Visited from Brownsville, TX for 7 days in July - Hotel is very nice with a fabulous & safe location but it is the staff throughout that made the stay so great. From the front desk personnel, bartenders, restaurant personnel, to the people cleaning the rooms & raking the sand by the beach EVERYONE we came in contact with was pleasant, attentive, warm, and approached their tasks with a clear sense of pride. Like visiting anywhere, there were a few oddities such as electrical switches that had to be set in a particular sequence to allow the ceiling fan to work and a few quirkie minor "rule" type issues that are laughable but overall a wonderful experience.

This is our third visit in four years to the Riu Palace Riviera Maya. We have enjoyed every stay. The hotel is beautiful with very good all inclusive food options. Drinks are good for all inclusive, as well. The beach area is one of the best we have ever been to. There are plenty of chairs, the water is so clean and blue so getting in is perfect and walking it is enjoyably too. The staff at this hotel is exceptional. They work so hard to make your stay relaxing and carefree. The entertainment staff is fun and friendly. Some of the nightly shows are great and some not, but it's all part of the experience so give them a try. The Riu Palace Riviera Maya is nicely located. You walk out of it going either direction for something to do. One way you'll get to go to the other Rius for breakfast or lunch or shops down the street. There is a fun area for pictures too. If you go out the other direction you can walk or take a short cab ride where you will be on 5th Avenue for some great chain store or local shopping. One caveat to first timers is that some of the vendors will try to get you in to their shops by telling you they recognize you from the Riu Palace and they were your waiter last night, etc. They don't really recognize you they're just seeing your Riu wristband and using it to their advantage. :) The shops on 5th are fun and there are many dining options. Cons - Hotel needs to repair the large pool as many tiles are coming off. Tile floors in rooms get very slippery.

Had a good time but got ripped off from the Scuba Caribe station that is next to the pool of $224.00. This hotel used to be a lot more fun but not this time. And definitely ALOT MORE WHINY KIDS!! Next time I will look for an ADULTS ONLY hotel!!

This place has a very nice beach, and the staff is wonderful!! On the other hand it was mostly older couples and a lot of smokers (everywhere).

We love this place. We only had a problem with the flushing of the toilet and we were not at garden view. But the restaurants are amazing and there is plenty to do in the resort. I would come again :)

Our 3rd trip to RIU Palace Riveria Maya and this was best so far. Great food, drink and staff!!!

We went for our honeymoon and it was the best experience and service we have received. Buffet was the best coacktails. Over resort was fun an plus there activities kept us intact.

Faboulous spectacukar amazing attentive staff beautiful accomodations restaurants onsite no reservarions required recommend the steakhouse open air with views of the beach carribean lobster was delicious

My recent stay at the RIU in Riviera Maya was great!! The staff and their hospitality was above and beyond!! I only had a few things that were a little disappointing. First if anyone is handicap this is not the place to go, there is only one elevator in the whole hotel. There were only three floors but everything was only accessible by stairs., having asthma it took me numerous days to get used to the humidity which was very difficult getting up/down the stairs. Second, there are only two bathrooms in the common areas of the hotel. One at the front of the hotel, and one at the pool area of the hotel. Third, the hotel lobby which is usually the hub of a hotel is not on the main floor of the rest of the hotel. Lastly, the ocean is very rough in this particular spot so, although it is very close it is really not an ideal area to be swimming. The food, service, and hospitality was phenomenal!!

Toilot broke 4 times. Does not live upto Riu standards and definitely not for the price of $575/nt I paid.

Fell in love with this place and the staff. Food was good quality and lots of variety. Enjoyed just being poolside.

The staff are fantastic, you will not want for anything. Pools are gorgeous, and beach is clean and white.

Hotel increible, personal super predispuesto, siempre con una sonrisa y muy serviciales. Un ejemplo!

Pros: Staff was very friendly and accomadating. Food was good. Situated well with respect to the beach. Nice room. Cons: A lot of hotel sponsored drinking/drunkeness and partying during the day until late at night. Constant very very loud music as if you were at a college spring break party in Florida. We could not escape the bedlam. Not the place to go if you want a quiet peaceful restful experience.

Beach/pool area beautiful. We really enjoyed the activities offered around the pool...water aerobics, games, people watching. We were there over Valentines Day and they provided special evening festivities, roses for the women, photos with "Cupid ", music, dining "extras"...only negative is distance from airport.

The hotel is old style luxury from the grounds to the excellent food selection. The location is gated but a walk away into town. Our family has stayed at many locations and would rate this total Hotel, Service, and location number 1.

Took the family down there for a week long holiday trip---first time we've been to this particular property. Will go back again---very nice property, great beach, great service from staff, and easy (and safe) walk to Playa Del Carmen should you want to venture out of the resort. We liked the more traditional stately design of this resort, with the grand lobby and beautifully landscaped courtyard area. For golfers, the pro shop and first tee of the Hard Rock Golf Club is literally just across the street. Night life options on the property are limited, but the close proximity to Playa Del Carmen should satisfy those looking to whoop it up into the late evening.

the riu palace Riviera maya is a great vacation. safe comfortable environment in a gated community surrounded by a community of private homes and townhouses. right on the absolutely beautiful warm watered beaches. food is abundant, and the staff is amazingly accommodating. the rooms are large, yet need some work. we have been there 4 years now, and the mirror in the bathroom is rusted and the shower curtain ripped. the outlets couldn't hold our phone or ipad chargers otherwise the balcony is large and refreshing to sit out on day or balmy night. there is an outside lounging area that you can listen to nightly music performed by the local bands.

I've stayed at numerous RIUs and this one is by far the best yet! Aside from the great location and breathtakingly beautiful beach, the hotel was very clean and the staff top notch! The wait staff were very attentive and went out of their way to continually please us. We really enjoyed the 24 hour room service as we are early risers and enjoyed hot coffee and rolls first thing in the morning -- well before the restaurant opened Although 5th Ave in Playa Del Carmen is a 'must see', we preferred the slower pace and friendlier shops in Playa Car -- outside the RIU Palace Riviera Maya and to the left, a short stroll down the street. The ferry to Cozumel was a worthwhile trip. There are 3 different ferries -- we traveled round trip on UltraMar. It offers live music and drinks. Great fun! We also did a one day excursion -- Akumal (swiming with the turtles), Tulum (Mayan Ruins) , and Cenotes (open caverns/aqua firs). Plan ahead as they need at least 24 hours in advance. This excursion was 7:30am - 3:00pm with Coba Sunset Tours -- small 10 person group, much better than the bigger 45- 55 person tours.

Everything went so smooth. The staff could not have been any more professional and pleasant. The only thing that could have been better were some of the shows.
