In short, 1898 Hotel Barcelona is a terrific place to stay.

My wife and I have been blessed to do a fair amount of traveling in the US and abroad. We have stayed at some exceptional hotels, but the experience we had staying at the H1898 in Barcelona tops them all. This is a true gem, run in a manner that makes guests feel like royalty. When we return once again to Barcelona, we will stay at the H1898. We give this hotel the highest recommendation possible.

Hotel 1898 was charming, beautiful, and located perfectly for our purposes (couple on first-time trip to Barcelona). It's on La Rambla 200 metres from Placa Catalunya, 10 minutes walk to the heart of the Barri Gotica. Obviously, it's an very busy area with no end of activity. We had a "classic" room on an interior courtyard. We would have upgraded had it not been such a busy season--prices were astronomical all over Barcelona. More light would have been welcome. The couryard also funneled music at all hours--sometimes karaoke, sometimes technopop--apparently from the rooftop bar. Not sure what the noise situation would be facing the streets. Decor was very stylish, the bed was large and comfortable, and the bathroom, while a bit tight, was well-organized and functional. The staff was outstanding. Front-desk staff very welcoming; housekeeping and maintenance very accommodating. No official concierge, but the desk staff--Jaime in particular--put real effort and expertise into advising on sights and picking out restaurants. We had dinner on the rooftop (so-so selection of tapas) and breakfast (high-priced but overwhelming amount of excellent food). Beautiful views. We'd go back, but we'd spring for a superior room facing a street next time.

We stayed at Hotel 1898 on a Saturday before a cruise and a Sunday after the cruise. My wife and I agreed that it was the nicest hotel we've ever stayed in. The rooms were large, beautiful, and had amazing bathrooms. The staff spoke great English and the location can't be beat. The only negatives were some noise issues. In our first room, there was a strange creaking that repeated off and on consistently. The second room had a great view of Las Ramblas, but we could hear (and feel) the metro go by underground even though we were on the 3rd floor. Neither of those things kept us up, but at an expensive hotel those shouldn't happen.

Awesome hotel with a fantastic location in the center of everything. However, with the rooftop pool/bar/lounge area combined with the basement pool/spa it's hard to leave the hotel to go enjoy everything Barcelona has!
