NH München Messe4.0 out of 5.0

We are NH regular clients but this time round we are thinking of switching if we don't compensated! The NH brand is fantastic as we have been using it over the years but our last experience in Germany was not a good one. We stayed in 2 NH hotels totalling to 7 nights (Nuremberg and Munich). Both hotels did not have an air condition cooling system in the rooms. Air-condition fan system worked but the cooling was not there? 34 degrees out side after a full day and coming back to your room to refresh and sleep at night was frustrating. We spoke to reception in Nuremberg and they replied that they have no other alternative rooms at the moment so they gave us a free breakfast voucher along with a 10% discount off the bill. In Munich when we contacted reception... they sent the maintenance person after 2 days to fix the AC but the rest remained the same. We don't feel good about this review but it is only fair as my family and I paid good money.
Typical small room hotel of about 22 to 25 sq meters space common in Europe. Four story complex with typical hotel facilities but a good breakfast buffet selection. Has free wifi and a bar and poolside as well. It has climate control and you can get a taxi via front desk to go to other parts of Munich. Has typical two pin European standard sockets hence you need to bring universal adapters with USB sockets. Stayed here for two nights in January.
We were a party of 5 adults and we booked 2 rooms months ago. Instead of 2 beds per room we were giving one bed (and a tiny child size cot for the triple). We asked to change rooms and were told there were no double beds available. We also waited over an hour to get our room. The lobby of the hotel is tiny and unimpressive. Breakfast was good and had a varied selection.
Perfectly adequate hotel but the location is poor as there is little to do nearby. A couple of decent restaurants close at hand but but no bars or other entertainment. As this was an overnight stop at the start and end of a coach tour this wasn't a problem but it isn't somewhere to stay more than one night.
Perfectly comfortable hotel that was an overnight stop at the start and end of a coach tour. Rooms okay, as was breakfast. The main drawback is there is very little to do near the hotel. A couple of nice restaurants but no bars or other entertainment close at hand.
Reception woman didn´t treat us well. She didn´t even want to explain how to go to the city. However, the man in charge of the restaurant was really polite and interested in the service. Rooms were outdated, but quiet. There was silence all night and that´s something I appreciate.
Beware- this hotel is inaccurately described by another poster who states that it is conveniently situated by the station. This is another NH hotel entirely... This one is smart, clean and comfortable but miles from Munich city centre. We were told we had a 15-20 walk before we could pick up a bus to get there. It is situated on a busy road and surrounding area is residential. There are only a few restaurants nearby but we were lucky enough to get a table in Neptun directly opposite. (Reservations recommended.) Nothing wrong with the hotel; it's just the location that lets it down...
We stayed here one night in late June and one week at the end of our Cosmos (coach trip) Pros: -spacious, clean room -comfortable bedding -staff were helpful when needed -free wi-fi -complimentary breakfast was extensive -across the road from an excellent Italian restaurant with excellent food and very reasonable prices Cons: -location is quite a distance (maybe a 40 min. drive from Munich centre) -touted as business hotel but, when I asked, I was told that there was no business centre (I wanted to print my boarding pass; needed to checkin on my smartphone and then email the confirmation to the hotel)
In general all good, standard business hotel. The only complaint I have is that there was no hot water (nor for any of my many colleagues that were staying at the hotel). During check-out, I said that there was only ice cold water. My expectation was that I would receive an apology. Instead, all the person said was that this has already been reported to the engineer. I'm sorry but this is basic customer service that you have to apologise when this happens. Next year we'll go again to Munich for an exhibition that lasts 1 week. This is for me a clear reason to chose a different hotel.
Overall: Overall good value for money. Breakfast is fresh and the staff is friendly. There is also a small gym and SPA which is more than enough for a business traveller. Issues: One of the two saunas wasn't functioning quite well or at all during my visits of the SPA area. It occurred to me a couple of times to wait long for the reception to answer my room calls and sometimes they didn't even bother to pick up the phone. Calling back my room afterwards was also not an option obviously. If you need to get something in the evening (extra pillow, iron etc.) then the chance of getting a no is quite big due to either "too busy" or "alone at receiption". In terms of cleanliness, I had some small negative observations, but nothing dramatic. Summary: That being said, I still think that the hotel is good due to its large free parking area and lobby, friendly staff, food and facilities. Just the final touch is sometimes missing..
