Nice suite with full kitchen. Reasonable price. We were on river side of building, so quiet. Colleague was on "train" side, not so quiet ! Moxie's restaurant for breakfast two mornings, food was good BUT service was slow. Need more staff on call at that hour because business travellers are on timelines. Also, Moxie's did not like to charge meals to the room because something wrong with that connection, apparently for some weeks already. Again, a nuisance for business travellers who want everything on one expense receipt.
We stayed here two nights. I give this hotel an average score for the following reasons: First of all it's right next to the railroad track. Lots of trains going in both directions. The floor in the hotel vibrates every time a train goes by. Lots of noise as well. We requested a room facing the river and the park, which is not bad as far as train noise goes. We had a room with a single bed, the bed was good. The bathroom had only a shower and no bathtub, which was not mentioned to us when we booked. The TV reception was bad, every once and awhile the screen would go black with a notice: "No Connection". There was one chair in the room, it was a desk-office" chair. No other chairs. There was no information about Kamloops attractions in the room and no menu from the attached restaurant. The room was nice and clean. Also close to downtown and free parking. No continental breakfast here. The desk clerk told us to go to the attached restaurant where we had an average breakfast for almost 50 dollars! All in all my score is not above average.
I recently stayed at the Sandman Signature in Kamloops for 9 nights for a work trip Amenities: I booked a Kitchenette so I could have a little room to make snacks and whatnot. What I found was a full kitchen. Stove/Oven/Dishwasher/Toaster/Microwave/Mid-Size Fridge/Pots/Pans/Dishes, the works! This worked out well since the hotel does not supply a breakfast. A quick trip to the local Save-On-Foods and I was prepared! There was also a love-seat sized couch, and coffee tables in the living room, and also a TV in the living room and Bedroom. The Bed/comforter/sheets/pillows were fantastically comfortable. I was slightly confused by a strange device near the bed that, when switched on, sounded like a fan, but moved no air. My first night's sleep was somewhat broken as the trains going by the intersections woke me up. Turns out the device was a 'white noise generator' and when using it and the air conditioner/heater, I slept through the trains without a problem. Service: All the staff were very polite and helpful. The Check-In was effortless, as was Check-Out. The Restaurant staff were similarly quite good. The free coffee at the front entrance was much better than many other hotels. The Housekeeping staff were great! Every day after work I came home to a freshly ran dishwasher, fully stocked coffee station, and nicely made bed. Location: Directly to the North of the hotel is Riverside Park. This is a VERY nice area. There is lots of greenspace and beautiful trees. There is a walking path that starts at one end of the park and continues after the other end to go across the river and along the banks of the other side. Other things in the Park of interest are Tennis Courts, a Splash Pad area for the kids, a concession stand, an elevated dock that overlooks the Thompson River, and many attractions such as dedicated park benches/statue/fountain/etc. including a monument with markings indicating where the high floodwaters have been over time. Also if you play Pokémon Go, this Park is loaded with players. On the South side of the Hotel, just over/under the Train Tracks is Downtown Kamloops. There are about 6 million places to eat downtown, and many interesting shops and attractions. It is very easy to go out for a walk and end up 3 hours later in a restaurant you didn't even realize was there, enjoying local cuisine. Other: During my stay, the fire alarms went off 3 times. Twice on one night after 10:30 and once two nights later. All three times this was caused by a fault in the Restaurant's system, so there was no danger. There were a lot of sleepy grumpy people, but no one was hurt. Hopefully they get this fault repaired soon. On the upside, the Kamloops Fire department was there very quickly. Overview: I would totally stay here again, but I think I'd rather stay on the "Park View" side.
