My husband and I had a wonderful 3 day stay at Villas del Rio. Our apartment was exactly what we were looking for, kitchen, living room, nice bedroom, huge walk-in closet, den and a good sized bathroom. We didn't have to use AC because the apartment was situated on the first floor at the back with lots of beautiful shade trees to keep it cool. Open the living room glass and screen door and walk out to a garden path with a bubbling fountain. There is a rushing stream or river right next to the property, it sounds like a waterfall when the screen door is open but otherwise very quiet. The biggest treat was the shower!!!! My husband gave it a 10 out of 5. Ok, well, we do live in Nicaragua so it was a pleasure to have a shower with so much pressure. All the staff was friendly and the people at the front desk were great. They answered all our questions, were more than happy to even help us make a call for take out pizza one rainy evening. The buffet breakfast is included and it's in a lovely setting on the second floor of the lobby. We enjoyed sitting outside on the balcony. The buffet had wonderful fresh fruits, yogurts, cereals, cheeses, cold cuts, a variety of breads for toasting, pastries, jams, butter, cream cheese, juices and coffee. Again, my husband is a bread person and the variety of different breads made his mornings. There are two swimming pools and the ground keepers do a great job with all the flowers and plants. We'll be back for sure.

Apartment was very clean but dated. Close to the location I was visiting. Although the bed was not the most comfortable and the only tv was in the bedroom and not in the living room, I would recommend the hotel and will probably stay on my next trip in March.

The hotel could use a few updates (not much, but it isn't brand new condition), but that does not detract from the fact that it is a very nice place to stay. The rooms are extremely clean. The grounds are very well taken care of. The hotel is walking distance to grocery stores, farmer's market (a must visit), banks, and there is a local bus stop right outside of the gate. Taxis are easily accessible from the gate or the staff will call one. There is 24 hours security, but we never felt the need for it. They are not like a typical hotel in the U.S. They take care of you very well. If you need help changing the safe combination, they don't just give you a piece of paper and tell you good luck, they send someone to take care of it immediately. I can't say enough about the attention they pay to their guests. Eunice at the front desk is great and the housekeeper was fantastic. Do leave a tip for the maid, they deserve it and somehow they make the room sparkle even more when you do. We did not want to leave and would stay here again in a heartbeat. Thank you everyone Villas Del Rio!

The hotel was in a quiet environment, the pool and room was very clean

The place was just as I expected. I stayed in the smallest suite and I was very pleased with the sleeping space and kitchen. The staff was very helpful with inquiries about what to do and how to use the buses. There is a market down the street to buy groceries and plenty of restaurants within walking distance. I barely know Spanish and had no trouble communicating with the staff and commuting to downtown San Jose. The pool and jacuzzi are really nice benefits to relax after a day of touring and the 24 hour store at the facility is convenient for a few snacks and sodas. They reception will even exchange Colones for you, so there is no need to exchange money before you travel to Costa Rica. If I had to complain, I would say that you can hear absolutely everything in the hallways from your suite. You'll be able to hear guests in the hallway and cleaning staff and their carts in the mornings. The air conditioning is almost non-existent, we only had one air con in the bedroom. The weather is actually really pleasant in December and January so cracking the windows felt wonderful. Overall, my stay was lovely and I enjoyed my interactions with the staff. They are very professional and friendly.

They are 2 for 2! Thanks for another great stay. Gym, pool, breakfast, kitchen, quiet. This place has all a fitness traveller needs.

Please stay here if you go to Escazú. The staff, amenities, and atmosphere are second to none. Truly excellent!

We arrived at this hotel late in the night with our two very young kids. it was great to be in a big space after being in airplanes all day. There was plenty of space. It was a clean facility and located near what we needed.

This apartment was great because we were six people and could all be together. However it needs updating. Handle in tub came off in our hand. Couldn't turn off the water until we used a butter knife to screw it back on. Water in the jacuzzi was not hot. Beds were like rocks. We did enjoy the ability to cook our meals. And there was a grocery store within walking distance.

