Hotel Villa Delle Palme3.0 out of 5.0

The hotel is a touch of older styling. The rooms are European (smaller) in nature. The beds are hard (which I like) so keep that in mind. Our corner room (22) was just fine. The Wifi is excellent, as is the breakfast. I cannot speak to staff interactions, but the owner is extremely helpful and was there most days. He is both friendly and helpful. BTW: you can get your passport back after a day or so, just remember to ask. Now: here's the key. GO UPSTAIRS TO THE LOUNGE AREA. The view of Lido cannot be beat. They have couches that are protected, and you can go even further up to a higher lookout. Great for viewing old Venezia. You can't find this view anywhere else. Lido is quiet (I was there on business), so bear this in mind.
Fair price, good location (beach and boats). I found the owners professional but they lacked a personal touch, a spirit. After 3 days parking, the tree had melt its sap and a solution for a quick cleaning would be a plus, since you pay for this parking ! Mind the fact that they keep your passeports until you leave so like me, since they forgot giving them back, I do not forget them, and wasted my time going to the ferry and back, 2 hours wasted until the next ferry. Wifi is pathetic.
Lido Island is quiet and very local if you want to stay away from San Marco with lots of tourists. Villa Delle Palme is located on a quiet street about a 10 minute walk from the ferry. The hotel is not bad although the room was really small for 2 people. It's a nicely appointed hotel. More like a boutique hotel. The thing that lets it down is the staff that were on duty when we were there. Not helpful. Also if you want to stay on a quiet island like Lido better to be on the Main Street where you feel some atmosphere otherwise you could be anywhere. We stayed one night and moved over to San Marco because it was just too quiet.
Spacious room but the smell hits you as soon as you pass the door. I guess from the filthy wall to wall carpet. The matresses good, but the pillows too flat. The bathroom OK but water not so hot. The air conditioning disabled although the room was hot, as we were there in June. The only good thing was the breakfast. If you don't bother the heat and the smell you could stay here.. And also they did not change sheets or towels during our three-days stay.
Possibly one of the worst choices for a honeymoon hotel in the history of the institution of marriage. Upon being shown to our "superior double" we were horrified at the small size of the room, the worn carpets, the foisty smell, thin towels, extremely small bathroom and shower. We decided from the off to spend a minimal amount of time in the room and grin and bear it, but by Sunday night the smell in the room, which had got worse gradually during our stay, had reached such levels that had any staff been on duty past 8pm we would have requested a move there and then - there wasn't, so the next morning upon my request, the receptionist contacted the manager by phone and he sanctioned a move to a junior suite which was of a higher spec and would be more the sort of room which would normally justify the use of the word superior and a 130 euro a night price tag. I still a wanted a face to chat with the manager and was told he was away from the hotel but would be there by 8am the next morning - he wasn't! The receptionist then phoned him and said he would be there by 9.30am - he wasn't and finally arrived a further hour plus later. It would be fair to say after our full and frank discussion of views, that we have somewhat different opinions as to the definition of the word superior, communication, and efficient hotel management techniques, but he did agree a 10 euro per night discount, which whilst appreciated did not leave me feeling any better about having received value for money or have receiving anything like the standard of service and quality we are used to and which we wanted for our honeymoon. Being one not to normally leave bad reviews, I will compliment it on its proximity to the Vaporetto station but can categorical state that not a single wedding anniversary will ever be spent by us in this establishment. Breakfast is included but is quite basic with warm food left uncovered and unprotected and we only chose to eat there three times during our nine night stay. From chatting to fellow holidaymakers, I would suggest that better quality and value can be achieved on the Lido at lower cost.
The location of this hotel was very good, close to vaparetto and excellent restaurants. However, the hotel itself was very poor. Worn carpets, very basic breakfast, tiny bathroom and thin towels. No extras such as tissues in room. Very understaffed especially at breakfast. No tea or coffee facilities except at breakfast. Unfriendly check in and no reception open after 7pm. Would not stay again or recommend to others.
This is a nice, small hotel. Convenient location- 5 minutes walk from the ferry stop. There are few restaurants located nearby. The breakfast spread is nice. Helpful staff. The room was cosy, but looked a little more dated in actual, than it looked in the photos.
We arrived at 9am hoping we could just leave luggage at the hotel but instead the helpful lady on reception found us a room that was ready straight away. The apartment was very spacious and had everything you needed. Beautifully decorated. Unfortunately the weather wasn't great during our stay so we didn't get to make use of the pool and gardens which looked lovely! Breakfast was a standard continental, wifi was good speed connection etc. Lovely hotel would definitely stay again if I came back to venice. The lido is lovely and quiet and calm and the vaporetto into venice is only about 15 minutes and really easy with a day pass. Tip on travel: If you get the number 1 water bus from the lido it takes you all the way down the grand canal with great views of all the main sights and as you are first on at the lido you can get the best seats!
We stayed here for 2 nights with our 2 teenagers. It was great as we had booked a quadruple room and our basement room had 2 separate bedrooms. The rooms were very small but quite adequate for our needs. The continental part of the breakfast was lovely but the scrambled eggs and bacon were served in dishes that weren't kept warm, so they were ice cold, which was a pity because they tasted really good. The waitress in the breakfast room was very attentive and friendly. The hotel is situated 5 minutes from the vaporetto which is great when you have to pull your suitcases down the road! Our room could have done with a bit of a revamp as the carpets were stained and it is looking a bit shabby, but it was fine for our 2 nights.
We had a 6 night stay mid April. We had room 27 which they refer to as a small double. I can tell you it is a SMALL double. There was just enough room to walk by on one side and about 20cm at the other. The room had a wardrobe, table and mini bar and it was clean. The bathroom and that of the adjoining room back onto each other ( which I think is why the room is sooo small) so we could hear " noises " from the other bathroom. Our shower door was a bit dodgy, we asked them to fix it so hopefully they will. I also found it tricky to get into the shower being as it was, quite close to the wash basin. Again the bathroom was clean if a little care worn. I agree with the comments about the scrambled eggs being cold. If you get them early they are fine. The breakfast selection was varied and I think typical of Italian hotels. There are 7 tables in the dining room and if everyone turns up at once there are not enough tables. The lady serving the food was welcoming and friendly, I never heard her raise her voice once so I'm confused by the comments about her being noisy. We stayed at the Hotel Rigel opposite last year and were desperate to come back to stay at the Villa de Palme as we could see it from our room; I think we were both a little disappointed by the hotel it's self. No way would I describe it as "boutique" hotel. The roof terrace is a bonus, as is the location in the quiet street close to the vaporetto stop. I don't think I would stay here again, it was rather disappointing. Oh and the air con is not switched on until the end of May!
