For the price, it was a nice hotel that gave me what I needed. Finding parking nearby was a little difficult, but is in the perfect spot for walking around Shinjuku.

Bed bug infestation

I actually liked the hotel. However they have a bed bug infestation. Every time I would use a white towel there was a bed bug on it. At first I thought it was just a regular bug. But my body was covered in bites. My brother also had bites. Also the bed sheets both had a red spot. We joked it was blood but now I’m sure it was. The people were nice but when I reported and showed her the bug in the towel she just made a noise like she was scared. If I didn’t have bites all over my body I could get over it. But the bites were really bad. I’m just hoping this didn’t get in our luggage. Everything else was fine and I know any hotel can have this issue. This was just too much. It’s been over two weeks and my body still discolored.

Excellent budget choice in authentic neighbourhood

I don't see how you could find fault with this hotel. The staff are extremely friendly and helpful, and everyone I came across had perfect English. The location is excellent; less than a five minute walk to Shin Okubo on the Yamanote (loop) line, and amidst all of the great Korea Town restaurants and shops. The room itself was very large, and had all necessary amenities plus some nice extras which you don't always see now, like mouthwash, and a refrigerator. The shikibuton (Japanese mattress/futon) was super comfortable and I slept really well. I can't believe they aren't charging more for this place!

Some of the best rest during my trip

In the end I had some of the best sleep on the mats. It's true that if you are on the first floor you might have a musky smell coming from the restroom but if you close the door it is fine. Overall it is a nice place. The doors/walls can be a bit thin so you can hear people coming and going but it isn't too big of a deal. Nice that it was pretty close to the station too.

Pros: Good location, close to Shinjuku businesses, one computer, laundry and One microwave for the whole hotel, good shower pressure and hot water. Cons: Small, no elevator, musty smell, very dangerous room, there was only stones and loose gravel connecting to the restroom/Shower, one can easily fall and brake a bone, we were unable to move out since it was given at night when we were tired and needed to rest, I would Not recommend it or may be as a last resort

Very unique type of place to stay on vacation with helpful staff. The property and amenities were a bit annoying to work with at times (dryers are slow and don't dry well, lounge room was kind of dingy with tatami mat that's basically fallen apart, the doorknob fell off our door the first day and had to be fixed, needing to duck when going through every doorway, the TV in our room not working). That is a lot of issues, but if you can look past most of them, you've got a very unique experience and friendly staff to help with your issues.

Location is fantastic within minutes from 2 JR stations. Amenities and necessities are within walking distances. Laundry on the 4th floor comes handy. Room is small in size for 3 occupants. With heavy luggages maybe a challenge to climb up 2-3 floors. Also note that Shin Okubo (Yamanote line) has no lifts or escalators. If you have heavy luggages or with old age people recommend to use JR Okubo Station.

It was an amazing experience staying at Shin-Okubo Sekitei. The room is decorated in a semi-ryokan style, very tidy and clean. The location is great, just 5 minutes walking to train stations(Either Shin-Okubo or Okubo). Will definitely stay there again.

Charming Japanese style hotel. Don't let that dissuade you if you're Western! The futon beds were some of the most comfortable we slept on in Japan! Cozy and Comfortable. Very convenient to the JR.

Great price great stay

I was not expecting something fancy for this price, so I was pleased by getting more than expected. Clean room, clean bathroom, clean shower. The Japanese style beds were actually comfortable. Note - I only found Japanese changes on the TV but it’s japan so I can’t complain. I will say that the WiFi at this hotel was amazing during my stay!
