I was a little worried when I booked this accom. I hadn't read the reviews before I booked on faith/ price. When I did read through them I was some what nervous about staying, based on other people's opinion. I'm glad I ignored them all. After a long flight back from Hawaii, we arrived later than anticipated - to be met by the most loveliest, friendly man on reception. From the outside, its true it looks a little rough, but inside very quiet, clean & perfect to rest up. We checked out early to return to the airport, everything ran smoothly. Everyone's experience's are different, enjoyed the stay.
5 stars Sonia, one of the desk attendant. 2 stars the hotel itself. Room old painted, dirty, spaces not cleaned properly, old facilities. The second lady we met at the reception, who checked us in, forgot to give us the free yellow bus ticket: it turned to be a delay issue for all the bus passengers the early morning after as the driver didn't want to leave the hotel hub without tickets, and the reception is not running 24 hrs. We had to wait until someone appeared into the reception with our receipt as the yellow bus even if offered by the hotel, is a separated company. Sonia is the only pro of our experience, fixing our booking date mistake without hesitation. For 130$ a night, you can easily find something better even for a simple stopover.
If this motel is the first experience tourists have in NZ there is no hope. Stayed here for one night before leaving NZ and retuning. Even tried to change hotels whilst on holiday. This place is so run down, only 3 channels in tv if you can get them. Our room was hot when we entered with heaters running, realised it was because they were trying to dry wet carpet. Had to sit in lobby next morning and listen to guests complain to desk about problems with their room. Never again!
The accommodation was average and comfortable enough for an overnight stay near the airport. The only downside was the `Airport Transfer' turned out to be a large bus that went to every other hotel around the area and took 40 minutes to get to the airport. Previous places we have stayed had a van that they ran you to the airport in only a few minutes, so we didn't realise this would be different. We would have taken a taxi had we realised.
As our flight had just been cancelled and rental cars returned, we needed a place to stay for the night. 4 adults and 3 excited children. Very easy and quick to book and having 3 bedrooms so we could all stay together was a bonus. Catch the yellow bus they said...rain pouring down made it fun waiting for the yellow bus...no that's orange not yellow we kept telling the children as they splashed in the puddles. The lady at check in was hard to get a smile out of but the lady when we checked out the next morning was lovely. Also when I left my phone charging in the room as we madly leaped onto the yellow bus, she went to great lengths to wrap it up and pop it on the next yellow bus as it did it's rather tedious loop to each and every hotel. We investigated the restaurant, very dated. No ice in the whole place. A spa would be nice we thought...no it's not being used now and neither is the pool...good to know... The shower was great! lots of things in the room had been renovated. Modern kitchen facilities too. Great splash back colour. The beds did have springs digging into our backs..a foam mattress topper wouldn't go a stray. Sheets were nice and crisp and fresh. Our 4th adult slept on the couch squabs....he might have got the better deal. Lucky my partner is an electrician and had some tools, as the power point in the kitchen was loose and hanging off the wall..so out came a screw driver...all fixed. The traffic noises start early in the morning. As the hotel is away from supermarket/shops we got an Uber to Countdown for wine and supplies..very quick and cheap and no need to wait for the "yellow bus"
Don’t expect 4 star but for the price it was fine. Getting from airport was easy (go out of door six, find the big yellow bus stop and show the driver your booking and it will be free and drops off at the door). The checkin was efficient both key and breakfast voucher were ready. The room, bathroom and bedding was clean (carpet was stained in one place but clean of loose stuff). It needs some of the woodwork replacing. My room had 3 singles in it and there were extra blankets n pillows in cupboard. Enough coffee/tea bags and cups. Bathroom bits were fine and water nice n hot. Only problem was Wi-fi wasn’t working nor was the Sky when I arrived or left. Breakfast was an eat/drink all you like but very bland. Filled a hole though. Checkout was efficient too. Didn’t need transport back to airport but they asked.
We stayed here for 6 hours after a flight from Samoa. Overall it was ok, the beds were clean as was the bathroom. The big problems are the horrible smell of smoke the is VERY WHERE and the disgustingly dirty carpet.
We did not enjoy our stay here AT ALL. This hotel had the worst bed we have ever tried to sleep on. It felt like we were sleeping directly on the springs and my husband has the spring marks to prove it (see photo). They definitely need to replace these old beds or at least put a mattress topper on them! The welcome reception was not very friendly and we felt like we were an inconvenience when checking in. The pool was dirty and certainly did not entice one to want to have a swim. I would suggest if you are looking for an overnighter stay at the Novotel which is in the airport precinct and you won't have to subject yourself to the yellow bus transfer the Hotel offers.
If you have ever seen the movie Psycho 1960 American movie that gives you an idea of what this motel was like. That was the first thing that went through our minds as we made our way through a rabbit warren of narrow corridors to a depressing room, very shabby. We had a delayed flight so arrived at AKL 11pm so did not have much choice as to where to stay, were charged $150 NZD , iI would suggest the most you would want to pay for a place like this is $80. The whole place is shabby, down pipes on the roof hanging off, swimming pool filthy. I must say the room was clean and bed and sheets good.
Last minute booking to avoid an early morning. The room was clean but shabby. Bed was clean but the bedspread wasn't. The whole complex was in the middle of a renovation and it really was needed. The free continental breakfast was a big let down, weetbix, dregs of muesli, instant coffee.
