DoubleTree by Hilton Hotel Portland

3.5 out of 5.0

Recent guest reviews

I stayed there for one night after landing at the airport and heading off to look at the foliage and one night at the end of that trip. Both times, the staff was very welcoming and both rooms were in great condition. The bed was very comfortable and the breakfast was good as well.

convenient to sights in s portland and commercial st. in portland. very nice

Close to Maine mall and airport. Staff was very friendly!!! Room was spacious. Would stay there again.

Super comfy bed, large room, very quiet!! Right across the street from the mall and just as inexpensive as much lesser hotels.

Traffic noise was a little annoying. The hotel is bordered by an interstate on one side and a large mall on the other.

it was ok. would like to get to pool without going through lobby and restaurant

Great hotel, friendly desk staff, clean and spacious rooms. What you would expect from a Doubletree.

Stayed here after attending a concert. Room was clean and staff was friendly

When we reported a hairy used soap bar in our shower, the clerk inferred that we were a third party payee and shouldn't expect more. At our insistence you were contacted and we received a rebate for which we are appreciative. From then on, our maid service was poor.

9/19/14 - The hotel experience was fun and pleasant. The only complaint I would have was the pool room. I admit the night was cold ouside...38..., but I expected when I entered the pool area the air would be warm. The ceiling vent was blowing cool air. We had to stay in the water the whole time, because the air in the pool area was so chilly. Pool was very clean and the area was clean...just chilly.

It was a nice hotel. It was clean. It needed a little updating. The bathroom was small. It wasn't top shelf as you would expect a Doubletree property to be.

The staff at the front desk was not helpful. Didn't know what was available in the restaurant at a late hour, nor did they know about off site restaurants.

Before even arriving, I received a torrent of abuse from SWMBO because of the price for the two rooms -- twice what any of the other hotels on the same strip were charging. We were told that to get adjoining rooms we would be in the West tower. Found after the lengthy walk that the rooms were nearby but not adjoining. Rooms feature a motion-detector in the thermostat, not sure how it is triggered but it took quite a while to get the kids' room down to habitable level. Our room featured torn wallpaper, with some crayon illustrations; hairs of at least three different people in the bathtub, mildew in the corner of the shower tiles. Greatest irony: having a $50 charge for incidentals for each room put on my credit card, only to find that the only possible "incidental" charge would be the $3.50 for the solitary Poland Spring bottle of water. There is a bar between the towers but it was never open. No food service apparently available (but there was a fellow in an office with signage indicating that he was director of food services; maybe his salary explains the rack rate?). Bottom line: don't let brand affinity steer you into this place unless you are desperate for a room near the airport.

We just wanted a couple days off as a family together. Hotel was great, enjoyed the pool and fitness center. Breakfast cafe was great as well. Location is just by the mail and many restaurants. Beaches withing half hour too.

Convient location, good staff, and quiet sleeping!

My wife and I wanted to visit Portland ME as she'd never been, and I was always working on my past visits. We knew it would have excellent seafood as well as wonderful views of the ocean. We had attended our grandson's HS graduation in Baltimore, MD and thought it the perfect time too continue on to Maine. And we wanted to visit before the tourists showed up. It worked. We had the place to ourselves. Excellent. And my wife's lobster dinner in the hotel restaurant was perfect. I should mention that we ended up having too much fun on the beach and pier, and never got around to eating, hense the hotel for dinner :-)

Location is this Double Tree's best asset--easy highway access, directly across from the Maine Mall. Central to all of Portland's attractions. Otherwise, it was a 2.5 star-quality hotel with the pretentions of a 4-star hotel. The grout in the shower was flaking off. The towels (in room and pool) smelled as if they'd been left in the washer overnight. No refrigerator in the room, which had been promised online. The pool was an immense disappointment--far smaller than the photos online, in poor repair, and large dirt piles around the room's edges. The entire hotel just seemed past its prime. If I'm going to pay 4-star prices, I expect better.

I stayed three nights while on a business trip and will return again if I have the chance. Every staff person I encountered (front desk, wait staff, shuttle driver) were very professional. Room was spacious, comfortable and clean. Excellent location from the airport.
