I was VERY pleased with this hotel. The man at the front desk was very nice and professional. He accommodated my needs as they would come up. The property is very well kept. It's very calm and quiet during the day and peaceful at night. Had no issues whatsoever. The rooms were very clean! I was really impressed. This was actually the first hotel I think I've ever stayed at where I didn't run into any cockroaches, bed bugs, ants, or any other kind of bug thought my entire stay! Everything was in proper working order & clean. In 1 of our rooms we got like a little apartment, it was so cute! A whole kitchen, with gas stove, fridge, microwave, cupboards, sink, lots of counter space... Even a lil island! It came with a kitchen table plus 2 recliner looking like chairs AND a desk & chair in the first half of the kitchen area, which could all be closed off with a door from the sleep area. It had a walk in closet & separate bathroom. The beds were kinda small for my taste but not uncomfortable at all. Being my husband is disabled I would've rather it had a tub/shower combo but the shower itself was pretty good in size for me.

10 minute drive to Boardwalk and downtown area. The motel is basic, clean and reasonably quiet. The swimming pool is a bit desolate. Just a blue hole in the parking lot with no chairs, tables or umbrellas for shade.

When I travel, I prefer to spend my money on experiences, not expensive hotel rooms. I need a clean comfortable room with a safe and reasonable location. The Hitching Post fulfills those requirements for me. I will consider using them again the next time I journey to Santa Cruz and would recommend them for any travelers looking just a room, not a luxury resort.
Shower is extremely small, and shampoo packets looked as if they were from a store bought box of hair dye. There were a bunch of kids playing in the parking lot and were being really noisy early in the morning. Pillows were as flat as pancakes. Only stayed here bc it was a Holiday weekend and everything else was ridiculously priced.
For a 2 star motel it was perfect for a one night travel stay. Would recommend it.
You can't do too much better than this in the area for the price, so go ahead and book--just don't expect anything spectacular, and be prepared for a little night noise and not enough pillows.
I was charged an additional $20 CASH no receipt fee after being charged $100 deposit fee & paying the room. They refused to honor my reservation as it existed.
The motel was older but very clean and quite. I would recommend this unit to any traveler visiting Santa Cruz it was perfect for my family and I.
This was perfect for what i needed. The rooms were clean and quiet, very relaxing. I plan on using them again in the near furure.
The hitching post is just out of down town. It only takes a couple minutes to get to the boardwalk, wharf or downtown. I felt safe and the rooms have a dining room and full kitchen!
