We spent a night in a waterfront room with a balcony and it felt like a week, it was so relaxing. I spent hours just watching the Cormorant rookery from my balcony. The sound of the waves breaking was better than any music. The room was spacious and the bed extremely comfortable. The hotel staff was impeccably gracious. We had a wonderful dinner at the hotel restaurant, Schooner's. My husband's swordfish was perfectly cooked. My appetizer of steamed clams was a great value - very generous with clams and garlic bread. With an order of soup, it was plenty for a meal. The wine selection was good and the prices overall quite reasonable. We plan to stay here again - a little longer this time - later in the summer. Next time we'll spend some time on the patio and take advantage of the fire pits.

A family of 4 going to Monterey Bay Aquarium. It is a very nice hotel and friendly staffs. The hotel view is excellent, unfortunately, a part of the hotel is under renovation, otherwise, it will be nice for kids to hangout outside. The hotel is so closed to the beach and the aquarium. Overall, I will highly recommended this place for family.

This is the second time we have stayed in this hotel. It is a great location and allowed us to walk to the aquarium, and later to the Cannery Row Brewing Company for dinner. The hotel staff were all very helpful and friendly, but we realized that they were very under-scheduled when we dined for lunch at their in-house restaurant. They handled it very well, and our server and the restaurant manager made the best of the situation. It was pretty impressive. We would definitely stay here again.

beautifully designed hotel right on the water with fabulous woodwork throughout the hotel including the rooms. Very classy accommodations at a good price

It was a great stay and the customer service was excellent. Beds very comfortable. Dining in the hotel was very good.

This is a lovely hotel but very, very expensive. I will have to search for more reasonable accommodations.

This hotel is well-located if you are visiting Big Sur. It's about a one hour spectacular drive. We had a great room. It's also walking distance to the beach, stores and restaurants.

I must admit in the beginning of this review that I have high expectations. Not when I'm staying in a Knight's Inn, though (which I do frequently when I'm on the road with my band and our budget is tight). But when a hotel is rated four stars I want to know where the premium price tag is going. I have stayed in a lot of four star hotels as well when I'm traveling with family. This hotel, as I said in the title is very good. I gave it a three out of five for its "overall" score. It's a little above average. There were good things: location in the city, seaside, beautiful lobby, good on-site restaurant, and balconies in every room (I think). Then there was the not-so-good: a $27 "resort" fee while it is not a resort (what was that for?), no beach access, no pool, and everything is overpriced ... Everything. This is all my opinion, of course, but I hope I am informing some potential customer with important information.

Always a great time at Monterey Plaza Hotel!! Great staff that's always accommodating!

Everyone treated us so special. Very accommodating for our every whim. Manager personally took care of a meal situation to our great satisfaction. Have traveled around the world and Monterey Plaza Hotel met and exceeded our every expectation. Highly recommended and will visit again. Thanks to all the staff especially Serena Trevor and Alexander for making our stay memorable. Luvs!!!

The ocean views from the balcony and roof top jacuzzi can not be matched!

Very nice hotel overlooking the ocean, big spaces, on site food, nice deck with coffee shop on the ocean. Close to restaurants and 17 mile drive.

The free happy hour with wine and food was nice. The staff, bar and restaurants were fantastic. 2 roof-top hot tub right on the water were amazing. But the bakery was literally in competition with Paris. Well done all the way around.

When I made the reservation at this hotel, it was rated as one of the best in the area. The hotel did not disappoint. It is extremely beautiful with amazing views of the Monterey Bay! The room was amazing, a really nice size for a family of 5 and the beds were extremely comfortable. The entire hotel is top notch. My only complaints would be that the hotel is a bit pricey and even though it is on the bay, there's not really a good place for kids or families to hang out on the beach, which is what we were hoping for. The staff were all extremely friendly and helpful.

I would absolutely stay here again. I decided to upgrade our room to an ocean view and it was worth every penny! Otters were in full view and we could listen to the waves crash all night. Schooners was super delicious too!

We are always pleased with this establishment. A true getaway... The staff is always helpful and friendly. We are always pleased with our room whether it's an inland or ocean view.

We had a fabulous stay at the Monterey Plaza Hotel & Spa. Room was spacious and nicely furnished. The staff was very friendly and so helpful. Great views of the water from our ocean view room and the complimentary binoculars were a nice touch for getting a closer look at the sea otters playing in the water. Hotel was within walking distance of the aquarium, shopping, and restaurants. My husband and I truly enjoyed our stay and will definitely stay here again on future visits to Monterey.

I've always wanted to stay at this hotel and I was not disappointed. All of the staff was friendly and helpful. We also had a couples massage which was worth every penny!

Arrived a bit early on a Saturday so the room was not ready. But we waited in the sun right outside and got rewarded with a great room (in the Spa building) a floor lower than the main floor and right above the ocean and the waves breaking on the beach. Fantastic. Staff was fantastic as usual; from the check-in & check-out to getting the car from the valet: always a smile and a nice word. This is getting to be my favorite place to stay in Monterey and I do not mind paying a little extra. The only slight displeasing experience was moving from building to building and having to go "behind the scenes" and use the service elevator as they are updating some parts of the hotel. But knowing the quality of what they have built so far, I am confident that it will be great!

In town for a conference and brought the family along for what turned out to be one of the most memorable trips we've taken. The location and amenities of the Monterey Plaza Hotel and Spa are what made the trip! The location to the wharf and trails provided a great background for a morning run. The hotel is also within walking distance to Canary Row. We will be returning again this year and are looking forward to it!
