We stayed for just a single Saturday night at the beginning of April, a quick getaway, leaving the children at home. The welcome was warm and lovely, we had booked an early train so arrived well before check-in time which was not a problem. Our room was lovely and as we had booked direct we had free upgrade with an amazing view across the park. The hotel was in a great position and on Sunday morning we took a gentle walk up to Piccadilly, through Trafalgar Square and ended up at Buckingham Palace just in time for Changing of the Guard. We enjoyed dinner and a cocktail too and found all the staff to be very polite, helpful and welcoming. We would definitely stay again
We stayed 4 nights at the Athenaeum. Very small rooms, the view of the standard room is shown on the pictures! Room wasnt ready when supposed to. The spa Very small and filled with children, so not that peaceful. However good location and friendly staff.
We recently spent a few days at the Athenaeum with our three children. The rooms were very comfortable and the staff was outstanding. A special thanks to PETER at the front desk and especially to Darren, the concierge, who found an orthodontist on a Saturday, at the last moment, to fix our son's braces!
Fantastic to return to The Athenaeum after a couple of years. Our family (mum and two sisters) shared two twin rooms and we were super-comfy with plenty of space. The Hypnos beds were heavenly. I love how they've changed the restaurant, now called Galvin. My courgette soup was absolutely delicious, followed by succulent lamb and aubergine. 10/10.
The Athenaeum is a stylish and comfortable home-away-from-home in the centre of London. In past years it was a bit more child-friendly, but it is still an excellent spot to base a family holiday in the city.
We stayed at the Athenaeum for a weekend overnight and found its location, the service and the quality of the accommodation, bedding and amenities top notch. We had a late evening tea and dessert in the hotel lobby, and similarly, have nothing but positive things to say. Clean, comfortable, smartly appointed. You cannot beat the location for London - very close to shops, Covent Garden and many sites. I leave off a star for the zealousness of the turn-down service and morning cleaning crew. We were twice rung (the rooms have doorbells) at 6 and 7pm for turn down, and we were trying to relax. We were rung and woken up by the cleaning service at 9am (two rings). This was a getaway for us and we looked forward to relaxing and having a lie in. She came back again at 10am. She waited outside until I opened the door. I told her we were leaving in 10 mins. She stood there stone faced as if I had somehow affected her day. To the credit of the front desk, they were quite surprised by this and said that no one is supposed to do this until noon. In general, a very nice place that would stay at again. I will use the Do Not Disturb sign (which I could not find) next time.
From the moment we arrived, we felt as if we were in a welcoming atmosphere. The doorman, who has been there forever, was the most charming and informative person we met. The restaurant is lovely, the staff is caring and I would recommend this property for anyone visiting London.
Our trip to London was to celebrate my friends 50th. The Athenaeum made our trip unforgettable by upgradings each of our 3 rooms, with the birthday girl getting a suite. She ended up like Marie Antoinette eating cakes comped to her by the hotel. Our rooms were fabulous, each overlooking Green Park. The birthday girl's suite was fabulous with her loving the fabulous sitting room overloking the green.Beautiful beds, bedlinen and breakfasts to help delicate heads recover. For well travelled ladies the Athenaeum was a find. It's a fabulous location for visiting KP and BP, convenient for Heathrow transfers. We could not recommend the hotel any more highly. We will be back to our new oasis.
Very nice hotel with friendly staff that go the extra mile. reasonably priced for location and standard of room. The front rooms have a nice view onto Green Park. good facilities and has meeting rooms you can hire that have natural light
I stayed here with business. The staff are very welcoming overall and it was like returning to old friends when you were greeted - a very traditional approach which I liked. I was upgraded which was nice also. There were a few times I called room service and as the staff first language wasn't English struggled to be understood - in fact I was hung up on twice - I had an issue with my bill but this was addressed post check out. Lovely location - short walk to Buckingham Palace and Harrods etc. I would return for sure but some CS training for rooms service staff would be good.
