Tel Aviv residents who need a break from the heat or just want to see the United States can fly from Tel Aviv to Chicago. A nonstop flight is about 13 hours long. Ben Gurion International Airport (TLV) is in the southeast area of the city. If you're coming from the north, take Route 6 and then Route 5 to Route 20, also called Ayalon Freeway. Route 20 is also quickest when your starting point is in the closer west side of Tel Aviv.
Chicago has plenty of fun activities to keep you busy on your visit. Chicago Reader named the Chicago Architectural Foundation's riverboat tour the "Best Tour of 2014." See some of the most beautiful buildings in the city from the Chicago River. The Lincoln Park Zoo is one of the few admission-free zoos in the United States. Lake Michigan is surrounded by 18 miles of trails, so you can go biking or hiking while enjoying a great view. You can also go fishing or take a swim in the lake.
After you arrive at O'Hare (ORD) or Midway International Airport (MDW), the airport shuttle can take you to a convenient downtown hotel. You can also take a taxi, rent a car or ride the L train. Chicago temperatures range from the teens in January to the 80s in July and August. In the winter, head to the Willis-Sears Tower Skydeck for a spectacular view of the snow-covered city.
