We had an excellent stay here. Although not in center, but good transportation you can get into the center very quickly. Neighbourhood around is very nice, quiet and green. Breakfast was good in the hotel and rooms very clean, charming and nicely decorated!

My fiancée and I recently booked a short break in Amsterdam, selecting the Apollofirst as our choice of accommodation. Our trip, rather unusually, had not been the subject of any preplanning making the experience all the more exciting! Choosing to take the train from Schiphol airport to Amsterdam Zuid, our vacation commenced with a pleasant 20 minute stroll to the hotel through the leafy southern Amsterdam suburbs. The hotel is ideally located for business and leisure purposes being a 10-15 minute walk from the museum square and arterial commercial routes. It boasts a quiet location in which you can really unwind . The hotel was every bit the image of the photographs we had seen online; an encapsulation of early 20th century grandeur, classic art deco and Pullman elegance. We arrived a little earlier than expected, but were hosted with a warm welcome and a coffee in the library bar area. Listening to soft jazz playing and chilling out in the soft leather seating really set the tone, and to be honest melted my soul to fall in love with this boutique hotel. With a celebrity history of its own, it is not hard to imagine the glamorous lifestyle this building once supported and has continued to do so over the decades. We stayed three nights, throughout which time all staff we encountered were highly professional, pleasant and enthusiastically helpful. Nothing was too much, and they all went 'the extra mile' making our stay all the more pleasant. The first impressions are echoed throughout the hotel, with individually decorated rooms and corridors tastefully adorned with prints. . Breakfast is available but there are local amenities from which you can purchase fresh breads and the occasional donut if you wish. The No.5 tram which takes you into the heart of old Amsterdam can be caught at the end of the street, but for those able to do so, the walk is easy and takes you through the museum quarter, past plenty of bakeries and quaint little restaurants and bars, particularly along the side streets. Whilst we did not partake of any events in the on-site theatre, its very existence is a rare glimpse back into the life celebre that once frequented this spot. We did not take as much advantage of the facilities as we could have, but with the library bar, breakfast facilities and interior garden there is no excuse not to chill. I imagine the garden alone would be a treat to sit in during the summer months and think yourself anywhere in the world! This hotel deserves every plaudit it receives, and is a credit to the hospitality sector in Amsterdam. Whilst my review is rated 4, the hotel is really a 4.5.

For us this was a perfectly positioned and attractive city hotel, being on a safe, quiet and pretty street close to excellent public transport. Staff were friendly and helpful. A nice touch having free apples available for guests in the foyer. The rooms at the same price are not all equal. Our travelling companion's room was larger and quieter, but our room was quite nice with an excellent en suite bathroom. The bar was very attractively decorated and reasonably priced. The only problem I had was the bedding. The strange arrangement of two single mattresses in double bed set up was mad worse by narrow single duvets and horrid lumpy sponge pillows. a good night's sleep would have made our stay very enjoyable. You can find cafes nearby that will offer much better value breakfasts.

Hotel Apollo First is a lovely hotel with a balance of elegance decor and modern day technology. The staff is mostly pleasant, especially the General Manager, and worked with us when we extended our stay. I felt safe and comfortable there, even taking tea in the bar area, which I have never done before. The tram is down the street and makes getting there and every direction easy. Not only do I recommend this hotel, I would stay here again.

The Apollofirst hotel is top notch! The staff are very friendly and welcoming. They answered all of our questions about Amsterdam, and even accommodated for an extra night. It is decorated very nicely. This is one of if not the nicest hotel I have ever stayed in. Another bonus is that it's in a quieter neighborhood away from the hustle and bustle of the city, however it's not to far. If you are arriving by train just go out side the station and take the 5 tram and get off at roefol hartplein or the next stop either is a short walk to the hotel.

Good location - 5 minutes slow walk to nearby tram station. Walkable to museum area as others pointed out. Wide and quiet street allows for pleasant walks. We later learned this is one of the most expensive areas in Amsterdam! We stayed for 3 nights and got a free upgrade to an apartment. Nonetheless, the rooms were clean and smelled clean with a lovely balcony opening to the back garden. Nice decor and classy designs. The bathroom had a towel warming rack which was great. Buffet breakfast was great quality (17.50 euros i think). Staff were polite and helpful throughout. The hotel also has a theatre on the ground floor but there weren't any shows the night we were there. The only major thing that could be improved is the bath faucet and showerhead. It's positioned awkwardly (sort of near the middle of the bathtub) that makes it difficult not to splash everywhere.

The location was wonderful because it offered such a peaceful escape from crowded and noisy central Amsterdam. Our room was a lovely size and the bed was comfortable. Breakfast was delicious and offered multiple choices.

This hotel's situation is very practical. The staff is very friendly and the decoration is cozy and original. However, my room was noisy, and this was not only the street noise coming through the closed windows, but also vibrations each time someone used the lift or walked close to my room.

Loved this hotel. The location is great, on a quiet street, just about 1.5 km from the Museum area. Near Beethovenstraat which has great boutiques and coffee shops. the breakfast is really good, and set next to the garden. The rooms are well appointed and clean. The staff is friendly and helpful.

A lovely staff, pretty room, quiet bar/coffee area, this spot is a prime choice. Near Beethovenstraat boutiques, coffee houses and restaurants.I walked to the RAI every day, close-ish to museum district. ONLY downside is lack of room service.
