A reasonably-priced on-street Hotel, walking distance from Russell Square. Our room was surprisingly spacious and bathroom seemingly recently updated to a good standard. The sound proofing to the windows is good and it pays to be allocated a higher floor room. Note, however, there is no lift/elevator. Cooked breakfast was made-to-order which was a nice touch, along with a reasonable range of fruit and cereals, etc. Check-out was 11am but we were able to leave our luggage in reception for a while to make the most of the morning prior to departure.
I’ve stayed in a few hotels in this area, and this was by far the best. Having said that it was fairly standard. Reasonable sized room. The bed was 2 twins zipped together, but without a mattress topper, so you could feel the ridge!. Standard amenities..... mini bar, hair drier, safe, tea/coffee making. The bathroom is small, but recently upgraded. Breakfast was reasonable.... variety of fruit, cereals and cooked options. Nothing exceptional but provided a reasonable service.
Very late booking, comfy beds, good showers, decent breakfast, the staff allowed us to leave our luggage a few hours which was a massive help. The location for us was perfect, a nice walk into town, good bus connections 5 minutes away, would visit again
We have stayed at the various hotels in gower street over the years and this is probably the best yet. Friendly staff, great choice at breakfast (cooked and continental ) and spotless room. We stayed at the top, no lift but no issue for us. Better signage needed, as there are 2 staircases and we took the wrong one first time ! There are only 7 tables for breakfast, so you may have to wait but service is quick. Probably better if they had more tables for 2 instead of 4. Bloomsbury is great for pubs and restaurants and easy access to Euston and theatreland etc. A little noise from the road and other patrons can be heard but nothing significant. Lovely hotel, will certainly stay again !
We stayed for 3 nights at the Staunton. The location is wonderful as you are one block from the British Museum and a few blocks from Tottenham Court which has a tube and plenty of shops and restaurants. We were on the 2nd floor and there is no lift, we didn't mind, but it can be an issue for some. The room was nice and the bathroom had recently been redone. It was small, but tasteful. We could hear people outside at different times, but there were two windows (inner and outer) to help keep out the chill and the noise and by opening one or the other, we were able to stay cool and quiet. The reception folks were very nice and allowed us to keep our bags there when we were checking in. Breakfast was a good combination of pastries, fruit, and made to order hot food (like a full English breakfast). Overall, a lovely stay.
Only stayed here for 1 night but wish it could have been for longer, so comfortable was my stay. Convenient location, just 15 minutes’ walk from Euston station and only a 5 minute walk from Skyscanner’s offices, where I was attending a workshop the following day. The hotel is also close to the British Museum. Had a relatively spacious single en-suite room on the ground floor facing the main road, which had a little noise from the traffic though it didn’t affect my sleep. Had booked way in advance and asked for a quiet room but maybe their single rooms all face the front? The room was clean, tidy and had a very comfy bed, with a mattress that was firm enough to support your back. Flat-screen TV located at head height and useful desk and chair for using a laptop. Tea and coffee-making facilities. The Wi-fi worked well. There was also a welcome booklet with information on practicalities and restaurant recommendations. The bathroom was also spotlessly clean with nice toiletries and a heated chrome rail. The rainfall shower was a good feature and the water pressure was very strong when I used the shower head instead. In fact, it was so powerful that it was almost like the sensation that an electric toothbrush gives off when you use it - like having your whole body being gently brushed (it’s nowhere near as erotic as I’m probably making it sound)…..anyway - in short, the highest shower pressure I’ve ever experienced. Breakfast was served between 7:30 and 9:30 (Monday - Saturday; 8:00 - 10:00 on Sunday), which consisted of the usual Continental offerings along with the choice of a full English breakfast that was cooked to order. Overall, a very pleasant stay. Would definitely book to stay here again if I’m ever in this part of London.
Stayed here for one night to see a show. The welcome from reception was pleasant and we were able to leave our cases as our room was not ready. When we returned they insisted on us paying up front and a copy of one of our driving licences, bit odd!! The hall way and stairs were a bit battered looking. Our room was ok, bed comfy. Clean but not spotless. We got to the room at about 4.30 and we were cold and couldn’t get the radiators to work. It is on a fairly noisy road but we didn’t think it was too bad for London. Walls quite thin as we could here the telephone conversation from the man in the next room. Cooked breakfast was excellent and the croissant was lovely and heated through. The fruit didn’t look that fresh a bit bruised. All in all for the one night it was great, I wouldn’t want to stay any longer.
We stayed at this beautiful heritage listed hotel in a great part of London. It’s very close to the museum and great food. It has no lift so make sure you’re fit. WE LOVED our 3 day stay at this quaint hotel. The breakfast was included in the price which was very reasonable for this area of London. You got a cooked breakfast. It was not too far to all the attractions in London. We walked everywhere or went by train on the underground. A great find.
Stayed 2 nights in November. Had a room on the top floor -no lift but it is an old building and the lack of lift had been clearly pointed out when booking. Room was very comfortable and spotlessly clean. Breakfast was cooked to order each morning. All staff very friendly and helpful. Overall a great find and I would definitely book again.
I stayed here with a friend as we were going to a gig at the University of London Union and wanted somewhere close to the venue. The hotel exceeded our expectations. We had a proper twin room unlike the 'double bed plus sofa bed' you often end up with. It's a lovely old building with high ceilings but the room was nice and warm and the bathroom ensuite enclosed to keep the steam out of the bedroom. The windows were well insulated from the traffic noise. The breakfast was great, choice of cereals and pastries etc and a cooked to order breakfast. Free wifi. What more can you ask for.
