We stayed for two nights and found it handy for dropping off luggage when we arrived at Paddington station; we could then catch buses into city centre easily from outside Paddington station or walk throug Knesington Gardens closeby. Helpful staff. Downside was breakfast which although adequate was basic. We could have upgraded to larger room but preferred quieter normal room at back of hotel whci was fine for our needs. We had to ask the staff to change our kettle as the first cups of tea tasted of soap! They did without any bother.
We stayed for 3 nights late November. Room was very clean just it was really small, not really big enough for 2 people for more than 1 night stay. the heating in the room not so good the radiator didn't seem to get very hot and the bed was up against it blocking any heat and the housekeepers tended to leave the sash window wide open so the room was freezing when we got back later on in the evening. Staff were always friendly and helpful. Wifi good. Location was ok and close to tube station.
I stayed here one night. Totally horrible, things were broken, service was bad, the walls were thin like glas so you can actually here people over you drop a coin on the floor. AND IM NOT DONE! After the stay I was charged one more night than my actuall stay and they promised a refund. Now 10 days after my stay, nothing and they wont respond to my emails either. Dont book here !!!
Came here for a one night stay with me & my 12yr old son (little treat for his birthday). Soon as we checked in the receptionist said "welcome to you & your beautiful son" 😊very nice & friendly. Check in & out easy. Twin Room was lovely, clean and even had tea & small kettle with complimentary tea & coffee. Bathroom was nice, heated towel radiator & good amount of towels again also had complimentary shampoo, soap etc. Beds had pure white sheets on so any dirt would of showed up on here nope it was super clean & super comfy. Flatscreen tv in the room & free wifi. Breakfast was standard but toast, yoghurt, fruit, croissant, sausage, beans& eggs good variety & when it says hotdogs on the website rest assured they are sausages! Should be a 4star not 3star would definitely stay again.
I stayed here for three nights this week and must say disappointingly this hotel is let down by some staff. The hotel is very clean and good location but a guy on front desk, Small guy with glasses needs some customer skills and housekeeping need some basic security training. After working all day on day 2 I came back at 7pm to find my room door open. I checked with the front staff member next morning who said I must have forgotten to shut the door in the morning. I said funny that as the room got miraculously cleaned with the room serviced in the day. He seemed to make a note to mention to housekeeping about it and I said lucky I did not leave anything of value in the room. It gets better next day I go down to breakfast at 07.31 to find the breakfast room door shut and light off. I have to work and think the start time of 7.30 is a bit late. I go in and find the same front staff guy from previous day and cook having their breakfast and the guy asked if he could help me. I said yes by putting lights on and then he tried telling that breakfast was not open yet. The cook seemed a bit put out aswell. I said looking by my watch it should be open and I need to get work so helped myself and they carried on tucking into their breakfast. Staff to note - I think you NEED training you are serving customers NOT yourself!!!!!! Or did I go on the staff canteen (no it did say breakfast room). Finally as I left the hotel I asked what he had done about the security issue with the door and again he said I must have left the door open. What an idiot obviously no interested in customers personal belongings then. The Manager lady of the hotel seems great but when she is not around other staff are letting the place down. Shame
The worst experience in my life. When we arrive because we were having dinner out, the smell was horrible, it smelled like a farts and then I was gonna ask him something about the room, and I heard him farting in the reception. It was disgusting. It was at 23.35 on 29th Dec 2016.
We stayed here for three nights. The room was too small, in the panorama pics uploaded it looks big, but in reality it was too small for three people. Breakfast was average. The only good thing is the location, 2 min walk from Paddington station which is excellent. Disappointed.
When I did the check in, I met a spanish guy, Victor, who was helpful and nice with me and my son. He explained us the best places to visit in Christmas and Winterland. He was incredible. And when we did the check out, I didn't know how to get my National Express bus, and another spanish guy helped us explain how to arrive walking, he spent a lot of time because I am a bit awkward, but he said smiling "don't worry ma'am, I am here to help you". I was in 4 starts hotel, and i didn't feel so great like here with this staff. Thanks for all your help Victor and the anoher spanish guy
I've stayed in 3 Sussex Gardens hotels now because the location is so good for access to north London train stations and the city centre. I was greeted at this hotel by a very friendly receptionist, who could not have been more helpful. My room was a single and I know I got the last one at an incredible price for a night just before Christmas. My room was at the front of the house and therefore there was traffic noise but it's London! The room was small but that's fine; all I needed was the bed, which was comfortable. The duvet cover was striped satin but looked old but was perfectly serviceable and clean. My room had some scuffed paint on the wall and I couldn't get the changer for the TV to work but these were tiny problems for me. These hotels, all in wonderful old terraced houses, have put in minute (tiny) en-suites but this shower was wider than most (appreciated)! The bathroom was spotlessly clean. There is a lift to the rooms, which might help older or less able people.
Surprised that hotel has received so many bad reviews - overall hotel suited our needs unfortunately despite a few issues such as very poor lock on our door which left our room unlocked for Saturday evening and husband not sleeping ! We requested another room but none available rectified the next day. No water in rooms on Sunday night as problem throughout hotel also sorted by the time we got up - the staff especially the lady on reception Saturday night and the kitchen staff were very friendly and helpful. Breakfast could have a wider choice but adequate for our needs. I would like yo think that if we stayed again everything would be ok - HOWEVER LOCATION BRILLIANT FOR PADDINGTON STATION AND HYDE PARK ETC.
