James Cook Hotel Grand Chancellor

4.5 out of 5.0

Easy walking distance to everything in the CBD, but the town essentially shuts down by 6 pm, so you need to eat or shop early.

No free Internet in rooms - cheap! Management does not want to spend any money for guest comfort. Management also does a poor job of maintenance as there was black tape to seal gap between two windows. What a joke. Overall, I would pick a different hotel.

I had a great experience. The hotel was clean, modern, had a great location, helpful staff and honestly a great price for the hotel. It is located in the financial district and a short walk to the main strips.

This hotel was in a great location - east walking distance to the water and lots of restaurants, etc. We were surprised with the extra charge for using a credit card to pay.

The location of this hotel is excellent, just nearby the main street (Lambton St./shopping & CBD area), and is very convenient for any kinds of public transportation.

I am specifically writing this feedback because of my not-so-great experience with wifi coverage, or more specifically lack of it in james cook. The hotel experience was otherwise OK but in certain parts of the hotel wifi coverage is lacking so watch out!

Hotel is conveniently located. Room was clean and neat. Staff was very friendly and helpful. One reveiw said the hotel was older but it definitely been remodeled.

Very comfortable room. Super location. There's an elevator in the lobby down to the main street (Lambton Quay). This saves a lot of walking. One problem with room. If you're an older person - the bathtub/shower was hard to get in and out of. There are good handholds which saved the day.

We loved our room. Very spacious and the shower was lovely. Had a good dinner and breakfast. The internet usage got a little expensive - but probably because we skyped family and it used up a lot of power. Very close to downtown.

We had a great experience with the James Cook hotel. It was in a terrific location, walkable to everything -- which we did. The room was mid-size and the beds were very comfortable. Quiet 15th floor location. We can recommend this hotel to anyone. We did not try the hotel restaurant -- there were too many other enticing dining choices around Wellington! If we had one wish, it would be that the piano bar in the lobby stay open later.

After a horrendous night at the BASE Auckland hotel we were ready to die if we couldn't sleep. The James Cook was a step into quiet luxury and we had two wonderful nights there. Leaving early for the ferry we treated ourselves to a room service breakfast - it was on time, hot, delicious, perfect. Great place, great price!

Friendly service, beautiful / clean room and fantastic location.

Very nice hotel. Centrally located.

This was an excellent place to stay in the heart of the city. It was easy to walk to many different places and see all the sites, plus it was a short trip from the train and ferry stations.

A very good experience for me and my wife.

Awesome location! You can walk down some of the best streets in Wellington right out of the hotel door. Also bus transportation is very close to hotel.

Rooms are nice, clean and comfortable. Has all the expected amenities except for offering hand lotion as most hotels do which was slightly disappointing since it's dry and windy in Wellington. It seems like a stupid thing to complain about but with travel restrictions on liquids it's something I've come to expect any decent hotel to provide. Location is great; an easy walk to just about every destination in the city.

Wonderfully staffed hotel form the concierge to the restaurant.
