The hotel is close to the subway station and seemed to be close to most sites we wanted to visit. The staff seemed happy to assist us with any request we had in English. The hotel and bar was busy every time we were in the lobby; maybe this is a popular place to hangout at? The two elevators seemed to be available with short wait times throughout the day. The breakfast was amazing. I would recommend ordering items off the menu for breakfast, like the French Toast and pancakes (amazing) through the servers. Otherwise, the scrambled eggs, bacon, fresh fruit, and assortment of cheese, cold meats, and breads left us full and happy. We found the free tea and coffee throughout the day to be a nice addition after a long visit in the city. The room was decently sized, the shower was great and I think the bathroom floors were maybe heated? The room itself seemed lacking in light sources, but was not much of issue for our stay. The thermostat took awhile to figure out. The "pillow menu" was nice feature to have for the room... I wanted to order and try them all! The beds were comfortable as well. I would recommend the hotel.

Sean, the concierge, and the rest of the staff could not have been more welcoming or friendly! It was the perfect hotel in the perfect location. The room was spacious and clean and had the best view of the park across the street. Sean from booking the hotel was fast in responses to email and helped us set up transportation from the airport to the hotel. The staff upon arrival was very welcoming and helpful with maps and general info. The restaurant was great as well. The morning complimentary breakfast was hot and delicious and plenty of options to pick from. Dinner the first night was terrific. The server we had (the one that ran the Boston Marathon - sorry, I don't remember the name) was terrific too. The older server on Sunday night though was not engaging at all. Would definitely stay here again! Thank you all for a terrific birthday getaway and the gift waiting in my room upon arrival!

Stockholm is eminently walkable. From Hotel Rival you can walk to the Old Town and Royal Palace in about 20-30 minutes respectively. Some roads are hilly, so bring good walking shoes. Wonderful views of the city with all the waterways from heights near hotel on the way to Old Town. Hotel is comfortable and has very friendly and helpful staff, especially the Concierge Sean. We learned a lot about Swedish history from Richard. Good thing about boutique hotel is that you can get to know the staff. Room had picturesque garden view. Comfortable bed. Nice provision of slippers and bathrobes. Third floor guest computer room with free coffee and cookies was a great treat. Hop on Hop off bus and boat is best way to get around, but watch out for hours of operation. Last boat leaves at 4 p.m. Competing boats with same name will not pick up competitor's passengers. Vasa Museum most memorable and very well thought out. Well worth a visit.

Quiet rather Ultra Modern room. Average in size. Nice amenities.

Staid two nights. Nice hotel. good breakfast and close to old city

Hotel is in a great location - lots of showing and restaurants within an easy walk. Our room was above the bar which was loud but we were so tired it didn't bother us.

I have traveled extensively, and this is still one of the best hotels I have ever been to. I loved the room, it was decorated in a very chic manner, very comfortable, awesome bed, had chocolate treat waiting for me when I arrived in the room. Perfectly located in Stockholm near the trendiest area, and right next to a city bike location where you can rent bikes by just swiping a card. Lots of authentic swedish restaurants and cafe's around, and the most authentic shopping. Most importantly, the concierge was seriously the most helpful I have encountered anywhere, I emailed them questions before arriving and they provided a 2 page email with suggestions, which was fantastic! I will definitely go back one day.

The Rival is a lovely small hotel. The staff is young and very willing to help and answer questions, give directions, etc. The included breakfast was fabulous. Various meats, gravlax, cheeses, fruits, made-to-order omelettes or pancakes, etc. A very good deal in a very nice and sunny room. The location, for us, was not ideal. We spent a good part of our trip walking to other areas of the city. The Soder neighborhood is very nice, but it's not near the museums or the ferry boats. However, for others the location could be perfect, so I want to make that clear.

The Rival is absolutely amazing. I cannot imagine having stayed anywhere else in Stockholm. It is located across from a great park and there is pretty much nothing touristy about the location. We walked EVERYWHERE from the hotel but there are 2 metro stops very nearby if that is preferred. The only reason it is 4 instead of 5 stars is the lack of temperature control in the room. To be fair, it isn't normal for Stockholm to see a heat wave in the upper 80s but the room got pretty stuffy. They were very helpful and supplied a fan that kept us comfortable enough. The breakfast was perfection - make sure to try the French Toast. Some of the best I've ever had! The staff is incredibly helpful. No question we would stay there again. In fact, I can't imagine considering a single other hotel in Stockholm.

