Many poor design choices; overall incredibly dated

4 nights solo in room 1604, May 2025. Probably the best view across the harbour/city from any building in Wellington. But... -Tiny shower box -Low shower pressure (but good temperature) -Also low shower head (heightwise) -Ridiculously big bowl sink in bathroom leaves barely any space for personal items -Tap for bathroom sink on bench, not over sink, so you drip water everywhere whenever you turn the tap off with wet hands -Heater and 2 lights not working - reported and apparently fixed but 1 light only intermittently and the heater never worked -No extractor fan in bathroom -Not enough rails or hooks across bathroom & kitchen (none in kitchen, one hook in bathroom and rails above toilet if you want to hang your towels above the toilet) -No kitchen cloth/sponge, tea towel only -Wobbly kitchen tap -Kitchen items in open cupboards -Microwave overdue for safety inspection (not something I would normally take notice of, but if you're going to display the sticker prominently make sure it's up to date) -Uneven mattress -No dresser or anything in bedroom to put items in/on -2 TVs but neither with the ability to screencast -Can hear the lifts from the bedroom No Wi-Fi network called 'Mercure' anything, I had to call the front desk to ask what the network name was and they took 10 minutes to answer the phone. When you exit the lift there are no signs to direct you to your room, and in the lift down low there's an access panel and a 'swipe here' sign - put the sign at eye level!

Central City Stay

The hotel situated right in the central city. Many restaurants, cafes and shops in the walk distance. Apartment with 2 bedrooms and kitchen is big enough for 4 of us. No AC only heater. Noisy in the morning (around 4am) because the rubbish truck coming to collect the rubbish from the restaurants/bars behind the hotel. Overall: It's a good stay for 1 night. That what you get for the price and in the central city

Staff are young trainees and very lovely - I felt sorry for them. Our room: Single Glazed and very noisy from street below, especially when the homeless hangout down the street at the DayNight convenience shop at night. Room was dated and scruffy, needs refurbishing. Dirty occasional chairs, filthy dining chairs! Dirty carpet. Shower was out of control and impossible to shower with out water going all over the floor. Bathroom sink was good but was scared the faucet would come loose. Bedroom TV did not work, no maintenance over the weekend. Not all power outlets worked, NO AIR CON! They brought us up a couple of fans. GOOD PARTs: 2 things: All staff we met were very lovely and did their best to keep guests happy. They are this hotel's biggest asset! There was a large earthquake in the middle of the night and neither of us felt it! Pretty good since I used to live here and even a small shake usually has me holding my breath!
