If you have any thing of value don't leave it on the floor as the place leaks. There was some heavy rain and we came back to a big puddle in the room and bathroom was flooded. Would've been nice if the staff warned us. We were told there was wifi in the room but the truth is there is only wifi on the ground floor, but if you have a room on the first floor you might be able to connect a few bars. What really ruined the mood for us was that we were sent here by one of their sister hotels and when asked what the price was they said more or less the same price (so 80 euro). No, it was 120 euro. That is not more or less the same, that is about $65 Australian dollars difference! Liars! When we checked into universo hotel and were obviously shocked by the price the concierge snarked that it was a 3 star hotel (laughable). The room itself was bleak and the entire feel of the hotel is sad, not even in a charming way. And to top it off the blanket smelt like the ghost of bad washing. Wish I spent the extra energy to find a different hotel. But if you unfortunately end up here then go for the croissants at breakfast.
Hotel has a nice rooms and it has quite nice position in the city. Personal is extremelly burnt-out. If you are requestig them any advice they will start to explaning you that you are studid, that you dont understand how doest it work any Venice ... practically it takes them ages before you will get any information expet for example fact that it will be "whole day raining" - this information is imediatelly appeared from their month with stars of happines in theis eyes. Internet isnt on the rooms, you can use that only at hall and it so slow that I wants able to upload 50 MB file. There is forbiten to use an internet during breakfast (which is really stupid because everybody use it exept me because I was noticed).... so all these fact makes you life extremelly comlicated.
Hotel is just 5 min walk from train station and water bus station. it is just on the main shopping street. Please remember that in venice you either travel by water ways or on feet, there is no other mode of transport within Venice. There are plenty of restaurants nearby to choose from. rooms were good but veiw from room is not great. Internet is not good in rooms, need to come to lobby for good connection. we were given early checkin without any charge.
Venice is beautiful, but this temeperature I'm not suggest for trip for anybody! Our hotel is on great Location near Santa Lucia station! If you're comming with Train or bus this is excellent Location! Rooms Are comfortable, breakfast average.... Because of high temperature out we have to most of the day be in hotel! This hotel is not for relaxing is perfect for overnight and Go out. Anyway i will come again but not in august!....
The only reason we stayed at this hotel was because it was close to the train station. I wasn't expecting much and that is exactly what we received. The hotel, the room and every aspect of the hotel is old, worn out, ripped, and outdated. This hotel could be great if it is renovated and updated. The shower is so small we could hardly fit to close the door and we are NOT big in any sense. The rate is low and so should be your expectations of what you are getting. Wifi was "worked" only in the lobby and it was not consistent, fast or reliable.
I went here in August when Venice is packed with tourists but surprisingly it wasn't that much of a change in prices. Around €120 for 3 people per night+breakfast seems pretty solid for me. The rooms aren't the best but ok for a 3 star classic hotel. Although getting to your room can be challenging sometimes. I went hear last year to and the room we stayed in was like a maze. We had to go to their yard and then their laundry room and then up the stairs in all these crazy directions and dead ends, but thats the only complaint I've got. Over all the location is great, close to the entrances of Venice's old town and close to the water bus station. I would recommend because it was pretty clean in a great location, i enjoyed my stay both times visiting Venice.
Purpose of staying here is only because of the location. Santa Lucia train station is just a few steps away. We stayed here to see the Mask Festival happening on February. All the hotels are very full and you will see big crowd of people everywhere. Room is good for a couple. Receptionist has given all important information about the festival including a map showing the places of festival happening. WIFI doesn't work on us at all.
Stayed here early July was not a very nice place to stay rooms were old toilet in the foyer didn't shut properly or lock no elevators or help for luggage itchy sheets for sleeping in and Internet only available in at the office.. it might be cheaper but still not worth what you pay some how it's a 3 star!! I've stayed in 2 stars since then that have felt like 5 stars in comparison!!
If you want luxury, this hotel is not for you. If you want a convenient, clean room to sleep in, stay here. The staff is very friendly and helpful. They held my room for me, even though I was late due to canceled flights. The air conditioning is weak, but it works, and in Venice in July, that's a must. The bedding was very clean, though clearly older. The breakfast is plentiful but not terribly exciting or delicious. The coffee is from a machine, and they have cold cuts rather than hot meats. Lots of cereal and yogurt. Enough of a meal to get you started. On a busy street, right across from restaurants and street vendors. Very near the vaporetti stop and the train station. I will stay here again, due to the pricing and the locations, but be advised it's an old place and not romantic at all. WiFi only in the lobby, so you cannot email or be on the internet in your room.
We had a great room on the 3rd floor which had a piazza running along outside where you can sit have a drink and watch the throngs of people passing by. With a great view of the Grande Canal I'm not too sure if the other rooms were as good, as only this floor had the piazza. Leonardo on reception was very friendly and helpful It's an old hotel so don't expect the Ritz but we loved it. Would definitely book the same rooms again