I didn't realize this hotel was famous in Stockholm when I booked it. Nevertheless, it's only a 15-20min walk into the Old Town or it's a 2 minute walk to the metro station (with the absolute best coffee place "Drop" right next door to the Mariatorget station). The hotel staff were incredibly friendly, helpful and accommodating. The cleaning staff is SUPERB (and I have OCD when it comes to cleanliness). My only complaint (hence room comfort and overall rating) was that the mattress was just a pad and not a real mattress, which I found really strange. It was really comfortable and the room was really modern and sleek, but the actual bed just didn't make sense to me. Overall I would HIGHLY recommend it and I will definitely stay here again for my next trip to fair Stockholm. Sidenote: I was here during Gay Pride and it was super convenient to those festivities, as well. With a very knowledgable staff on the happenings associated with that event.

Wonderful hotel in the heart of Stockholm! Close to the old city and walking distance to great bars and restaurants. I'd stay here again in a heartbeat!

The Rival is a great choice for a place to stay in Stockholm. Near Sodermalm with great access to delightful restaurants and bars while at the same time in a quite area with Mariatorget right in front (small park). The staff was super friendly, helpful and knowledgeable... I had not traveled by myself in a while and they made it so easy for me! The rooms are well decorated and spacious. My favorite feature was the bathroom and how you can easily connect your iPod/iPhone/iPad to hear music in the room and bathroom!!! Shower was great and bath, even better. Thank you Rival.

This hotel is obviously an "in" place. It has a snazzy modern interior and is located across the street from a pretty park. It is within walking distance of most tourist highlights and also is very close to subway and bus stops. It's cafe is brimming with locals, the restaurant--while pricey--is very good. They include a truly great breakfast...be sure to order Swedish pancakes. The rooms are small but well appointed with ONE BIG EXCEPTION. The bed we had was awful--soft and broken down. They finally added a bed board...under the thin pillow top... which made it slightly better than sleeping on the floor. Rates seem to vary wildly depending upon how you book. I would give it a higher rating except for the bed.

Excellent in every way: location, staff, room, amenities. I travel quite a lot in Europe and stay in many hotels. I rank this hotel in the very top tier. Each room has a DVD player and a library of movies, with hundreds more available free from the front desk. I found the neighborhood very interesting and nicely located. All in all, a great find.

Characteristic, colourful design is combined to good standard and comfortable stay. The staff was friendly, the room was quiet and cosy, internet connection worked and the breakfast was fantastic.

It's a special hotel in a special city. It's a easy walk to the T-bana (subway) or to Gamla Stan. It's a young city. As my wife says, about every 10th woman looks like Heidi Klum, and I agree completely!! The city is walkable and friendly. [A T-bana ticket taker let us through for free when we didn't have the correct change late at night, saying if anyone questions you, call me here at this booth]. Besides the usual tourist things, go over to Djurgarden and after you see the Vasa Museum, rent some bikes [right beside the bridge]. Ride around the whole island. Our favorite spot, along the canal.

Great Hotel. Although the room was small, it had everything you could ever need and the value was good. They were so friendly and even had a toothbrush and toothpaste for us when we needed it! The beds were also really comfortable and the shower was great.

This is a fabulous hotel, and the one in which I stay whenever I visit Stockholm. If you are not there for business and can stay outside of Normalm, then I would suggest this hotel. It is located on the island of Sodermalm (Soder), within walking distance to everything the energetic Soder has to offer. It is also a short walk to Gamla Stan, Slussen and located near the Mariatorget T station. The staff are amazingly friendly and accommodating, the rooms are clean and comfortable, and the breakfast buffet well stocked. The beds are foolishly comfortable, every room has a flat screen TV and iPod docks, and many have roof access windows. The hotel is located in the quiet neighborhood of Mariatorget, with a park just across the street. Sodermalm has some of the best night life of Stockholm, and also some of the best restaurants. Both Kvarnen and Pelikan, restaurants serving traditional Swedish fare, are located on Soder. There are also an infinite number of diverse restaurants, cafes and small boutiques to be found in Soder. Gotgatan (one of the main roads in Soder) is a five minute walk away from the hotel, and is loaded with great shopping. The hotel also has two lounges, and as a "musician's" hotel, can be host to very interesting guests. Bottom line: I love this hotel, and look forward to returning as often as I can.
