I live in Monteverde every couple of months I go down to the Central Valley to meet with my family (who visits from South America) and do errands (doctors, shopping etc). I travel with my two kids and husband and we love it here. It is close to where I do my errands and love the surrounding areas. The kids love the kids park that is about a 5 minute walk away. There is a cinema, tons of restaurants and stores surrounding the hotel. The staff is just lovely and the breakfast is great. They just recently opened a restaurant so that is awefully helpful for the days we come back late! It is truly my home away from home. We will be going back May 2017!!

I stayed 3 nights April 1-3 at the Residence Inn by Marriott in Escazu San Jose Costa Rica. Sara, Jeison, and Honse at the front desk were excellent and professional. The hotel is the best Residence Inn I have ever stayed in and I am Platinum Marriott.

I recently went on vacation to Costa Rica, flying into SJO. Spent two nights here before going to our condo rental on the Pacific Coast. The hotel is about 5-6 miles from SJO airport. Although the cab ride can take over an hour in the crazy no rules driving. A cab from the airport runs about $30-40. You can Uber for less than $15. The hotel exceeded my expectations! Incredibly modern, stylish, clean and centrally located in an attractive plaza with many restaurants and high-end shops. Satellite T.V. with American programming, free Wifi. A roof top pool and gym. There's Starbucks across from the back door. Even an Outback Steakhouse, TGIF, Tony Roma's, Denny's, and Wal-Mart within a few minutes uber ride. Honestly, it felt more like we were on a street in Beverly Hills Rodeo Dive than just 5 miles or less from somewhat unappealing and seedy downtown San Jose! Staff were exceptionally friendly and professional. Their welcome to the hotel was above and beyond. Anytime we encountered them, they smiled, said good day, and were eager to assist to any need or question that we had. There was even a personalized hand written welcome message left on our bed, with another written on the bathroom mirror! We felt like we were at the Ritz, not the Residence Inn! The breakfast was o.k. They had an omelette chef to custom make your eggs. Cereal, yogurt, waffle maker, scrambled eggs, ham, plantains, fruit, oatmeal, bland Tico Rice and beans, etc. There's also shopping mall next door with a small grocery store on the second floor. If you desire, you can cook in your room's fully equipped kitchen. No micro-fridge, but a full sized one. As well as a four burner stove top, toaster, microwave, plates/silver wear/glasses/pots and pans/cooking utensils, and a dishwasher. Escazu is an upper-class suburban community with a large expat and European community. Never felt unsafe anywhere in Escazu. However, this hotel is located in the mentioned plaza. There's one main street where the mall, food court. shops and restaurants are located next to the hotel. The entire area is gated off, and 24 hour armed security patrols the entire fenced in area, as well as all the entry points to the area. Aside from the front door, you must have a room key-card to enter the hotel. In the afternoon and evenings, artists, street musicians, singers, and even a brass big band performed along the sidewalks. We had a great stay here! I wouldn't hesitate to stay again. Especially great for business travelers. All the comforts of home. It's your our own personal apartment. Only had two minor issues. The day we checked out, we needed to go back to SJO airport to get the rental car at Thrifty.Car Rental (There's two airports here. One is the secondary domestic airport. If you say you want to go to San Jose airport, locals think you want to go the domestic. Not SJO, which is the International airport) I told the check out rep that we needed a cab to Thifty Rental Car at 'San Jose International' airport. Nobody had ever heard of Thrifty! The cab came, but he had to call his dispatcher to ask where to go? Then ask another cabbie. After twenty minutes, we were on our way. Halfway there, we encountered a road block due to a street festival. The driver told us there was no other way to go. Route was blocked. He than abandoned us, ran down the street and disappeared for 15 minutes looking for help with an alternative route. Then we realized that the cab driver was trying to take us to the domestic airport! My specific request for Thrifty at SJO airport had somehow not been translated. Our cab ride back in the right direction cost $60 instead of $30. The second issue regards being a smoker. Of course, the hotel is non-smoking, -as most are these days- However, having a quick puff wasn't as easy as going out the door. Within less than a minute of lighting up, non-hotel affiliated security guards would come by on their Segway's and direct you to go outside the fenced in plaza area. They'd actually follow you there! Whenever you needed to smoke, you had to go outside the fence to the dark, abandoned alleys and side streets outside the fence. Apparently, there's a national law that prohibits smoking in all public areas? Didn't expect to come to the developing world and find it harder to find a place to smoke a cigarette than it is somewhere like California or NY? It was ridiculous! It was easier late at night when you could go to the rooftop pool when nobody was there, instead of walking a couple hundred yards just to have a smoke!

