Experience pistes and premieres at Kimball Junction

Park City is famous for Sundance, the yearly film festival, and its dedication to arts and culture. Kimball Junction could easily be described as the heart of Park City. Here, instead of well-known corporations, visitors can find handmade goods and delicious cuisine from places such as Red Rock Brewing Company and Billy Blanco's. As one of the most popular ski towns in Utah, Park City gives visitors the chance to escape the demands of city living and enjoy the stress-free exhilaration of life on the slopes of the Rocky Mountains.

Sundance Film Festival

The first Sundance was held in 1985 and it continues to flourish today. Beautiful theaters have been established permanently to make sure the films presented during the festival are awarded the screenings they deserve. Visiting during this time is a unique experience, but Kimball Junction hotels can be crowded, so be sure to book early. Most venues showcasing films do not have parking lots, but shuttle services to and from your hotel are often free. See and be seen at the Sundance Film Festival—film industry greats stroll the avenues of Park City and event founder Robert Redford hosts an annual director’s brunch where these artists can unwind.

Kimball Arts Festival

The Kimball Arts Festival benefits the community by giving back every dollar from the admission price to arts education classes and maintaining the exhibits. In addition to canvas art, the festival acknowledges and celebrates music, sculptures and even food as part of Utah's cultural identity. This event lasts for an entire weekend and has something for both parents and children. Bring the kids out to explore and learn about art before ending the day with cuisine you won't find at home.

How to get to Kimball Junction

If you are flying into Utah, the closest airport is the Salt Lake City International Airport (SLC). The drive from the airport to Kimball Junction only takes about 30 minutes along Interstate 80 going east. However, you will be driving through the Rocky Mountains, so be careful of weather conditions and sharp turns. Luckily, public transport in Park City is totally free of charge, whether you need to board with skis, your bicycle or just your boots.

When to visit

Although Park City is well-known for its festivals, the surrounding mountains have much to offer travelers. If you are visiting during the winter, expect snow. Utah boasts the best snow in the world, and these magnificent mountains look otherworldly dusted in pure white. Ski resorts are scattered all around Kimball Junction, so you can hit slopes with varying levels of difficulty every day. Because these are such popular attractions, Kimball Junction hotels are proud to provide shuttle services to and from the ski lift, leaving your winter vacation hassle-free. Stay inside condominiums like Crestview, where beautiful new marble, slate and tile furnishings await, or try the Newpark Resort, where you can warm up in the hot tubs after a cold day out of doors.

During the summer months, the options are still vast. Strawberry Lake is nearby and it is a peaceful place to spend a day. Boat rentals allow you to explore the more difficult-to-reach areas of the lake, or you can travel the shores on foot. For swimming, fishing, hiking and even just enjoying the photo opportunities, this is an excellent natural attraction, and it's only accessible during summer months. Other hiking trails are also easily located around the Kimball Junction, such as Donut Falls. Or, if you are traveling with kids, Round Valley is a well-maintained walk that is mostly flat, allowing your little ones to roam free without worrying about hills or cliffs.
