In the basement bed hardly fitted the room. Shabby, grubby, noisey, need I go on! What shock me most was Thier insistence that they photocopied my credit card after they had taken payment??? Needless to say that didn't happen. They also insisted they copied my driving licence, armed with them two documents, the mind boggles! I stay at five or six hotels per month in the UK, never have I encountered such an outrageous demand?? Needless to say I won't be returning!
My daughter and her friend were at their first alone London trip this week. Three nights at the Brunel hotel, they arrived late and even tho I have booked a nice room for them for the nights there they the first night were put in an a very little room in the basement next to the kitchen but this first after they being forced to pay the three night all over again. The room was fully pre paid and the girls had my credit card with them that the payment was made from, I had called the hotel a few days before and asked and was told that the card that the booking was payed whit have to be showed at the reception. But they did not tell me that I have to send my ID also so the girls got two options from the receptionist in the middle of the night when they arrived from the airport, leave the hotel or pay it fully again!! What if I haven’t had 300 pounds on my card? Should the girls take all their food money’s? The money were re transferred on my card two days after but for two young girls this was terrifying when they were told to pay or leave 02 in the night when they now that the whole stay already were payed for weeks before, and everything were cleared by me also a few days before just to avoid things like this! After have read the reviews here it seems like the hotel try to put people in this tiny room in the basement the first night and after that change to the rooms on their punctures on their website preferably when guests are to tired to argue or to young.. Small quite poorly breakfast but good located!! The receptionist Ruben was everything but helpful and should not work in services at all ,and a another forign desk worker was very unhelpful also so even if the location is perfect our next stay in London in the spring will not be at the Brunel
One thing really great about this hotel is its LOCATION. Its a 3-5 mins walk to paddington station and the underground. The lift sucks though. Takes ages to come down or go up. Capacity is just 2 people without the luggage. We stayed in a double bedroom. Its a small bedroom though. The staff is really helpful.
Greetings, The good: Breakfast was amazing, always the same, but very complete. Staff was very friendly and booked me the type of room I requested, not in the basement and renovated. Location is top for what I wanted to see. Renovated room. The bad: The bed is veryyyyy small for a double, and very tall, it made me feel very unsafe and unconfortable and I actually missed some nights of sleep due to that. The wc although beautiful and renovated, the shower was horrible, its very tall, and when you enter there is nothing bellow the shower ground, so it just goes down with your weight, and you have to try to balance on the hard part which we believe it was some kind of water pipe. At night this same shower dripped water, a lot, which would wake me up constantly. If there wasnt for the shower and the bed it would have been a solid 4. Thanks, Best Regards.
Brunel Hotel is a nice 3 star hotel. Has a lot of rooms. Rooms are clean but small. Breakfast is excellent with all what you need. Avoid 4th floor as lift goes only to 3rd floor. Practical low price clean nice hotel. Walk 300m to Paddington station. Hotel is old and rooms have nice large TV but are also not that modern. People are very nice and helpful there.
Great location, not far from Paddington station or Hyde Park! Very friendly & helpful staff! Breakfast buffet was always excellent with very quick & efficient service. Room very tiny, which I understand is normal for London, but clean & tidy, with tea, coffee & biscuits provided daily. However, more hanging rails are needed in the bathroom to hang up hand towels. I would definitely stay here again & I would recommend it to friends & family!
I stayed at The Brunel Hotel for three nights with a friend in September 2017. We took the bus from Stansted, and the hotel was only a short walk from the busstop, which was nice as we arrived late and left very early. The hotel is also close to Paddington station, which will take you pretty much anywhere in London. The reception is open all the time, even during the night, and even though we arrived in the middle of the night, the man at the front desk was very friendly and made us fell very welcome. The rooms are small but nice. It's clean and nicely decorated, there's a Tv (which we didn't turn on, but it was there), cookies and tea that you can have if you want to. Breakfast is fine and includes bread, yoghurt, cereal products, fruit, scrambled eggs and sausages. I would definitely stay here again.
Great hotel if you are on a budget. Great location only few blocks from train station and Hyde Park. The front desk personnel very attentive and helpful. Free buffet breakfast had a fair variaty of food.
Oh dear, the basement story continues with another poor unsuspecting customer. Basing my booking on well angled photographs of a popular hotel booking site, the name itself, and the location we selected a twin room for three nights. A lift that has seen better days struggled with just one person and two bags groaning under the strain. Hoping to be dragged upwards we were unfortunately delivered in the opposite direction to a pitiful cramped room deep in the basement with little light and comfort. To me a twin room means two people with at least two bags each so at least give us some space to move around and store our bags. And to top this there was only one plug socket. So a twin room means two people with at least two devices each to charge, you get my drift. So where do we plug in the fan and where do we put it? Forget trying to iron at the same time. Breakfast okay but not nice in the basement. Sorry would never stay here again. I hope the other rooms are better! Great location for Paddington and tube but I would gladly walk further for a better hotel!
My stay at the Brunel hotel was marred by bedbugs in room 302. My friends and I were bitten such that when we returned to the USA two of us had to go to the doctor and get antihistamine shots. Besides the bedbugs, the elevator was repeatedly broken and the internet barely worked. The hotel is a hazard to one's health and will be reported to every oversight bureau I can report it to.
