Lovely historic old building, dark wood, tiled floors - a grand environment. Visit the restaurant occasionally. Today was for a colleagues birthday. The service was good and very fast. I hadn't expected it to be quite so busy mid morning. Beautiful muffins on this mornings menu - Spinach and Feta - also the cheese scone was nice. Good coffees. I've not seen the accommodation, but I imagine it is pretty good. A very handy central location to Wellington, the bus, rail and ferry terminals.
Mixed in with the masonic lodge rooms, is the classic old fashioned, very high ceiling room. Its just the antiquated look - wifi worked well, fridge fine, a nice cafe on ground level, great location, very friendly and helpful staff. After hours arrival was painless even though reception was closed.
While the renovation is still a work in progress in places, our stay here was fantastic and memorable. The building and the renovation are really lovely. From the entryway (and the Great War memorial plaque) to the lift to the claw foot tubs, this is an enchanting place. We were there on a Wellington holiday and a little confused by how to reach the desk after hours (the information was there, just not where we expected in the book--it was on the desk) and other than that, found it peaceful, restful, and beautiful. We were so happy to have stayed there.
What a find. You'll either love it or hate it. We absolutely loved it. If you like all mod cons, no atmosphere and like to pay big bucks then this isn't the hotel for you. That said it's situated in the right place for visiting all the attractions in Wellington, for shopping, visiting bars and restaurants and is in easy walking distance from the railway station. We arrived via the Northern Explorer. We had an executive room that was very spacious with a fantastic bathroom with a massive walk in shower. There is a cafe/ restaurant on the ground-floor and despite its limited opening hours serves great food and has really friendly staff. I believe the hotel was once a gentleman's club and it still retains all of the charm of it's era including a lovely old lift that I needed to use as I have mobility issues. The decor has been tastefully done and adds to it's appeal. This was our first time visiting Wellington and if we're lucky enough to be able to visit again this hotel will be our first choice.
I love staying here, and do so every time I'm in town (except for one occasion, when they were fully booked). The location is perfect, between Lambton Quay and the Waterfront, it's nice and quiet, and it really is a beautiful building. The staff is what keeps me returning, however, because they are so helpful and obliging, and nothing ever seems to be a problem. I love it.
We booked direct to get the best price on accommodation. The hotel is in an excellent location and only 5 mins flat walk to the railway station. The room was large and very comfortable despite being in a heritage building. We looked on to Maginnity Street from room 203 - no view but quite private. Excellent plunger coffee in the room and very comfortable bed. The wifi was slow and not really useable. That was the only downside. The staff were very friendly and helpful.
This is a unique property that cannot be compared to other hotels. This is an historic building. Our large room had a high ceiling and decent lighting. Entering the building is like stepping back in time. The woodwork, grand, spiral staircase and antiquated elevator add to the feeling. The bed and pillows were comfortable. There was good counter space in the clean bathroom. Front desk staff was friendly. The 1815 restaurant on the ground floor served delicious meals. The hotel is a 5 to 10 minute walk to the train station. We walked around the downtown to the cable car and the parliament building, and along the waterfront to the Te Papa Museum. We would stay here again.
This little hotel is just stunning and full of character! The room was just gorgeous and the bed was the most comfy bed ive slept on in a hotel in a very very long time plus the staff were amazing - will definitely be back next visit to Wellington 😊👍❤
What a great place. Perfectly located in the centre of the business district so close to everything. Friendly and efficient staff. Historic rooms wonderfully supplied with everything you need for a night away including his and hers robes. Old room but everything works as expected. Nice and warm and very quiet. Enjoyed my stay and will be back again.
I recently stayed at Wellesley Boutique Hotel for 2 night for a work trip. I arrived early (around 12pm) on the day of check-in, I jsut wanted to drop off my bags but my room was already available. This was great and such good service, I was amazed when I walked into the room, it looked like it was in a castle with gold-red drapes and a spacious bathroom with a lion-claw bathtub. The room was generally very spacious and the bed comfortable. I was jsut a bit disappointed with the view, the window went into a tiny little lightwell so all I could see was concrete and cobwebs...I preferred to have the curtains drawn all day. I'd suggest to ask for a room towards the street side where you might be able to get a little bit of a view. The service was great! There was a bit of a hiccough with my credit card charges but the reception staff sorted that our as soon as possible! I'll definitely come back to stay next time I'm in Wellington.
