Residence Inn by Marriott Scranton

I stay in the Scranton area on business about 60 days a year. I have stayed at most of the area Hotels, and the Residence Inn Scranton stands well above the others for value for a reasonable price. The great experience starts with the staff, who consistently remember my name and make it a point to make me feel at home. Bernice at the front desk is a great example of this warm hospitality. The location is central in the valley, and the Viewmont Mall is just up the hill from the hotel. The rooms are always spotless and well maintained. The hotel is very family oriented so be prepared to meet dogs and kids who are in residence. For me this makes it feel that much more like home. Great Breakfast set up, and nice social events on many evenings during the week. The only caution is to avoid the end of the hotel which faces the Interstate -- noisy truck traffic most of the night will bother folks sensitive to noise at night. That said, there are newer and more distant hotels in the valley, but none that combine the reliable, friendly environment of this hotel with a very reasonable price.

I have been staying here for several months working a temporary work assignment near by. The staff is personable and greets me by name. I look forward checking in each week and seeing Bernice 's friendly face. They have a great breakfast program and 3 days they have an evening light meal too. Diane does a great job with both. The rooms are good and any time I have a maintenance request they address it quickly. A great place to stay especially for a longer time and if you like more room to stretch out.

I actually had a very nice stay here. It started with Bernice at the front desk. She is very friendly, accommodating and helpful. She’s not bad on the eye either. Lol. The rooms are nice but you can tell they haven’t been updated in a while. I’m not saying they are bad, just not new. Brian and Drew were both a pleasure to deal with as well. Brian went and found the TV and cart for the business meeting room for me immediately and did it with pleasure. I feel it is a good deal for the money. My room had a kitchen with full size fridge and cooktop. I put that to use. The breakfast buffet was also very good. I would gladly stay here again when I return to the area.

Trucks go uphill just to the south of Residence Inn in low gear on I-81 and come down the same way--at many, many decibels. They run all night by room 107 and, one suspects, many others. Hear them shift!! The entrance to the Inn looks like an abandoned staging point for WWII's Operation Overlord--weeds growing from broken concrete. In fact, there's little sign of maintenance inside or outside this Residence Inn. The rooms are quite tastefully decorated in deep forest w/elegant lamps. Still other "housekeeping" chains have outpaced Marriott's lately. The kitchen is minimal but offset by outstanding bed and bedding. We cant remember a more commodious room for sleeping (when there are no trucks.) Do not get your hopes up about the complimentary breakfast. It's best to buy something to microwave at home. And up the hill to the north is a wonderful Wegmans market. For those from further West, this chain is, simply, peerless. This is a great place for dogs. Given the growing scientific evidence of the psychological importance of pets to an increasing number of Americans, one would expect a larger number of Fido welcoming Atlantic seaboard venues.accepting cats and small dogs. One has to go to Wilkes-Barre to find competition for Residence Inn (It also has a centrally located Wegmans.) Scranton is our escape from a frenetic Philly.

We don't travel often much anymore, but I have to say that this hotel was amazing. This is our first time staying at Residence Inn and we will absolutely will book again. We actually may even start traveling more, as your rooms provide every convenience of home.

We stayed in a 1-room suite, the kids complained that the fold-out couch bed was uncomfortable but our King-sized bed was plenty comfortable for us! It was nice having the kitchen in the room, plenty of dishes and cookware if you wanted to cook a full meal. Pool was nice, but a hot tub would be better! Staff were all very friendly and accommodating. Plenty of food for breakfast in the morning. Thanks for a great stay!

Upon arrival at this hotel, we were greeted by Bernice who was helpful and friendly. We asked for a quiet room and we were given room #204, no traffic noise. Thank you Bernice! The suite was a good size with an equipped kitchen and full size fridge. The room was very clean with a comfortable king bed. A large flat screen tv in the room swiveled so that you could easily watch it in the sitting area or the bed. Breakfast was varied with hot and cold selections. The only negative for me was the extremely loud a/c noise. I would definitely stay here again.

This hotel was convenient to traveling through, which was our main objective that night. Our room was next to the elevator, but the walls are sound proof and we never heard the elevator once! Very clean, but the mattress and pillows weren't very comfortable. Over all, satisfied.

Very close to Scranton, but also close to the Mall and many restaurants. Just off 81, so easy to get to. Check in service and breakfast service was great. Breakfast is free, and includes Eggs, Sausage, Bacon., etc. They have a Gym and a pool.

This is the worst Residence Inn we have ever stayed in and is in desperate need of a complete remodel. It features filthy carpet and floor tile grout, entry doors that need refinishing and a parking lot that one has to be careful navigating or else it is easy to tip over your luggage on the uneven surface. In addition, the trash container along the walkway into the hotel was overflowing. Our stay was in July, 2017.
