Looks nothing like the rooms shown in the gallery. Springs coming through mattress and television coming off the wall. Bathroom power point off the wall with exposed wires. No heating or electric blanket and was a freezing night. Would never recommend staying here.
Everything in the hotel, from reception to bedrooms looks old and tired and requiring URGENT deep cleaning and repairs. Doors, walls, furniture full of stains and marks. Smelly carpet in the bedroom and full of dust. No pressure in the shower due to leakage. Checked the menu to have dinner at the restaurant but everything looked so dirty (menu, tables, chairs, curtains....) that decided to go outside. 1 night if no other option (not that many there....) is enough. Positive: Close to airport, shuttle for free, bed sheets clean. Staff polite.
If I could give this hotel a rating of -100, that would be generous. This is exactly what happened to us. I initially made a mistake with my booking dates which I put for March instead of February. I contacted the booking agent (Booking.com) and the hotel direct and the matter was sorted out and I was sent a confirmation that all was fine and dandy. That was a month before we arrived. So, after virtually 24 hours flying we arrived at the hotel at around 1.00/1.30 a.m. My husband who is almost 70 and who has Crohn's disease and myself, recuperating from breast surgery, were absolutely shaking with exhaustion. We proceeded to book in and I took the precaution of once more mentioning the erroneous booking for March and seeking the manager's confirmation that that had definitely been cancelled, since I didn't want a 'no-show' charge against us in March. He assured me all was fine and showed us to our room. Not five minutes later he knocked on the door and said actually our booking was for March, contrary to what he had just told us. I also presented him with the amended booking form for February, but he wouldn't budge. Then he began insisting that the room we were in was reserved for someone else - a likely story at 2.00 a.m. in the morning - and that we couldn't stay. Well, here we were in a country we'd never been to before, so jet lagged we could hardly move, but that was not a consideration for Mr Shifty-as-Hell. I asked him then if he could ring around some other hotels and he PRETENDED to do so, but it seems that in the whole of Auckland that night not a room could be found. Oh, but wait, suddenly he found one - a short drive away - and he took us there (although I was smelling a huge rat by this stage, but sadly we were in his power, so to speak). I suspect he was receiving a financial kick-back from this other motel owner. We had no option but to shell out NZ$178 for one night to stay in that place, although by now it was knocking on 3.00 a.m. and we had to be out at 10.00 a.m. the next morning. Never before have I come across such dodgy dealings and such shady practices. There was no reason for his behaviour towards us - we had not been disruptive in any way - all we wanted to do was to put our heads down and get some rest. I urge anyone thinking of booking in here to think again. There are many other hotels in the area where you would be better off. I wasn't impressed with what we did see of the place anyway. It looked shabby and none too clean and the bedroom carpet looked pretty disgusting. But most of all, I would avoid because of the lies and contempt with which these people seem to treat their customers. There is a reason they have so many negative 'terrible' reviews. Take heed and don't end up like us.
Our group of 8 stayed here for one night prior to flying home to the US. The rooms were adequate is size although poorly appointed. No hand towels, no tissues, thin towels. Cheap. Although expensive for what you got. We're told shuttle to airport would pick us up only to find it only ran at certain times. When 2 of us had scheduled it for the next morning, the morning staff knew nothing about it and we had to wait 45 min after being ready at 5:30 am. One of us had no A.C. Do not recommend.
beds were comfy and the unit we were in was well laid out , rooms did need a bit of repairs as there was obvious water damage from shower leaking , we had a room at the front and it was bad luck that the night we stayed there there was major road works happening right out side our windows so got little sleep from that
It was nice and tidy room. It's very close to Airport, Also Anytime available airport pick up service. But I think of a little shortage of breakfast menu. Very nice and kind staff especially thank you Sharin& Harsh.
It is a close to the airport, spacious rooms and quite in the night. The courtesy van can pick and drop from and at the airport. Free water purifier located in the lobby. It is a bit messy because of road construction but it will go away when it's done.
It is great place to stay, it's very near to Auckland Airport. Very friendly people and good service. And also Sharin wgo is manager onsite is so kind and very helpful person. Have fun staying at Airport Gateway Hotel.
We always stay here when we are going away overseas. The rooms are always clean and tidy with a real comfortable bed and good bathroom facilities. They store our car for us,and take us and pick us up from the airport. No hassles. Great service. The staff are always friendly and helpful. Definitely recommend this hotel for a stop over when going away. Thanks guys.
I booked through booking.com and have never encountered this situation before. We rang the hotel to confirm that we were arriving late. No problem because they have a 24hr reception/check in. When we arrived after 10pm, made even more tired because of roadworks and detours made it difficult to even get there, the staff took me to another hotel, not even explaining where we were walking to. When I asked what was happening he advised that due to roadworks I had been transferred to a quieter hotel and room. Sounded reasonable except the next day (a) they still had guests and (b) they had actually overbooked. You either pay in advance with no refunds, or they have your Hotels credit cards and can charge for no-shows. This hotel overbooking have greedy managers who care first about the money, than the customers experience. If choice wasn't important and a random hotel acceptable, then I wouldn't mind this happening. But, I took the time to consider the options that led me to 'select' this hotel. I won't be selecting this hotel again and have contacted Booking.com to confirm my rights when I book through them. My learning for the future, confirm you have a room and don't just assume. Sounds stupid and undermines the point of booking in advancd, but hey, look what happened to me.