We had 7 people in our group. The six who booked a King bed got a room AWAY from the railroad tracks. I booked Queen beds and received a room NEXT to the tracks. I knew this going in, so it didn't bother me. There is NO horn from the trains, just the train bell and the rumble/ shaking from the actual trains. While sitting in a chair, I could literally feel the floor moving up and down. I felt nothing, however, when nestled in perhaps the most COMFORTABLE hotel bed I've ever been in. One of my workmates stated that she maximized her sleeping time in the room, because of how fantastic the bed was. This is a first class full-service hotel, which includes two restaurants and room service, something that's harder and harder to find these days. There appears, however, to be a problem with upkeep and maintenance. My bathroom sink faucet had a hole in the wall around it (see photo). In addition, the chain that controlled my blackout curtain was broken. One of my colleagues also noticed that wood surrounding her bed was broken and the glass atop the dresser was mismatched in size. My corporate rate was C$110 and parking was free. Bottom line, I'd definitely stay here again and would be happy to be trackside. If I was sharing my room, however, I'd make sure to book a room away from the train tracks.
I was only staying for one night to break my journey from Whistler to Jasper and this was a perfect location. I thought my suite was lovely - new, clean, very nicely furnished with a little balcony, comfortable bed and spacious bathroom. Lots of people talk about the trains - truth be told, I really liked the train noise. It was an added bonus for me (I was on the rail side of the hotel). I can understand, though, that it would not be much fun for light sleepers. Earplugs are provided! I had dinner in the onsite sports bar and it was good - all the staff were pleasant and it was all perfect for my needs.
The front desk advertises the kitchens in the suites to have "everything you need." No oven, lacking pretty basic kitchen items to make a real meal, I mean you couldn't even drain pasta in a colander if you wanted to. The suites are sectioned off into tiny rooms, so you dont really have anywhere to work, none of the suites have desks in them, and I am here for work, so pretty bummed about that. Also, they don't have breakfast, toiletries, the coffee always tastes foul in the lobby, and the TV's in the gym are never working. The cable on one of the TV's in my room was also messed up. I was woken up one night to a fire alarm, which another guest told me had been sounding 3 nights during her stay. The following night, they phoned me at 11:00 pm to ask me to move my car because they bartender needed to walk by it to empty his recycling in some storage cage nearby. Really? No coin laundry available. Positives: new building, clean, friendly staff.
not happy with the room changed, I had booked a month in advance and specifically wanted a Jacuzzi suite, the whole reason we made the booking to have a nice couple get away. no notification given! not happy customer
Room was standard, looks like it had been renovated, wallpapered right over the old electrical outlets?!?. Has anybody else mentioned Trains????? at all hours, even on the park side, the bed shakes like a 5.5 earthquake. Fire alarms work!!!! Some jackass in the restaurant pulled the alarm, after getting settled back in the room it went again an hour later.... Some part of the fire warning system in the room has a strobe light and a reset switch, randomly throughout every night we were there, a light like a camera flash went off every 20 - 80 minutes followed by a 'click, click, click' resetting of something in the system. Excellent entertainment at 2:30 when the bar let out, a very animated shouting match outside the hotel, went on for a good 15 minutes - kids got to learn some choice words. About an hour later, revelers had an all out domestic argument in the hallway inside the hotel, seriously you people need a counselor, not more booze. Would stay here again if there was no other hotel option within an hours drive.....
Best customer experience from beginning to end. I've never felt so welcomed. All the staff are kind and helpful. Alex Hungar was one of the most friendly Front Office Managers i had the pleasure of meeting. I would definitely stay here again for my business trips as well as personal trips.
First impressions are lasting ones.....I checked into a sparkling clean room. with separate bedroom and bathroom and a combo sitting room and fully equipped kitchen...dishwasher, micro, full fridge, ceramic top stove and all pots and pans....great. The other room amenities are right up there....iron, great comfortable bed and awesome pillows..... I had been warned about the trains.....but in reality....they are not that annoying.....however if you want to sleep with your window open....you really should get a room on the "parkside" facing the rivers....I will say however that the vibrations that are set up by the passing coal trains is somewhat unnerving, as it is a similar feeling to minor earthquakes.....but after two or three days, I hardly noticed it anymore...the underground parking is big. Elevator access is limited to those with a keycard. I did use the pool and hot tub and they were very good.....I would have given the hotel a superior rating, but I experienced two false alarms of the fire system and no explanation was ever given, nor was any hotel staff attending to guests who evacuated to the parking lot...bad PR guys....
