About this property
Stunning Historic Farmhouse with Large Addition Overlooking Stream
Welcome to our home. The original farmhouse was built in 1790, as you can see, the old fireplace dates that far back. In 2006 we added 3,000 square feet. We opened up the first floor into one large loft-like space that overlooks the forest, the streams, and has a wrap around porch, as well as a deck. The open kitchen has a large farm table for casual meals, and the dining room has a long hand hewn table that seats ten. There are two living rooms, one with a TV screen, and the old fireplace, the other has two large linen sofas and a wood burning stove. All spaces are open and connected with easy access to the outside spaces. Upstairs are three large bedrooms for your use, with three bathrooms. The house is light, open, and airy, but also very cozy. Because of the open staircase it is not suitable for children and elderly people who need two handrails. We are in architecture and interior design and the house has been published is several books. But don't let that put you off. It's very cozy and livable. The sound of the stream below the house (it's built on a hillside) is my favorite feature of our home. We sit on ten acres of mostly woods, but around the house there is a large lawn, a long driveway, and bamboo trees shield us from the quiet dead-end road. I grow a vegetable garden, there's a garage for gardening stuff, a rock garden in the hillside, and as I mentioned, several streams run behind the house. There is plenty of wildlife, like deer, wild turkeys, chipmunks and squirrels. and loads of birds, including a heron who has visited our stream for years.
We are only five minutes outside historic Milford. Up the hill, behind town. Our neighbors are mostly hidden by the trees. Milford itself is a quaint town with a history of logging, as well as environmental preservation. It is the seat of the US Forest Service, located at Grey Towers, a must-visit historic site on beautifully landscaped acres. Milford is surrounded by the Delaware Water Gap National Park with its many hiking trails, waterfalls, swimming holes, and the Delaware River itself with rafting, kayaking, and swimming at Milford Beach. There are several excellent restaurants with historic ambiance, porches, and outdoor seating. There are many tasteful lifestyle and antique stores, a great health food/coffee shop, a farmer's market on Sundays during the summer, and several bars for after hours drinks and music.
Guests can enjoy a Smart TV and stay connected with free WiFi. Other standard amenities include a kitchen, a washing machine, and 4 bathrooms.
