The hotel better yet motel was a mess . I would not recommend it to anyone. Checkout my courtyard view.

I read in the reviews that this hotel was undergoing renovation but we did not hear or see any renovation during our overnight stay. Our room on the first floor is very dated and the odor in the hallway and room was overpowering which bothered me the entire night. The room carpet was old and stained, the room furniture was dated nd the chair seat was worn and torn. The room temperature could not be changed. Room price was reasonable for its location but hotel parking is comparatively high.

For its price this was an excellent deal! Nice boutique hotel, but old and noisy as undergoing renovations. Staff were incredible, really excellent. Recognizing that the area isn't the best - it being on the edge of the Tenderloin district - I would definitely stay there again. You just have to get instructions as to where to walk. Parking is very expensive though.

Our room was outside of the hotel, our view was the parking lot. It felt like we were staying at a motel as for the view. Parking was an additional $45!!!! Outrageous. The room was clean and staff and was great.

Our first hotel room was a dark dungeon of a room with window that viewed a fire escape and a ledge with tons of pigeon poo. It was depressing and disgusting. Thankfully, the staff moved us to a room on another floor that was much brighter and cleaner. Still a lot of construction noise from across the street. Overall, the staff was pleasant but the hotel location and views are nothing to write home about.

Check-in was prompt and efficient. The staff was ready to answer all questions (finding the exercise room was not so easy). They also arranged for the airport shuttle pick-up, which was reliable and very reasonably priced. I was fully satisfied with the breakfast on the two days I was up in time. The hotel is a bit of a hike from the Civic Center BART stop, but very conveniently located for the opera or symphony, and late-night food and drink are right next door and across the street.

Room is old and needs new linen, pillows and just old! Smelled funky and not worth $340 a night

Very nice hotel with very friendly staff. The location isn't the best but inside the environment is perfect. They also had complementary breakfast, and it was very large with many options to choose from. Would stay there again if I came back to town. Overall would give it 4/5 stars.

The room was smaller than I expected, however it could easily accommodate our family of five. It had two queen beds and a sofa bed. Since most of our day was spent outdoors, the small size was not a major issue. We always arrived to find the room neat and clean. Great house keeping staff. The best thing about the hotel was its location. We could easily access public transportation a few yards from the hotel. We could get to all the major attractions in about 20 minutes. Plenty of eateries close to the hotel. On the flip side, there was only a single bathroom with a small sink. There was no microwave or fridge. Also, the hotel is outdated as far as style goes.

The hotel is well kept and staff was so helpful in letting us know we're everything was and how to get there. Beds were very comfortable. They had big selection of breakfast food that was constantly being put out. I would definitely stay there again.

I needed an inexpensive hotel to stay at that was centrally located but not that central (IE: The TL) and I found it at The Opal. Not fancy, generally clean, some deferred maintenance, friendly people.

We got a 99.00 night rate for 2 adults 2 double beds. The staff was very nice and accomodating, hotel is old and has a charm to it. Rooms are basic and very clean. They offer a breakfast in the morning 0630-1000 with breads, pastries, fruit, yogurt, hard boiled eggs, coffee & juice and coffee is available in the lobby 24 hrs. There is a diner attached which we didn't eat at but would have if we had more time and there is a Whole foods, spirits store and CVS within a few blocks which are convenient if you don't have a car. The location is not in the middle of tourist areas but not too far, we used Uber everywhere. Overall the hotel is a bargain for what they offer and I would stay there again and recommend.

I've stayed in this hotel many times. It's always been pleasant, with comfortable rooms, courteous people, and satisfactory breakfasts. The muni stops are less than a block away.

The Opal has been a good hotel to count on for a decent place to stay at one of the best prices In the City. There is currently a lot of construction across the street, but it didn't bother us a bit. It's nice to know that there is still a good affordable hotel in San Francisco that we can count on. One additional note, the ADA rooms are wonderful! The roll in shower is great, the accessible sink in the bathroom is the perfect height with room under the sink for your legs!

Hallways to narrow and uneven for disabled. Cost of parking, no public parking. Noisey. Doors difficult to open too heavy. Would not recommend.

They let people know what we are doing right and let us know what we need to work on. I am sorry to read about the issues you had with your toilet and your view of the courtyard. We are remodeling and renovating our 109 year old building to improve these sort of things. I will definitely look into who cleaned your room as finding a hair on your sheets is something we frown upon greatly as we would not want to sleep in a bed with a hair in it. And they also let us know what we need to work on. Thank you for all the kind words you said regarding our complimentary continental breakfast and our staff. Our renovations include all new carpeting as well as an upgrade on our décor and all new furniture. We do try to charge competitively for our on-site secured and gated parking with personal remote and 24 hour in and out access but I understand how it can seem high. I'm sorry we could not help you with your thermostat. Our Housepersons have been trained to help guests with any AC issues and I'm sorry to hear that you were not helped.Thank you again for taking the time to write.I hope you have a great day.

edge of tenderloin district, nice boutique hotel

motel feel

Our room was outside of the hotel, our view was the parking lot. It felt like we were staying at a motel as for the view. Parking was an additional $45!!!! Outrageous. The room was clean and staff and was great.

We do try to price reasonably for our limited secured on site parking in comparison to other hotels. I'm sorry that the guest service staff did not tell you about the other less expensive alternatives nearby (there are a few parking structures within a few blocks of the hotel that charge $32 and $28 per night but do not have 24 hour in and out privileges as we do). I'm glad to read the room was clean and that the staff was great. I hope you have a wonderful week.
