Room (studio unit) was comfortable and adequately provisioned (cookware and crockery). Otherwise, if you want to feel like a pre-convicted criminal, this is the place to create the ambience. Start with the $100 bond that you will only get back as a credit to your (international) card in 7-10 days, and then only after an inventory of the items they think should be in your room has been taken. Next, consider $10 for a gig of wifi, supposedly. When I used it to upload a few pictures, it ran out in something like a nanosecond, unlike anywhere else in New Zealand where I had stayed previously (in the five-week holiday I'd been on to date), and in those places generally with an allocation of only 250 mb. Finally, after staying here for two nights, I needed a place close to Devonport to stay the night before our departure. This place qualified, and I figured I was now prepared for their customer-friendly style. When I made the booking, for the same accommodation, it was $30 more (because it was a busy weekend - on a Sunday), and it was non-refundable in case of a cancellation. What a place!
Booked a standard cabin - on their website is says that this includes a bathroom. Do not be fooled by the photo attached to the description of Standard Cabin - you have to use shared facilities. You also have to pay for a shower! $1 for 9 minutes, and it takes over a minute for the hot water to come through. The shower block and toilets are not clean, and have broken tiles on the floors, mould in the corners and ants were up the walls in the toilets. Check in was a disaster. I queried the room and then got yelled at by a very rude man behind the counter. He would not listen just talked right over the top of me. He told me I had to pay a $100 bond and that it was in my email confirmation. I checked it was not. If I paid it on credit/debit card it would take 3-4 days for the money to go back into my account. I only found that out from a sign, they did not tell me this. I begrudgingly paid by cash and was given a tiny piece of paper and was told if I lost it, they would keep my $100 cash. Got to the room and it was wooden bunk with a double on the bottom, single on the top and it was hard and damned uncomfortable. The room smelt and was not worth $95! It was tiny. It took nearly 20 minutes to process check out the next morning as they physically check your room, before giving you back the $100. I would never recommend this place to anyone, ever! Other reviews on here for those staying in the motel section seem to have had similar experiences to ours, so this is not an isolated incident. Protect yourself and stay away from this place.
I stayed with my friends The Notorious 9 and had a blast. The staff would wave to us when coming home from the strippies at 5am, very friendly. The room was warm and humid, very comfortable. The showers and toilets block could not have been better. Plenty of aromas and colour. We had a blast with the residents that visited us on a regular basis. I Highly recommend this accommodation, it was the closest I have been to phuket with palm trees lining the small streets with the camping ground. I would also like to mention the pet eels in the creek when you drive in. How much fun feeding them did we have! What other accommodation have pet eels... none
We had a 'deluxe' cabin which came with a toilet but had to pay for showers - $1 each for a 9 min shower. It seemed that everything about this place was how they could squeeze an extra $$ out of the guests - a tad embarrassing considering how many overseas travelers were using it! The $100 bond is ridiculous, considering I had to pay for the room in advance and had used a credit card to so - it is very off putting. The staff were polite on check in though and the bathrooms were clean. The children enjoyed staying there and enjoyed using the (very small) pool and trampoline.
Having spent the day in Auckland itself was looking for a campervan site and not a lot to choose, looked at these reviews and didn't expect good things ! Actually I was impressed - everything was working, clean and effective. not much space but you can't expect a lot o in a built up area. Kitchen worked well. You have to pay extra for showers but they do that to keep up front cost down @ $30 was cheaper than other places I tried. All in all - ok and will go bsck
We choose it so can't complain Basic room is just that, very small but had a fridge and sink with some dishes, kettle etc. Easy walk to shops but not much else. Would try higher levels of accommodation if doing it again. Suggest you also look at Takapuna Beach as this is a far better area for things to do in walking distance
Stay away from this place...I booked in with my family and arrived before them. I checked in and was told I had to pre pay for showers!! So i ordered 2! I put my bag in my room and the room was disgusting, Chernobyl would be more inviting but we were there for the kids so I can deal with that. The I got a call telling me that my kid was in a serious accident (all good now) but at the time I panicked, I had to check out immediately and they refused a refund. That's bad enough customer service because we planned on going back with another family at a later stage so that's terrible for business...I didn't have time to argue so I went to the hospital. After a few emails which they ignored I emailed Booking.com who got through to them. The hellhole of a motel wanted proof of my kid's accident to get 80% of my payment back. I was fuming, such a sadistic, insensitive, inhumane to run a business. I couldnt imagine how they would be if a child was injured in their terrible park. Overall a terrible experience but I imagine that it would have been much worse if I stayed.
This is by far the worst place I have ever stayed before. After 35 hours of flying, we checked in and just wanted to sleep. No tv, light bulbs and very little bedding provided. The staff wanted a €100 bond before we checked in, heard of this before? Apparently this was a deposit which is refundable the following day. We went along and handed €100 bond over because we just wanted to sleep. The following day, we were accused of breaking the tv and wouldn't get our €100 back. The tv was broken as we entered the room, this is a scam which happens to everyone here. After possible police involvement we had our bond back. Would rather stay in a pig shed than this place, a definite would not recommend.
I absolutely agree with his comments re the Hibiscus Pam Motel. We booked ourselves in there though it was rather late and it was the only room left. In front of us was couple who had looked at the second to last room and just come back in while we were waiting and said he would take it. We felt if it was good enough for him, it must be good as he was dressed very tidy and had quite a flash car too. So down to the last unit we go. Unpacked the car and went in to settle down for the night... no TV... no light in the lamp by the bed... draws beside bed falling to bits, then I went to the bathroom... well what a stinkin mouldy hole. The Health Department needs to step in here and send their Health Inspectors to check out what I am saying. All night I had this horrible smell irritating my nose, by morning we realised it was the mould from out the unit and sticken stale smoke smell. We will never be back. Photos attached to prove I am not making this up. Very very over priced Orewa Motel down grading such a beautiful area.
We were in a motorhome so we only used the facilities there. Spacious and very clean kitchen with 6 cooktops.l Showers and toilets - spotless. I liked the thought of putting towels by kitchen sinks and wash basins for wiping down as I hate wet bench tops. Campgrounds were well presented and reception staff friendly and helpful.
