If you stay in the mixed bed dorms you'll have a sub-woffer implanted into the wall to keep you up until 3 in the morning each night. I think it's a running joke with this place. The staff deal with the people who want to sleep and the laughing owners collect the check.

Exellent pool bar and hotel. Fair price. Near the beach

too loud, too mediocre across the board but charge like luxury resort. Out of touch!

told me i woulld get my $50.00 deposit back when I left abd did not get it back. Nothing was wrong with the room when I left, i have not goten my deposit back

We had an absolute blast staying at the Freehand for my bachelorette party. The quad style hostel rooms can be reserved privately, so for us, it was perfect and everyone had their own little bunk! My only complaint with the room would be that because it’s a hostel, it’s missing some regular amenities that you normally take for granted- like soaps and shampoos in the bathroom, there’s no hairdryer unless you pay to rent one, and there’s not even hand towels or wash cloths. There also isn’t a mirror in the room besides the one in the bathroom, so it was a little difficult to get ready unless you all crowd in the little bathroom together. The little pool and outside lounge area are great, and always busy with people lounging and having a good time. We absolutely loved the little Hotel bar too. While it was busy sometimes at night and you’d wait a little while in a line for a drink, it was definitely worth it! Their cocktails are fantastic and the vibe is so relaxed and chill, it was the perfect place to have a drink or to and relax before heading out for the evening! Also, the chicken tinga quesadillas? Don’t know why, but each of us LOVED those things! It’s maybe a 5 minute walk from mid beach, and you can get to the heart of south beach in 20 minutes walking. Great place. Fun. Affordable. No fighting over who shared what bed. Very cute. I’d definitey go back!

I like location of the hotel. Beach is more comfortable than South Beach area. Less people - more space to enjoy.

Lots of character, beautifully decorated ... good location ... convenient bus ride from the airport (route 150 - Airport Express

Hotel was very close to the beach and offered $10 per day parking instead of paying $2 per hour like most places nearby. Amazing beach only one block away and the great food at the hotel as well as awesome atmosphere! We enjoyed the drinks at the Shaker bar while listening to music. Loved it and can't wait to come back again!

I love the lounge area as well as the restaurant the food was wonderful the chef prepared some great dishes.

I stay for 3 nights at this hotel. When I arrived the bed that was assigned to me was dirty and used. I had to wait for two and half hours in order that the bed was ready. They did not offer a towel. The breakfast is poor and the area is not clean. Likewise the room was never cleaned for the 4 days of my stay.

My wife was not happy with the hostel environment (bunk beds and no soap) while I on the other hand loved the experience especially the green lizard by the pool. Also the younger customers were a good change from the older crowd on our cruise. A king bed would have made my wife happy.

Well curated rooms, shared spaces and events. My experience made me feel like I never had to leave the property. Meeting great fellow travelers and exploring Miami on my own, I was happy to call Freehand my home.

I stayed in a hostel room with other females from different parts of the world, made t an interesting experience. Something I recommend the hotel to do is not charge extra for having an all female room since it's less expensive to have a mixed room or all male room, makes it unfair for us. Also the room should have a little extra space and the bathroom is so smal for 4 roommates. The locker room should have a curtain at least to use as a changing room. There need to be working power outlets. A blow dryer, mini fridge and microwave would be helpful in each room since we have so many roommates it's just not convenient To go to the guest kitchen and keep food with other people you don't even know. Very unconvenient. The shaker is very pricey i don't recommend getting anything from there. The pool, guests, staff were great.

The Broken Shaker is an absolutely fantastic on-premises bar with amazing cocktails, and the 27 Restaurant attached makes incredible food. I loved my room, loved the ambiance, REALLY loved the proximity to the beach and the good parking. My husband and I will most definitely be visiting again in the future.

I stayed in one of the private rooms. The room was ok however everything in the room was pretty much the cheapest possible material. This is a hostel so it feels like they might be good at that and are trying to also be a hotel, which they are less good at. Overall it was an ok stay but the staff needs a lot of work. They have a limited number of overnight parking passes which are "first come first serve" I was attending a conference so I would be leaving early and coming back late so I figured I would be early enough to get one every day... except that by first come first serve they meant first come after whatever random time they decide to start selling the tickets. They wouldn't even put one aside for me. The breakfast looked ok but was from 8-10am. This is a hotel targeted at young people and it shows. The late breakfast, parking pass stuff, some towels not being replaced by the staff during the day etc. if you are under 25 and want a cool place to stay near the beach check it out. If you are there for any other reason, stay at a real hotel.

The staff was very nice and helpful. The majority of people staying there are students and young people looking for partying, drinking and going to the beach. If you want to sleep early you might have a problem.

Stayed in the quad room and was great. Met awesome people and everyone's friendly. Loved they I can hang out in their beautiful jungle like patio for drinks and dinner. The bar is always busy with people and it's not as noisy as you'd think.

This place is something else. When reading about this place I considered the small amount of "Cons". Spoiler alert. These are left by folks who turn to comment on their smartphones rather than approach the friendly staff. Even the house keepers were pleasant enough to share some laughs. Outlets not working? Put your f$&#ing phone down and look under the bed. Probably got unplugged. This place is clean, and has a very enthusiastic staff. You have more privacy than any other place I've stayed. It's clean. Like... very well cared for. I will never stay anywhere else. Look at pictures of all the other hostels and their rooms and you will agree. If not I'll give you your money back.

Be aware it's a party hostel. Lots of noise. Spent three nights there and got waken up every night by drunk people coming back in the room. Many things not working in the room. Ex light and no cold water.

Rooms need a "little bit" more attention. Dust, roaches, cleaning out the lockers...

We are sorry that this was your experience at the Freehand. We do have an issue with people switching beds in the rooms without advising us which causes confusion at the reception and there is a nominal fee which is charged when we find out who actually took a bed which they were not assigned. In regards to the room service this is normally upon request for extended stays and towels are normally put in the guests locker prior to arrival. We will work on ironing out these issues.
