Hotel Domus Romana4.0 out of 5.0

We visited Rome in August 2017, firstly i wouldn't recommend anyone to visit at this time of year as it is packed with tourists and the heat makes it unbearable to walk in. The hotel is situated about 15 min walk away from the Spanish steps and Trevi, although about an hour walk from the Vatican. So in terms of location - the hotel was pretty good. Although i wouldn't expect anything fancy, the rooms were clean and good sized although i wish i could say the same for the shower as it was tiny and quite dated. The air con was also poor, it barely kicked any air out and wouldn't turn up. The internet was fine when i stayed and worked well in my room. The staff were friendly and helpful and made up for the dated decor. The hotel has a courtyard which is pretty and lovely to sit in on a night with cheap drinks! The breakfast was also well accommodating and had a little bit of everything! Definitely not a 4 star but acceptable for a short stay in Rome!
The staff was very helpful and nice on our visit to Rome. The location isn't the best but it is about a 10 minute walk from the Colosseum and located next to the metro. The rooms were clean and beds were comfortable.
Had a lovely stay at this hotel, in an excellent central location close to Trevi Fountain, Spanish Steps and Colosseum. Very clean, and lovely bar terrace where you can also have breakfast. Downsides - rather small bathroom which could do with updating, a bit noisy as close to the Via Nationale and Wifi intermittent.
Loved this hotel! Perfect for all groups- couples/families/friends/business. Set very central just off the Nationale road and with some excellent restaurants nearby. Great lobby area with picturesque courtyard! Only blighted by annoying pigeons which you have to waft away. Rooms have bags of character with amazing ceilings! Bathroom very clean and modern. No wifi in my room, but good quality down stairs in lobby area. Thank you for my stay!
I ADVISE EVERYONE NOT TO STAY HERE False advertising springs to mind. Don't be drawn in by the photos and description, they're very dated. Believe me, all is not what it seems. 1. The courtyard is unclean, some of the furniture is made of wooden pallets with soft furnishings, which were in desperate need of a good wash. There's an unsavoury drain, which attracts mosquitos, I fell victim to 13 bites. 2. The room we stayed in was like a sweat box, (air-con was pitiful). Carpet was wet on arrival (shampooed) stayed that way the 4 days we were there. Unsavoury smell and generally felt unclean. The shutters on the windows were falling apart, we were worried if we touched them, they would fall to the street below. The curtains were shabby, the bedding was basic and the bed was so hard you could bounce a coin off it. The bathroom window wouldn't close and the handle kept falling off, the rail that held the shower head was loose. Not the least bit like the photos depicted. Definitely in desperate need of an overhaul. 3. Terrace? What Terrace? We enquired how to get to it and were informed, as we weren't permanent residents, we couldn't use it. We were unaware that the hotel is also a residence, they don't say that in the description. 4. Even though the WiFi is free, it's hit and miss..... Mainly miss! The only good points were the location and ease for sightseeing and the lovely bar/restaurant we found around the corner. I was so upset and felt like I had been short changed. We most certainly will not be returning.
If you're looking for a quaint, charming hotel close to everything in Rome, this is hotel is for you. If you're looking for solid air conditioning and wifi that consistently works; it's probably not the best place. Location couldn't be beat, but it really could do with some upgrades to make more comfortable and just to freshen up a bit.
We recently stayed in the Domus Romana for a night on the front end and a night on the back end of an 8 day visit to Italy. The views of the neighborhood from the rooms are great! Both rooms we stayed in had a balcony and there were extremely large common rooftop areas that had beautiful views of the surrounding neighborhood. It is probably a 10 minute walk to the Spanish steps and 15 minute walk to the Trevi Fountain. All in all, very centrally located! The hotel also has a charming courtyard right outside the dining area which serves a nice breakfast selection. The staff was very friendly and spoke very good English. The only negatives I can give are that the air conditioning couldn't keep up with the 90F (33C) temperatures so I sweated during the day and evening in the hotel. And we could never get the WiFi to work, except down in the lobby near the business center nook.
We had this hotel booked for us for my 50th birthday and it was a great choice. Ideally located just 20 minutes walk from Colosseum and Forum, 15 minutes to Trevi Fountain and Spanish Steps and an enjoyable 40 minute walk to the Vatican. Very friendly staff and good sized rooms. Would certainly return
We stayed at this hotel for a long weekend, Friday to Monday in a quadruple classic room (1 separate double room and 1 double sofa bed in the sitting room), booked as a package through BA. The room was a very good size for a family of four, was air conditioned, had a fridge and even cooking facilities if so needed. The hotel is very well situated for all the main sites. It is more or less a 10 minute walk to anything of note - Republicca station, Termini, Trevi fountain, Pantheon etc. The entrance is very conspicuous and indeed we walked the entire length of the street a couple of times without spotting it before realising it had a number, 113, and then we found it. There is a nice courtyard bar for drinks or just relaxing in during the day. The restaurant serves a simple yet decent breakfast that we all enjoyed. There's not so much in the way of food at other times of the day, but one thing Rome isn't short of is good places to eat so this isn't really a problem. The staff were excellent and courteous, all spoke excellent English. Overall, I can't fault this hotel and were we to visit Rome again would definitely consider this hotel again for our stay.
We chose this hotel as it was recommended to us , what a good choice. It was very central. The staff on reception and the staff in the courtyard were excellent , made us feel most welcome at all times . Would definitely return again . Breakfast in the morning was good and a good few choices. Enjoyed the courtyard after a day of sightseeing when we could sit a relax with a drink . The rooms were fine and very clean. Hope to be back soon.
