We stay at the top floor of the hotel, need to carry up luggage for one floor. Nevertheless the hotel staff are very friendly, cosy nice "lobby" / eating place that looks like a little train museum. Its just a short walk from Amsterdam Main Train station, most attractions are within walking distance. A great place to stay!
Stayed here one night. This place is literally right across the street from AMS Central. We had an early train to Paris. Fabulous little complimentary breakfast. Would totally come back again! Don't leave without visiting the coffee shops and bakeries!
Had a great 2 nights at the A-Train. It is 5 minutes walk from the main train station. Very close to all the central Amsterdam attractions. Staff were extremely friendly and helpful. We had a room at the back which did not have a view but was extremely quiet. Bed was one of the most comfy we have had in a hotel. Wifi was excellent. Breakfast catered very well for our needs. Would definitely stay here again when returning to Amsterdam.
A perfect location. However a mouse was running on the food at breakfast. I don t think it is an excuse that there are a lot of mouses in Amsterdam. Receptionist laughing and did not even apologise. Lukily it was our check out date.
I stayed at the A Train hotel in November 2017. The hotel is very conveniently situated about a 5 minute walk from Amsterdam Centraal station, about 5 minutes from Damrak and about 10 to 15 minutes from Dam Square. The location on Prins Hendrikkade is a very busy part of Amsterdam, as you’d expect in such a central location, and as well as trains, you’ve also got easy access to buses, trams and the metro. I was given a check in time of 7 am, and arrived at about mid-day. Although my room wasn’t ready, I checked in and was given a luggage receipt for my case, which was stored in a secure room while I went out for a bite to eat. The A Train has 34 rooms, ranging from small single to family sized. I stayed in a small single room on the first floor. It was indeed quite small, but was perfectly comfortable for a solo traveller, spending a couple of nights in the city. Breakfast was included in the room price - this was a buffet style breakfast as is common in Holland. The choice was cereal, pastries, bread / rolls (toaster for the sliced bread), cheeses, meats, tea / coffee, juice etc. The breakfast is served in the lounge, which is available at all other times of day as a sitting area. In the lounge there are vending machines for snacks and drinks, all available 24 hours a day. During my stay I chatted to several members of the staff, and all were very friendly, and took an interest in my trip to Holland, suggesting some interesting places to visit. In general, the A Train is a pleasant hotel. Given the location, I think you’d be hard pressed to find anything this good in this price bracket.
We recently spent two nights at this wonderful hotel. What a great find. It is like being in the transport museum. Great location - opposite where you pick up the canal cruise boats. 10 minutes from the Amsterdam Main station. The hotel is right in the middle of the transport hub. The rooms are comfortable and clean. The staff were very friendly and helpful especially the guys on reception. We will definitely be booking to stay here again. Also have already recommended the hotel already.
Lobby is full of pictures and antiquities of history of trains. It is your very own museum, inside your hotel! They should have named the Hotel as a train/museum. Wonderful staff. Everybody happy in Amsterdam so are they. Hotel location is excellent no matter why you are in Amsterdam.
At the end of our riverboat cruise we spent 1 night at the ATRAIN hotel. The rooms were comfortable and clean, and they had a decent breakfast the next am. The decor was all model trains which would have really impressed my grandson. I left my iPad at the table in the breakfast area, and did not notice until the following day when we were miles away. I emailed the hotel and they said it had been found. They carefully wrapped it and mailed it back to me. Today I am happily reunited with my iPad. I can't thank them enough.
Off the train and into hotel within 10 minutes walk. As expected hotel is in old building with good size lift. Room and bathroom compact ( very small) but functional for a good nights sleep. Double bed up against the wall caused some problems but bed was comfortable for a good nights sleep. Ground floor very unigue done out as a train carriage with train memorabilia around the walls. This is where you had breakfast which we felt was very good to start the day exploring. Either side of the hotel was a convenience store and a supermarket, so if you needed any additional things it was no trouble. Further most tram lines terminated opposite the hotel at the train station, so if you walked too far from the hotel you just had to hop a tram to get back to the hotel that night.Conductors are on the trams to take cash. Amsterdam hotels are not cheap, but we were happy with the A train for the price. But be aware it is a compact hotel with small rooms.
We arrived very early in the day and easily found this hotel across from the train station. The hotel clerk stored our luggage in a secure room for us until our room became available later in the day. Each of the two buildings has an elevator. Our room was in the back building and had no street noise. The room was small, but we still had room for our two suitcases. The hotel had train-themed decorations throughout. Breakfast was available in a room next to the lobby and had a decent selection of items (sliced meats/cheeses/breads, yogurts, fruit and hard boiled eggs).
