We booked this place and they didnt have our booking when we arrived, even after charging us. from the moment we arrived the staff was arrogant and treated us with an attitude, with the attitude that if you pay small you are treated like small people. They double booked our room, charging us but of course when you arrive they told us that they need to check my bank statement, which I obviously dont take with me when I travel They finally sent us to their "sister" hostel 10 min away but the place was terrible The double room with bathroom we booked for 135£ was actually smaller than a prison cell with 2 bunk beds, bars on the smallest window you can have, the smallest bathroom ever seen where you have to shower on the toilets. Place was not clean and was probably given to smokers the night before. Staff was awful, charging us 10£ when we cam back at night as we only took one key between us (the other card was in the room but the security guy wouldn't let us in) This is by far my worst experience travelling for the past 15 years, probably as bad as the bad experience we had in Laos while travelling budget. First of all, the staff at the reception wasn't very friendly nor helpful. They all seemed grumpy and not wanting to work there. Being also employed in the tourism industry, I know how a guest has to be treated and it is definitely not like that. Also, rooms are incredibly small and there are not enough plug sockets in the room (2 for six people), therefore I was almost never able to charge my phone. That is not acceptable in 2018. The room had a bathroom ensuite, which was however functioning poorly. Both tap and shower leaked water on the floor (and on the user) when used. You get what you pay I guess, but next time I will pay a bit more and stay in a better hostel.
SPANISH BELOW I stayed with a friend for 3 nights in April 2018, we woke up the last day at 6 o’clock with 5 leack on the roof, we had to take all our stuff and get out of the bed because it was impossible to stay in there, the water spill all over the place and our clothes were wet. The manager never came, ‘he is sleeping’ they said and when we ask about a compensation they maked us fill a form and then the girls in the main desk were laughing about our explanation. Horrible experience, no one said ‘sorry’, the place is really dirty and REALLY OLD, smells terrible.
This is simply a hostel, not a fancy one with colorful common rooms or community activities. My favorite part was the location, right by Hyde Park and 10-minute walk from the station of Paddington. The rooms are tiny, but with a bathroom inside -there aren't additional showers in the hall, so be patient with your roommates. There are also lockers inside the dorms, just remember the padlock. You won't have the use of a kitchen, just a microwave and clean dishes -better than nothing. Breakfast is humble, but it is still breakfast with cereal and toast. It is a humble place but still affordable for London's standards.
Close to Hyde Park with good location to discover the city. Sleeping with 8 other people is not the most confortable, but not as bad as I thought. Everybody was respected others and let everyone rest in the rooms. Clean enough, the staff is helpful and there is free wifi and a basic breakfast in in the price.
We took a double bedroom with a private bathroom. The room was smaller than shown in the pictures and the breakfast was poor. However, it had a great location, staff was very friendly and helpful. The room was very clean, heating worked very well as well as the hot water.
The first noteworthy aspect here is the luggage storage: it doesn't exist - or rather it does, but as a place the traveller can drop off baggage at time of leaving for a day at the cost of 2.00 per bag. The dorms are tiny, hot and lack spacial ingenuity with no measure of imagination used to maximize utility from what space there is. No hooks, shelves, door knobs etc...just beds and lockers in rooms no bigger than a postage stamp that have windows that are hard to open/close and radiators that cannot come off boiling dial. The dining area and laundry facilities are great and the microwave in the communal area is a good move: nearby Tescos and Sainsburys on the excellent Queensway offer plenty of choice ready meals to those on low budget - just as well as there is no kitchen for food preparation. The bar at the front of the building on the ground floor is right next to reception with good prices but bad atmosphere. The furniture outside was covered with protective sheeting, so there was no gathering space outside to speak of either. Though there is the none too small matter of where this is... Smart View Hyde Park, is smack banf next to a delightful pub called The Leinster Arms - where ale, sport and pub grub can be experienced and tourists are rarely this lucky. Though there appeared to be no-one from the hotel/hostel at the pub during the frequent visits by this writer. Hyde Park is across the road, across from that, High Street Kensington and Knightsbridge - down the road to the left, Marble Arch and the West End.The hostel itself is bound to be a listed building (they are usually Grade II in this area of Bayswater), and part of the best architectural eye candy in London. This is the hostel experience magnified with all human behaviours in these sorts of environments experienced in concentrated form: snoring, bad feet, body odour and the lack of ability to appreciate that these spaces cannot accommodate masses of luggage. But step outside and compensate with what this area gives back to the soul.
the hostel has very small beds, is noisy. the staff wasn't helpfull and the bathroom in the room was very small. they have a terrible elevator-is veeeeerrryy slowly. the room for 8 people is too small.
Stayed here in a large group in one of their 9 bed dorms. Very very tight squeeze of 3 triple bunk beds in a very small room. Very little space for luggage. Only 2 plug sockets for 9 guests and one shower in the room and no communal showers made things tricky. Can't argue with the value at only £15 each per night.
If I could give 0 stars I would. My daughter engaged a 4 night stay and on the first day the desk staff was rude and when she went to inform the staff there was something on the bed which looked like either part of a smashed candy bar or another brown substance they were not willing to help. Most people don't have to deal with this - but my daughter has a severe peanut allergy and if that was a smashed candy bar it could send her to the hospital. When she asked for a different room she was refused. Finally when she said she just wanted to go else where she was informed she could only get her security deposit back - not the reservation money itself. I understand a business needs to make sure that people do not bail on reservations. However, if there is a unique situation I believe a blanket statement of - no you cannot get your money back at all - in unacceptable. The management should have been willing to either move her to other quarters or provide additional compensation. Don't book online here because if there are issues - you cannot work with the staff and you will not get your money back.
