We knew going in that this was not a fancy hotel. But the price was very low. The owners (a very friendly and hard-working couple) were wonderful, the room was simple but clean and well-kept, the location was very good. There are some signs of needed maintanance, but our room also had a newly refurbished bath and we thought the value for the price was good.
I have learned my lesson! Never will I go to Montreal during the last week of August-first week of September unless I have a secured hotel reservation because 95% of the hotels were booked during that period. I was very anxious to find a place to sleep when suddenly a room became available at this place called "Hotel Bon Accueil" ! I had no choice, it was either this place or the street. I booked the hotel through Expedia ( oh... by the way, Expedia rejected my review of the hotel because I needed to edit it to their "standards". The hotel is a dirty, filthy and smelly place. My room was on the second floor, there was no elevator, no help from the Chinese staff (husband and wife) I had to carry 70 pounds luggages by myself to the second floor after hours of flight. The carpets in the hallway was so dirty, I had to hold my breath. The room had a bad and a good TV, I must recognize but no shampoo in the bathroom, no skin lotion, no controllable AC! the button that controls the AC was not even working! This place does not deserve to be a 1/2 star hotel. Close it down and restart it. This is a disgrace!
This place is located right beside the subway station Berri UQAM. If you get out to the correct exit, Place Dapre?? (something like that), you'll only need about 3 minutes walk. The carpeting is the worst thing in the hotel. I generally can't stand old dirty carpet. The stairs are very narrow (not width wise, but short, like you cannot put your whole foot down), so you'll need to be extra careful. If you are an extra large person, I would say you need to pay even more attention. Cleanliness is good. The washroom doesn't seem as old as the hotel. I didn't like the bedding as it still feels like it's a cover, so people will drop it onto the floor. The mattress were very soft. There is parking lot right across from the street (2 minute walk not even). $9 per entry, and $12 day maximum. Not a bad price for downtown parking. They have breakfast for $2. It has coffee, tea, croissant, bread, juice, orange and watermelon. Tim Horton is close by if this is not for you. However, for $2, it's very reasonable. Although free would be even better. :o) In the room, the cleaning lady left an envelope for tips. I put $5 in it next morning, and my husband didn't know I left money, so he left another $4 on the night stand. When we came back both were gone. I would think if you took the envelope money, you should have left the money on the night table. The front desk people were very helpful and friendly though. I would stay here again just for the location and price. We had to pay $15 a night for an extra person (3rd person). Overall it was ok, but excellent, but tolerable. It is within walking distance to Old Montreal.
Very nice hotel for Montreal. The staff was very very friendly, and the breakfast was quite ok. The staff offered us all the info regarding our first visit to Montreal. The location is near the city center but the area is the best one. Quite clean and offered us all the services we requested.
This is an unsafe and extremely poor hotel. My reasons are: 1. smoke detector in our room is not connected to the reception so when it went off at night I had to scream down the stairs as no one answered the phone. 2. fire doors are propped open 3. no air con, just a screwed up vent in our room. owners told us they had air con and then produced a fan!!! 4. only one lamp for whole room, unless you want to unplug the fridge which with no air con was needed. 5. over twice the price just because it was grand prix weekend, regardless of whether you were going or not. 6. broken step in entrance 7. VERY steep and narrow stairs, no lift 8. vent in shower room FILTHY 9. shower room door wouldn't close 10. smoking in hotel at all times, even when it declared no smoking 11. poor breakfast even for a continental. polystyrene bowls and plastic cutlery. serve yourself and clear up after yourself. 12. husband badly bitten at night Find another hotel if you can. I have camped in a field in better conditions than this
If you are looking for something basic and well located then this property fits the bill. Not the newest of properties but if you are out and about all day and just need a place to sleep then this place is fine. Within walking distance to most attractions and the metro is also just a few meters away. There is no lift so it is a bit inconvenient when you have to bring your luggage to and from your room. The owners and staff are lovely and the breakfast is simple but nice. This was a return stay and I would stay there again.
The reception people and those who were responsible for breakfast were nice and effective. Room was clean, quiet and rather large. Metro stop is around the corner, as well as lots of shops, cafes, etc.
Excellent location, the Night shift man was so friendly and polite, always helpful and funny. The hotel was clean, beware of the stairs! Being a female I had to lug my luggage up and down the stairway.... There is complimentary breakfast, but I never took up the offer. Excellent location, close to Latin quarter, mont royal and down town montreal (I walked there multiple times, I never used the subway/metro) the subway is close by as to is the bus station. I suggest you use the bus from the airport, it is only $10 express... Much better value than a taxi. And literally over the road from the bus terminal, iI arrived by taxi as I didn't realise how close the bus station was. I recommend staying here if you are on a budget but want privacy. (Instead of a backpackers)
I wanted a nice place to stay for a good price, and it was what I was looking for! The breakfast was nice and most of all,the employees were more than awesome ; welcoming, helpful, nice!!! I loved it and will definitely come back! Special thanks to the owner and the receptionist when I first came! Lovely people!!!
I booked this hotel last minute looking for a basic room for New Year's Eve 2013. With a quick skim through the other reviews on this site, which were generally pretty positive, Hotel Bon Accueil sounded like it would get the job done. All I wanted was a place to get ready for a night out, and to sleep for a few hours. To my surprise, this was asking a lot from Hotel Bon Accueil. For $100 + tax, I got: 1) A room that reeked so strongly of cigarettes (despite having booked a non-smoking room) that I had to leave the window open all evening to try to air the place out. When I asked if I could be moved to a non-smoking room, I was told that all the rooms were in fact non-smoking, but people smoke in them anyway. Everything I owned smelled like smoke after my one-night stay. 2) A tiny bathroom that was barely functional. I had to wear sandals in the shower, the toilet ran every time I flushed it, and there were no towels in the room--I had to go ask for those. 3) A room where I could barely sleep. The room had a curtain on a broken track, with the curtain suspended from only the two end hooks and drooping in the centre. The entire rod/curtain fell down 3 times in the middle of the night, waking me each time. I'll also add that the walls in Hotel Bon Accueil are very thin--you can hear your neighbour's conversations clearly. In short, I wouldn't stay here again. The staff are nice people and try to be helpful, but the hotel itself is in really sad shape. Unless you get this place for under $60/nt somehow, I wouldn't even consider it if there are other options available.
