Toilot broke 4 times. Does not live upto Riu standards and definitely not for the price of $575/nt I paid.

Fell in love with this place and the staff. Food was good quality and lots of variety. Enjoyed just being poolside.

The staff are fantastic, you will not want for anything. Pools are gorgeous, and beach is clean and white.

Hotel increible, personal super predispuesto, siempre con una sonrisa y muy serviciales. Un ejemplo!

Pros: Staff was very friendly and accomadating. Food was good. Situated well with respect to the beach. Nice room. Cons: A lot of hotel sponsored drinking/drunkeness and partying during the day until late at night. Constant very very loud music as if you were at a college spring break party in Florida. We could not escape the bedlam. Not the place to go if you want a quiet peaceful restful experience.

Beach/pool area beautiful. We really enjoyed the activities offered around the pool...water aerobics, games, people watching. We were there over Valentines Day and they provided special evening festivities, roses for the women, photos with "Cupid ", music, dining "extras"...only negative is distance from airport.

The hotel is old style luxury from the grounds to the excellent food selection. The location is gated but a walk away into town. Our family has stayed at many locations and would rate this total Hotel, Service, and location number 1.

Took the family down there for a week long holiday trip---first time we've been to this particular property. Will go back again---very nice property, great beach, great service from staff, and easy (and safe) walk to Playa Del Carmen should you want to venture out of the resort. We liked the more traditional stately design of this resort, with the grand lobby and beautifully landscaped courtyard area. For golfers, the pro shop and first tee of the Hard Rock Golf Club is literally just across the street. Night life options on the property are limited, but the close proximity to Playa Del Carmen should satisfy those looking to whoop it up into the late evening.

the riu palace Riviera maya is a great vacation. safe comfortable environment in a gated community surrounded by a community of private homes and townhouses. right on the absolutely beautiful warm watered beaches. food is abundant, and the staff is amazingly accommodating. the rooms are large, yet need some work. we have been there 4 years now, and the mirror in the bathroom is rusted and the shower curtain ripped. the outlets couldn't hold our phone or ipad chargers otherwise the balcony is large and refreshing to sit out on day or balmy night. there is an outside lounging area that you can listen to nightly music performed by the local bands.

I've stayed at numerous RIUs and this one is by far the best yet! Aside from the great location and breathtakingly beautiful beach, the hotel was very clean and the staff top notch! The wait staff were very attentive and went out of their way to continually please us. We really enjoyed the 24 hour room service as we are early risers and enjoyed hot coffee and rolls first thing in the morning -- well before the restaurant opened Although 5th Ave in Playa Del Carmen is a 'must see', we preferred the slower pace and friendlier shops in Playa Car -- outside the RIU Palace Riviera Maya and to the left, a short stroll down the street. The ferry to Cozumel was a worthwhile trip. There are 3 different ferries -- we traveled round trip on UltraMar. It offers live music and drinks. Great fun! We also did a one day excursion -- Akumal (swiming with the turtles), Tulum (Mayan Ruins) , and Cenotes (open caverns/aqua firs). Plan ahead as they need at least 24 hours in advance. This excursion was 7:30am - 3:00pm with Coba Sunset Tours -- small 10 person group, much better than the bigger 45- 55 person tours.

Everything went so smooth. The staff could not have been any more professional and pleasant. The only thing that could have been better were some of the shows.

We've been staying at this hotel for years. We love the hotel and employees. They have the best employees. The food is excellent. This time we took 15 additional family members and we had a blast. We are planning another trip soon.

It was an experience from beginning to end. The staff was helpful and always there for information. Again, as soon as we left, we missed the hotel.

we had a wonderful time the hotel and staff wore excellent

Beautiful excellent staff great food very clean excellent all around

nice hotel, nice beach, sand , pool. food can be improved - similar menu every day

Overall great experience for our first time in Mexico, hotel staff are very friendly and helpfull, we went to Tulum and also went snorkeling it was amazing, Playa del Carmen night life is insanely fun and only 5 minutes from the hotel by taxi. Went to La Vaquita and Mandala lots of fun couldn't go to Coco Bongo but we'll definitely do next time also the hotel food was really reallygood and we only ate at the buffet.Hotel grounds arr immaculate but is a lil bit old not much to do at night but you can go to the others Riu's hotels but is much better La 5ta Avenida(5th ave) the people in the town are very friendly and we felt safe.

The worst vacation I've ever had. The hotel was dirty with cockroaches in our room and you see them in the hallway by the dining room. The bathroom in the room was dirty upon arrival and even after it got "cleaned" daily, the toilet was still dirty. The linens and everything was outdated. Not even an alarm clock in the room. The pool bar staff was extremely rude to the guests. We went on a family trip with our 2 toddlers and will not recommend this place. I've stayed at other Riu's in the past, but this one was the worst. The food was good and waiters were super nice to everyone. We all got sick from eating there the whole week though, All 7 days dying in the bathroom. The pool was always dirty with dead bugs among other things. And upon arrival no one directed us or even greeted us as you are supposed while on vacation. We were lost going from place to place and everyone kept giving us wrong directions as we are carrying our tired toddlers and luggage. Awful experience altogether. The place needs new management for sure and lots of renovations . Also the beer selection was terrible since they didn't have any but 1 kind of beer. We just couldn't wait to get back to NY after seeing the cockroaches in our room and near the kitchen. Do NOT spend your money there, there's plenty of other hotels that are nicer in the area. The beach was the only beautiful thing . We stayed from Sept 10-17. Once again, would NOT recommend this RIU to families or just anyone who wants a clean hotel.
