Sea Shore Motel2.5 out of 5.0

This is an older motel that’s been given a modest amount of updating. All the rooms have been declared non-smoking, and I only detected a very faint glimmer of old smoke smell in my room. The bathrooms have been redone. There is adequate wi-fi. Also, the management will loan guests electric kettles and small microwave ovens. The result is most certainly not a five-star hotel but, well, a perfectly comfortable older motel. Staff members were friendly. By world standards, the Sea Shore doesn’t seem cheap for what you get, but it’s one of Santa Monica’s less expensive hotels. The motel sits on Main Street, a low-key pedestrian-friendly traditional commercial street approximately a mile southeast of downtown Santa Monica. Many of the storefronts on Main Street feature restaurants, coffee shops, and the like. Two of the three restaurants that my companion and I tried (Thai Vegan and the Jinya Ramen Bar) were excellent, and the third was fine. There’s a weekly farmers’ market a block from the motel. The nearest supermarket is a Whole Foods, a little over a mile away. A Von’s and a Ralph’s are a bit further. There is fairly good bus service on Main Street, and the beach is two or three blocks away. Only caveat: It was quite cool the week I was in Santa Monica. The room included a heating and air-conditioning unit that worked fine, but it was _very_ noisy, and the thermostat was set so that it cycled on and off several dozen times every night. I found this a little bothersome. Still, I recommend this motel.
Stayed here 3 nights in late February and had a downstairs room by the car breezeway. The room was clean and the bed very comfortable. Nice shower in bathroom which we prefer over the bath/tub combo. Plenty of counter space in the bathroom. Amelia's restaurant was next door and a great place for coffee and breakfast. We did have an issue with the AC/heat unit giving off a musty odor and we had difficulty switching off the fan, but after we had been gone all day we came back and there was a brand new ac/heat unit in the room without us having to bring the issue to management. Guess the maid must have reported the problem. The only real complaint we would have would be that we heard the people upstairs walking around so soundproofing is an issue here. I would recommend a room upstairs.
We stayed here for two nights on our trip around California. We choose it because it was affordable and the tripadvisor reviews were pretty good. The room we had was huge with a separate dining room and kitchen. The facilities are generally quite basic. There is plenty of free parking. It is only a few blocks to the beach and about a 20 minute walk to the Santa Monica Pier.
Great location - very near the pier - clean - good service - Good size rooms ! Would stay again when next in town much prefer than Down town LA -comfortable beds too ! Reasonably priced for location.!
Older motel so don't expect 5 star, but the staff price and location make up the difference. Staff were super helpful to get us into our room after a long flight from Australia. Close to LAX, walk to beach 10mins, walk to edge of Town 15mins. Free Parking and WiFi is a plus also. Rooms/Beds are comfortable for a 3 x night stay, and plenty of dining options nearby also..
An older motel but for the price & location in Santa Monica it was fantastic. Short walk to restaurants & the beach. Bed was comfortable, front desk staff were really friendly & helpful. If you are on a budget and don't care for 5 star, this is a great little place!
We stayed here for a week on a recent trip to Santa Monica. Staff were super friendly and helpful. They have a great deck which was lovely to sit and have a drink after a day of sight seeing. The onsite coffee shop has excellent coffee. Rooms are really large and they have a car park. Great location with plenty of great restaurants and bars along Main St. I will definitely come back here.
Room was very nice, a bit dated, but cleanliness was superb. Overall experience was very good, staff was friendly. Motel is close enough to Santa Monica Downtown, but far enough to be in nice peace and quietness.
Stopped in totally by chance when looking for a last minute place in Venice/Santa Monica. They had a great room with 2 full size beds. I was with my son so we were happy for 2 beds. It was clean and comfortable. Price was good. No extra charges for parking or other dumb things that hotels usually charge. Location was perfect, 2 blocks from the beach. Also, even though it was on Main Street, it was very quite. I was very glad I pulled in. Staff was very friendly too.
For context - accomodation in Santa Monica and Venice within striking distance of the beach is expensive. And quite often - awful. Sea Shore was an amazing little find. Old school friendly service that puts a smile on your face, simple but clean rooms, and parking on site. Plus - great coffee out front! Some very thoughtful extras for the beach are available also. Really funky part of Santa Monica I hadn’t previously discovered also. Safe, nice food joints and lots of boutiques. I’ll be back and recommending.
