The hotel itself is in good condition and the room was very nice. Just what I expected from the Capital. The staff at the hotel was good. However, the bartender was an absolute joke. I ate at the bar bc I wanted to eat and go to bed as I was tired. But, the bartender was paying no attention, I asked for a napkin 3 times and still have not seen it. If I knew his name I would give him a negative number. I had to ask for a menu, had to remind him of my drink order. Gumbo was lukewarm. He gave me the bill for the couple next to me. I made him give me my bill. Paid it still without a napkin. In the morning, the restaurant was not open but they finally opened it about 20 minutes late and there was no one in it. Sausage was raw and eggs were not hot. Food and restaurant service was horrible at best. I could run it better and I definitely do not know how to run a restaurant, but my son is a trained chef and hotelier with a degree from an Ivy League school. He is out of that business due to COVID and working for a gaming company now so I have seen it from both sides. Just bad!

The Hotel itself was unbelievably cool. We spend a lot of time at resorts, The Capital was everything those places aren’t; cool, comfortable, charming, with character to spare.

It is very expensive to stay, eat and drink at the Capital. I don't feel very safe walking from the hotel down to the Riverfront Area. But I love the facilities and staff. And the entire hotel and facilities are very clean.

Great Stay, Bad Hotels.com Experience

Stay itself was excellent but not due to Hotels.com. The reservation didn’t show up so we had to book again directly with the hotel. Hoping to get a refund through Hotels.com. The hotel.com price was originally $170 but Capital Hotel felt bad and gave us a discount knowing we were being charged again. ($130)

The staff at the Capital Hotel was excellent. From the valet who met us at the curb to take our car (parking was free), to the front desk and the concierge. All were helpful and friendly. We enjoyed the historic architecture and beautiful lobby. Our room was very quiet and we were able to sleep well. My only complaint was there seemed to be something off about the plumbing for the hot water. It fluctuated during showers for no apparent reason. Even with the plumbing issue, I would stay again in this gorgeous hotel!
A lovely hotel to stay in if you enjoy history and classic architecture. It was also fun to walk around downtown and get an ice cream cone.
We loved the huge lobby with its antique tile floors and beautiful arches.
We took an evening walk, using the route suggested by the concierge.
I recommend walking to the river at sunset. It’s very close to the hotel and there is art and a nice park.
