A great hotel in a fantastic location that creates a luxurious home from home. From the minute you walk into the hotel you are greeted as an important customer and looked after. Its immaculately clean throughout with lots of nice design features.
The Athenaeum offers a great location, beautiful rooms, and a top-notch staff. We stayed here on two separate recent occasions and loved both stays. The staff is immediately welcoming, highly professional, and friendly. They are quite good at their jobs and it shows. This hotel and its people are truly special. Highly recommended.
I reserved an apartment at a residence at the Athenaeum. This promised a bedroom plus another room in an elegant building next to the hotel. We got to the hotel and were happily checked in to an apartment in building 4 on the third floor. We thought we would take our luggage with us as we were travelling light and imagined that like in most of the world a third floor room would be accessible by elevator. A porter intercepted us and told us he must accompany us to the room. OK, it's a fancy hotel and the porters do things like this. But on the way to the residence (around the corner from where we checked in) we found out that the elevator was not working but that it would certainly be repaired tomorrow. Three long flights up (luckily the porter was strong and could carry our suitcases) we made it into the room. The next day of course the elevator was still not working. A trip to the front desk informed us that we must be mistaken, and perhaps the elevator repairman had forgotten to take the note off the elevator. Alas, not. The kicker was finally the night before checkout we got a message under the door from the "Guest Experience Manager" that we would have complimentary breakfast for the remainder of our stay as compensation for the non working elevator. But as our rate included breakfast, this was not much of a bonus. In short, a confused hotel with poor guest communication. Perhaps if the lifts are working it is pleasant, but when they are not the desk is deceptive (not mentioning it when you check in) and evasive (claiming it was fixed when it was not). I spent a zillion points to stay at this hotel in a nice apartment and instead I had to walk to the third floor and ask for help to get bags in and out. I would seriously advise having a backup plan if you plan on staying in the residences.
Loved this hotel, amazing location and beautiful modern room with thoughtful touches everywhere. Great lounge at the top of the hotel with views across London. Delicious breakfast with happy attentive staff. New favourite London hotel!
We had a wonderful stay at the Athenaeum this weekend, The hotel is ideally centrally located and the staffs attention to detail is second to none. Special thanks to Darren Muylders the Concierge who recommended a beautiful restaurant and evening out for myself and my wife.
I’ve stayed in many hotels in London over the years, and this one is without doubt the best. The rooms aren’t huge, but they do have “English charm”, and everything works well. They’re quiet, well airconditioned, good beds, new bathrooms. Finally it has a great restaurant and bar and it’s all reasonably priced.
We were on floor 10, room was well appointed and quiet, also very clean. Breakfast is excellent, with hot food freshly cooked and not self service.Whilst the hotel is 5 star it remains friendly and casual but with the sort of standards you expect for that class of hotel.
Great location, smoothest check-in and especially check-out of any hotel I have ever been in, lovely room, excellent shower, all good I will be back! Missed out on the cheese-tasting which sounded fun, oh well.
We were extremely well looked after from the time we reached the front door and greeted by Jim the doorman and the Reception staff, to the time we left. All staff were exceptionally polite, friendly and helpful. Our room was well decorated and presented. The Reception staff showing us to our room and demonstrating the facilities, lighting and heating controls. Bed was large and comfortable and could choose from the extensive 'pillow menu'. Bathroom was functional with extensive mirrored finish - just as well not bashful or easily scared! Our room had views into Down Street but the shape of the windows afforded views towards Green Park and the 'Green Wall' of the hotel. Although set just off Piccadilly our room was remarkably quiet for central London. We were provided with access to 'the View' on the top floor. There is a wonderful panoramic view of London from here which is just as impressive at night as it is during the day. The View was a good place to sit and relax away from our room with complimentary tea/coffee and snacks as available along with a bar facility chargeable to your room. 'The View' was ideal on return from the theatre in the evening where your bar order from downstairs was brought up to you. Breakfast was excellent. Good quality produce, very well cooked and presented. The restaurant staff were most obliging and attentive to our needs. With the Athenaeum located close to Green Park Underground Station we found travel around London by the Tube was very easy with good links to the Piccadilly Line for theatres and Jubilee Line for Bond Street, Borough Market & the Shard. Jim the doorman will always sort you out with a cab. Our stay was only for two nights. Will consider a longer stay at the Athenaeum to take advantage of the spa, bar and 'the View'. There are a number of good quality bars and restaurants close by and around Shepherds Market that are worth exploring and enjoying. All in all, we enjoyed a thoroughly good weekend at the Athenaeum.
The Athenaeum was as we expected - a "10" in all aspects of service, friendliness, courtesy, timeliness, and helpfulness. The rooms worked out perfectly in every sense of comfort and space. I would go back just to have breakfast - a great way to start each day of adventure and there was something special for each taste. A highlight was access to the lounge on the 10th floor where we (10 of us) rendezvoused after each day to catch our breath and highlight what we liked best. Also, the location is within walking distance to key sites, museums, and several very good restaurants. They provided a very special complimentary treat for our 50th anniversary. I will come back to the Athenaeum when next in London.
