Great location. Great staff. Nice attached lounge. Cafe in hotel is a little light on ambience.
We stayed in one of the apartments and it was perfect for a longer stay.
The location of this hotel is convenient for leisure and business alike, and the staff is incredibly helpful. However, I was not told before arrival that the lobby, bar, and restaurant are under construction. The guests are asked to use a side entrance to enter the hotel.
My fiancee and I thoroughly enjoyed our stay at this hotel. On arrival, we got an upgrade to a park view room which was a wonderful way to start our trip. The staff - from housekeeping, the bellman, front desk, the waiters to the concierge - were all so pleasant, helpful and accommodating. The location is fantastic; a 10 minute walk from the hotel in either direction will take you to Harrods in one direction and to Piccadilly Circus and the Theater District in another. The Hotel while older had a great English feel which is something we were looking for in a London hotel, and really enjoyed. It is small, and all staff seemed to know our names, which helped made the hotel feel very cozy and intimate. The restaurant had great food, including a very nice Thanksgiving turkey dinner, and if you like whiskey, the bar is the place to be as it seemed to have more times there than I knew every existed. All in all a great trip.
Great service and dream location with Green Park across street, Shepherd's Market around corner, a tube stop barely 10min's away
I stayed at the Athenaeum over the Christmas holiday and cannot extend enough compliments to the hotel and staff. The location cannot be beat, the room was very clean, stylish and comfortable (I was upgraded when I checked in), extremely quiet and the staff were a pleasure. On Christmas eve they even delivered a Christmas gift to my room (a small box of spa products). How lovely! The hotel is small which I found added to its charm. I've stayed at so many wonderful hotels in London and consider the Athenaeum to be at the top of the list.
Bad: Small room, over-heated with no way to cool it off. Good: mistakes rectified with a smile: free WiFi: free water: fast elevators; pleasant staff. Still, one would expect more for the money.
Very difficult to fault this hotel. Conveniant location and staff couldn't be more helpful. Rooms clean and a good size plus free internet and soft drinks/snacks from minibar just make it feel less penny-pinching than others. Won't stay anywhere else next time I'm in London.
