Only one of the staff is very rude and vulgate and makes you feel you are stupid. Try to avoid him. No lift. You can find somebody to help you carry your luggage. One of the staff gave us all of the attractions we need to visit there. Excellent location beside the central station. Nice breakfast.
We traveled to Venice by train, and leaving by train early in the morning so this hotel is perfect for us since it is located few minutes away from the train station. The room is clean and the bed is comfortable, however, the walls are thin that you can hear people talking and walking pass outside your room. Breakfast is adequate and they have no internet policy at the breakfast area.
This is an old building with out a lift / elevator and no rooms are on the ground floor. We had a spartan room, with an uncomfortable bed. The night clerk was surly, at best. There were two positives. This hotel is in a good location and the price included a free continental break.
We booked this hotel, mainly due to it's proximity to the train station. Which, if traveling Italy via train and backpack ... I highly recommend. This place listed as a 3 star and it earns every but of that. I'm giving it a 4 because we asked the gentleman at the front desk if he could recommend a restaurant, and he literally walked us to one and got us a table. My guess is that the people complaining about the staff on here may need to reassess how they approach them. Just saying. We were upbeat and positive and received the same in return every time. As for the hotel itself. Yes, it's a little dated. Personally, I didn't want my first trip to Venice to be in a Marriott. I can get that here. I wanted a Venice hotel. I wanted to feel Venice. This place delivered, was clean, the bed was comfortable, and the staff very accommodating. Located next to the Grand Canal, it's easy to access via water taxi and by foot. This was our very first night in Italy. Thank you Universo Nord Hotel for making it an easy one ....
If you have any thing of value don't leave it on the floor as the place leaks. There was some heavy rain and we came back to a big puddle in the room and bathroom was flooded. Would've been nice if the staff warned us. We were told there was wifi in the room but the truth is there is only wifi on the ground floor, but if you have a room on the first floor you might be able to connect a few bars. What really ruined the mood for us was that we were sent here by one of their sister hotels and when asked what the price was they said more or less the same price (so 80 euro). No, it was 120 euro. That is not more or less the same, that is about $65 Australian dollars difference! Liars! When we checked into universo hotel and were obviously shocked by the price the concierge snarked that it was a 3 star hotel (laughable). The room itself was bleak and the entire feel of the hotel is sad, not even in a charming way. And to top it off the blanket smelt like the ghost of bad washing. Wish I spent the extra energy to find a different hotel. But if you unfortunately end up here then go for the croissants at breakfast.
Hotel has a nice rooms and it has quite nice position in the city. Personal is extremelly burnt-out. If you are requestig them any advice they will start to explaning you that you are studid, that you dont understand how doest it work any Venice ... practically it takes them ages before you will get any information expet for example fact that it will be "whole day raining" - this information is imediatelly appeared from their month with stars of happines in theis eyes. Internet isnt on the rooms, you can use that only at hall and it so slow that I wants able to upload 50 MB file. There is forbiten to use an internet during breakfast (which is really stupid because everybody use it exept me because I was noticed).... so all these fact makes you life extremelly comlicated.
Hotel is just 5 min walk from train station and water bus station. it is just on the main shopping street. Please remember that in venice you either travel by water ways or on feet, there is no other mode of transport within Venice. There are plenty of restaurants nearby to choose from. rooms were good but veiw from room is not great. Internet is not good in rooms, need to come to lobby for good connection. we were given early checkin without any charge.
Venice is beautiful, but this temeperature I'm not suggest for trip for anybody! Our hotel is on great Location near Santa Lucia station! If you're comming with Train or bus this is excellent Location! Rooms Are comfortable, breakfast average.... Because of high temperature out we have to most of the day be in hotel! This hotel is not for relaxing is perfect for overnight and Go out. Anyway i will come again but not in august!....
The only reason we stayed at this hotel was because it was close to the train station. I wasn't expecting much and that is exactly what we received. The hotel, the room and every aspect of the hotel is old, worn out, ripped, and outdated. This hotel could be great if it is renovated and updated. The shower is so small we could hardly fit to close the door and we are NOT big in any sense. The rate is low and so should be your expectations of what you are getting. Wifi was "worked" only in the lobby and it was not consistent, fast or reliable.
I went here in August when Venice is packed with tourists but surprisingly it wasn't that much of a change in prices. Around €120 for 3 people per night+breakfast seems pretty solid for me. The rooms aren't the best but ok for a 3 star classic hotel. Although getting to your room can be challenging sometimes. I went hear last year to and the room we stayed in was like a maze. We had to go to their yard and then their laundry room and then up the stairs in all these crazy directions and dead ends, but thats the only complaint I've got. Over all the location is great, close to the entrances of Venice's old town and close to the water bus station. I would recommend because it was pretty clean in a great location, i enjoyed my stay both times visiting Venice.
