I called ahead about arriving early and was told between 1-1:30 would work. We arrived at 1 and the lobby was empty. No one showed for about 30 minutes. Room was not ready so we waited another 45 minutes before it was ready. Other than that the room was large, clean, and updated. Their cancellation policy is non existent so make sure before you book

The property was clean and the staff were kind and accommodating. This is a very small motel that feels safe. There’s one entrance driving in and out. They offer a small pool (unheated) and no jacuzzi, but my family still enjoyed the pool a bit in April. There is water offered in the lobby that my family utilized during our stay to fill up our water bottles. The motel also has an outside seating area that we used. We walked to a cute nursery across the street and over to Dennis the Menace Park and Monterey’s skatepark. There’s also a sandwich shop and convenience store within walking distance as well. Nothing is far in Monterey, but driving, this was located in a convenient spot. Before our stay, I called to ask about accommodations due to us having 2 rooms and they were very helpful. I would suggest this location and would possibly stay here again.

0-stars: Very disappointing. We were 2 families in our group that booked based on the high Expedia rating. We arrived just before midnight (not 1am as hotel claimed in response to the other family’s review) and were told of an unexpected $25 late check-in fee plus the standard security deposit. Deposit was fine, and I inserted my credit card into the terminal, but late fee was never disclosed in reservation confirmation. When we politely asked about it, the attendant became aggressive, raised his voice, and even threatened to increase the fee to $50. When we tried to clarify, he abruptly removed my credit card and began closing the check-in window, asking if we even wanted to check in. We didn’t feel this was proper treatment, and asked about a refund, but he said we’d have to deal w Expedia. While contacting Expedia, he returned complaining our calls disturbed his sleep, and then shouted, “are you ready to check in now?” We genuinely felt unsafe and left immediately despite having no backup for our families late at night, nor knowing if we’d receive any reimbursement. After trying several full hotels, we finally found rooms at Embassy Suites, which was a huge relief and a great experience. Now seeing that other guests reported a similar treatment. Had we researched more carefully, we’d have avoided being subject to this. Hope this helps other families stay away from this property. Also hope Expedia protects its customers by removing this property from its options.