I can't say enough good things about the Residence Inn, San Jose, Escazu! The hotel is clean and comfortable, inside and out. The staff is wonderful! The friendly faces of Cesar and Melissa at the front desk, Ronny and Joice in the lounge, Maria and Marlen taking care of us at breakfast, Anita, Hayley and Marie taking care of my room. I didn't catch everyone's name but all were super welcoming and really wanted your stay to be wonderful. I've stayed here twice on business trips and both stays were great! If I have the opportunity to go to CR again, this is where I'll stay!

I was here on business and found the hotel to be perfect; clean, comfortable, and the staff was very accommodating. The room was spacious, and just so spotless clean that it was just amazing! I like the location; very centrally located with lots of shops, but quiet at night for a good sleep.

Was a great stay. Clean, comfortable, in the staff was very friendly and helpful. Joice and Ronny that work in the bar, were nice guys. Enjoyed talking to them and learning about the area. I would go back to this hotel.

I was sad that my visit to Costa Rica was only for 3 days. This hotel is fantastic!!! the accommodations are great. What makes it even better are the people. So much so that I wrote their names down to thank them.At checking MARCO made me feel at home. He was super attentive and friendly. I felt like I was visiting a friends house. I had dinner and breakfast at BAR 506- WOW!!! great food and Joise, Ronny, and Efrain became my friends. It is great to eat here with such nice service. Sadly at checkout time, I got to meet Montserrat and Melissa. These two ladies were very nice and professional. I hope works brings me back to CR but if not I would return just to visit these beautiful people and stay at this hospitable hotel. LOVE IT!!!! Pura vida. I forgot, the taxi service our driver Eduardo fantastic, clean car, attentive and a gentleman. I wish many other countries would take note of how these team is doing it. Marriott this team deserves A+++.

Wow. I stay in Marriott's on a weekly basis for work in the US, and this has to be the nicest Residence Inn I've stayed at. It's brand new, spotless, has a much better and bigger breakfast than most, and is located right on Avenida Escazu, which has so many restaurants you'll read raves about in the city (Product C, La Divina Comida, etc). It really doesn't feel like a typical residence inn from the US would - it feels extremely upscale, has floor to ceiling windows on each floor by the elevator, has a bar (that sometimes makes juices for breakfast), and even a french restaurant attached to it. We did several tours during our time in San Jose (and later stayed more in the heart of downtown), but I have to say that everyone coming to San Jose should check out Avenida Escazu, and if your travels bring you to the area, this is the hotel to stay in. Our tour buses drove past some of the other popular Escazu hotels (eg. the Intercontinental), but I have to say the Residence Inn has far and away the best walking options, and the brand new modernity is hard to beat. Finally, they were extremely friendly here - much more so than most chain hotels are in the world. Lots of extra and awesome perks if you're a platinum member (I won't ruin the surprises), and a general mindset of helpfulness and incredible hospitality. For the spotless and huge rooms, floor to ceiling windows on each floor, huge free breakfast, workout and pool facilities, and the best location in Escazu, I would give this hotel 5 stars all the way.

I rarely give a hotel 5 stars. My rating here is not because this is a luxury hotel with lots of upscale lounge space. It's because the staff is incredibly warm and welcoming. I'm staying for 3 weeks in a small suite, but after 24 hours, I love this place. First, the suite. It's not large, but very comfortable, with a small kitchenette that has 2 electric burners, a microwave, a refrigerator and a DW. Perfectly fine for small cooking jobs. But you don't need anything for breakfast, because it's included and extensive. Second, the breakfast staff. There are many choices of eggs, waffles, rice, fruit, cereal, etc., as well as an omelet making station. I didn't like the eggs and when a waiter came to ask if everything was ok (that alone was unusual), I asked if the eggs were artificial. He said he'd check and 5 minutes later the chef himself came out to ask what was wrong. He was so nice that I hated to say I didn't like the flavor. So he told me to either have my eggs specially prepared at the omelet station or to ask for him to make them for him. Wow! Third, there are guest snacks every Wednesday and Friday night: sandwiches, pizza rounds, soup, sausage, cheese and olive tidbits, and chocolat tarts from about 5:30-7:30. Since I had had lunch, that was my evening meal, along with a glass of wine from the bar. And very pleasant staff who came to chat with me. I speak Spanish but all of the staff speak excellent English. The receptionist had a complete American accent. I understand that the restaurant at night is pretty good, but haven't tried it yet. There is a full bar. Add to this that parking is free and there are shops and many restaurants within a 5 minute walk down Avenida Escazu, and this is just such a great place to stay.

This is our 3rd time at the property in the past year. Great location next to the Multi Plaza mall, restaurants, bars, a hospital and the SJO airport. We're always cordially greeted by the friendly staff of Cesar, Melissa and Paula, who call you by your first name. During the buffet breakfast, these awesome woman bring you whatever you want from the service stations. Paula is also knowledgeable of the surrounding area and Costa Rica. We love this hotel and people and will be back. Thanks again.