Villas del Rio isn't perfect, but it has everything we needed. There is traffic noise from the street, but if your room is facing away from it, it is fine, so maybe request that. The people who work here are so kind, and have easy smiles. They should all get a raise! Very helpful, and made us feel at home. We felt very safe here. The pool is pretty comfortable, unlike more expensive hotels that seem to add ice water to theirs. Our deal from an online booking company beginning with an "O" included international calls! What a gift to be able to talk to our friends and family without hassle. The rooms are roomy, and the kitchens do include much of what you need to actually cook. Out of 6 Costa Rican hotels so far, this was the only kitchen to come with hot pads. Well done!

We had a Junior Suite which is really a nice place to be called a ¨home away from home¨. This place has a nice breakfast bar and happy hour. The reception desk was very helpful specially Ricardo. He helped us all the time to keep our stay comfortable.

Staff accommodated us well with an extra bed and followed-up on our comfort. The staff seemed to greet everyone with a smile. The breakfast is not the greatest, but it sufficed. Overall, a very good hotel stay.

Our stay here was mainly for dental care. However, we had time for three tours in Costa Rica. The staff were all extremely helpful, kind and fun people to be with. The location was perfect for the dentist and we had our own kitchen, which was very good.

The staff, the location, the amenities.. ufff, great great experience.

Our GPS didn't have this location, but when you drive around, it is on the intersection and has a sign on the hotel saying Villas del Rio. It took me a while to figure out how to get into the hotel as it is gated all the way around and there is no real driveway to go into and no signs that say 'entrance'. The suite itself was good. You could hear your neighbors pretty well though, so it doesn't have the best insulation. They had a nice gym though and a pool we didn't use. The buffet breakfast was good, consisting of fruits, eggs, ham, breads and croissants. Overall good stay.

A wonderful place for holidays or business. The rooms are big and equipped with stove and cooktop, a wonderful detail for vegetarians like me that like to cook their own food. The overall atmosphere was quiet, secure and business like even though there were many tourist and kids/teenagers. The stuff was impeccable and friendly and made me feel like a king. Do not skip the delicious breakfast buffet!

Hotel was nice, very large rooms, close to everything. They have contracted to have all kinds of food delivered if you want. My only complaint was pillows were very hard.

Good. Nice staff, all included in the fare (taxes, shuttle, breakfast, internet) Bad. Some problems with Internet, a lot of noise of the street enters the rooms.

I stayed at the Aparthotel-Villas Del Rio in San Jose, Costa Rica for a few days and the location was very convenient to everything. The staff was friendly and courteous and the room was immaculate. A little short on bathroom counter space but all in all a very good value. I would stay there again.

The hotel is beautiful, and the rooms are very spacious. Everything was very clean and, in fact, the rooms looked like they'd been recently renovated... everything except the shower in the bathroom which was the only thing that didn't look like it was straight from a store showroom. The staff were very friendly, and the hotel felt very safe with a guard on watch at the front gate, who controlled the gate. The breakfast the next morning was really good with lots of choices of fresh fruit and cheese and breads, cereal... there was a lot to choose from and everything looked very fresh. The pool was very nice - very clean, and the water was pretty warm. Internet WiFi didn't work in our room (and it wasn't user error :) ), but it should have (I could see the signal) but I was too shy to mention it to the staff and it worked fine in the lobby and up by the pool so that was good enough. The location of the hotel is along a very busy street, and although there wasn't a lot of street noise, it was a little intimidating pulling out onto the street and walking was a challenge (the sidewalks abruptly ended... but it is San Jose and that's not too unusual...) Overall, we were very very pleased by the hotel, and we had a great stay and I would recommend it to anyone... although I thought the hotel was a bit pricey for the area and if you don't need a super big apartment, there are cheaper places that are almost as nice.
