Paid for an executive suite and breakfast, was expecting standard hotel fair and service but sorely disappointed. This place is essentially a run down motel. The room was reasonable although dated and not particularly clean. The bathroom has been updated but the shower went cold in the morning??? Do not bother with breakfast at the "restaurant". Ironically we joked about a breakfast with no bacon, turned out it was worse than we thought. No cooked food of any sort, but a couple of toasters and some plastic storage containers with some canned fruit and some unappealing looking cereal. The restaurant is extremely dated and was dark, dingy and unwelcoming. Outside it looks as if they have started some construction but have given up. There was trash blowing around and broken bottles in the unswept car park. The whole place is gross and I'm surprised they have been able to stay in the VR hotel chain. Turns out there is a backpackers down the road that is cheaper and looks a lot nicer.
Close to airport, offer a free shuttle service but make sure you let them know when you are booking that you require a pick up. We had a family room, two bedroom apartment, although old our rooms were very clean, the beds were great especially after a long flight and the shower superb. It is old but if you just need a place to crash in before or after your connecting flight it worked for us. Did not eat there so can not comment on food. There was some roadworks going on out the front but did not really impact on us.
The place is showing its age but it is clean with Good size rooms, great shower, good beds, helpful and friendly staff and cheap for the aria they provide free airport shuttle including pickup. Just don’t eat there.
They picked us up in minutes from the airport, i couldn't believe that we could get such great accomodation for the price. immaculate, convenient location. wonderful helpfull staff ( even the cleaners . the MOST comfortable bed I have ever slept in. Given its location amazingly quiet,
I really wish to write something good here, as I'm a generally positive person, so let's start with that 1 very kind receptionist (older man) who was the only helpful staff member and the fact that the room itself looked quite good and had a comfortable bed. The rest unfortunately... not so great. I really wished I looked at TripAdvisor before as there's more bad reviews than good ones. First of all, it's very expensive. Paid about 133 euro's (about 230 NZ dollars) a night for ONE PERSON, which is what I paid in the past for 4-5* properties. AND paid for a night before as well, so I could check in early and sleep after 45 hours of traveling... as you must know: check-in is very late at 2PM whereas check-out at 10AM, which is quite some cleaning time (I managed a hotel before, in 2 hours 149 rooms were cleaned). I was expecting some kind of Marriott, but instead on the outside it looked like a motel were people go to cheat. For this money you expect decent internet right. You wish! You get 12 hours, even though your stay is longer than that, and you can't use more than 300mb. And only on 1 device! So if you use it for your phone you can't have internet on your laptop. As the reception didn't tell me anything I didn't know I have to 'turn it off' when not in use, so that time ran out quickly as I slept most of those hours... and then you have to BUY the extra internet... I mean, seriously? I had to make a scene before they gave me an extra complimentary one, but with this limited data I couldn't even upload a document so I couldn't work at all. So I wonder why they put a desk in the room. Staff members were notoriously unhelpful. My boyfriend booked this room for me and had many troubles with confirming the payment, and even though his credit card was charged a 100% they told them the payment never arrived. They also told him there wouldn't be a free shuttle to pick me up and I should order a cab. In the end I DID get the shuttle when I borrowed someone's phone to call (yeah they expect you to call them upon arrival, even though you're a foreigner and don't have a local simcard immediately - if not they don't pick you up), although they arrived 15 minutes late. I got zero explanation with check-in, just the key and that's it. Breakfast is included. But to be frank with you, I had better breakfasts in 5-dollars-a-night-hostels. It's literally these plastic bags of factory bread with plastic cups of sugary marmalade and some cheap cornflakes. Drinks? Coffee which isn't coffee but Nescafe and orange juice which isn't orange juice but syrup. I mean, really, for 133 euro's a night? This is where the saving policy in hotel management goes seriously wrong. Luckily I didn't eat at the restaurant, but I used the vending machine for some sodas and even that thing ripped me off and didn't give me back my change. In short, don't waste your money here, use that same money to book a nice air bnb. For a week.
We arrived very late to Auckland and needed somewhere for 4 adults. Whilst the gates were shut so we had to park our car on the street, that was really the only criticism. Rooms were spacious and clean - we had a two bedroom suite. There is a small pool and restaurant and staff were polite and helpful but not overbearing. The price was excellent and Id recommend this motel to those who need a place close to the airport with a speedy shuttle service.
Don’t stay here. Expensive rooms which are dirty, poorly maintained, rude reception staff, dirty linen, mould in bathroom, PowerPoints hanging loose, only get 1 roll of toilet paper every 2 days for 4 people. If they treat people in the ‘executive suit’ this bad - I’d hate to see the cheaper rooms. Whatever you do - stay away from the pool and spa.
Booked a room via phone with Gateway Hotel Auckland after seeing the photos of the room which looked clean, tidy and well cared for, stated to have spa, spa was filthy from viewing outside we chose not to use, were told to park in a very unsafe looking back car park which appeared to have no security & rubbish/broken materials lying around waiting for someone to be injured by.(photos taken) After viewing this carpark we decided not to leave our rental there incase it was broken into. Late in the evening we noticed how dirty the room and bathroom was but as it was very late we did not bother going down to reception, we found other people's hair in the room, mould everywhere, we choose to not complain at the time because we didn't be want to appear "picky" so lowered our standards, however between the hours of around midnight until 5am we were kept awake by construction work (? A digger scraping concrete) near our window, WE WERE NOT WARNED ABOUT THIS because their staff seem to lack communication skills, plus extremely loud noise from other guests in the same area yelling, slamming doors, door to the outside was never locked from the side of the building as we heard it slamming all night, this place felt very unsafe. This was our last straw! We got up early and approached reception on our checkout & we informed the man at the front desk of these concerns and requested a refund, because the description of what we paid for did not match what we received. He declined us a refund on sight and told us if we rang after 10am to speak with the manager they will organise our refund. They did however then offer us breakfast but after reading the reviews on here about the food we declined, don't fancy getting food poisoning. My husband called to negotiate this with them once we were home but was spoken to rudely, by a man saying it's too late if you have already stayed in the room, my husband questioned this response but was promptly hung up on! Unfortunately I had not read the reviews on trip advisor prior to booking as booking.com stated this was a good hotel...there are over 150 "terrible reviews" on trip advisor with very similar complaints yet nothing has been done to change this place. This hotel is often going to be visitors to nz first impression and quite frankly it is very disappointing and shameful to our Country. Something needs to be done so other people don't have to experience the same as we have! It is very unfair that we have no rights to a refund when a service does not match a description! Absolutely disgusting.
We booked this place because we need an early transfer and we can park our car for free. Room was clean and comfortable with a touch of modern look. The only thing we didn't like was the Restaurant. Worst food ever no costumer service skills... and Breakfast was a joke.
We loved staying in this room. The taste of the decor and the price was reasonable. We were so glad to have a great experience. WE had a family suite, and it was such a comfortable bed. For rooms, they I would definately go and use a room their again. We liked the fact they have a restaurant on property. I think the food was okay but nothing to ride home about. I found the flavours wierd.
