The property and the room were terrible. It is right along the railroad tracks that were quite busy through the night, disrupting my sleep. I would not choose to stay there again, even though Steve the check-in clerk was very courteous.
Steve is a great guy. Very accommodating and down to earth. He showed me the best places on his property for me to excercise my dog. Will definitely stay here on my next trip west
Very friendly stuff and very friendly owner. However the main problem was the trains. There are many different trains throughout the evening and throughout the middle of the night. The trains horns as well as the train tracks alarm , woke us up multiple times every evening!
The property owner was nice as can be and I will stay there again. There is a train track right across the street but it wasn't so bad. Again the owner was very accommodating and sweet and there was breakfast in the morning.
Vintage motel, needs updating
I liked the proximity to the area of both Huron and Sandusky. The traffice was smooth and the access to piers and other waterfront activities was great. The only down side to the property is that it is across from the railroad and trains go all night long and blow their whistle every time. It was difficult to sleep soundly with the constant and frequent trains going by all night. I loved it though and the owner/operator was fantastic.
We had a pleasant stay. Our favorite thing was how friendly and thoughtful the staff were. The owner/manager, Steve, is such a great guy!! He thinks of the details that matter and works very hard to ensure you are comfortable and have what you need. The grounds are well-kept, and we enjoyed getting to come back to it in between our activities in the area. Al, the cream and white colored cat who lives there, was a big hit with the kids! He is such a pretty cat, and we loved getting to meet and pet him. I was worried the room may smell like animals due to pets being welcome. That was not the case at all. I was very pleased when I entered the room that it smelled so nice and fresh. We want to return to the area and plan to stay at Maples again.
Stated free breakfast. Coffee and a apple, not breakfast. Overpriced
The family room worked out very well for our family of 5. We all loved the pool and the donuts each morning! You can even access trails at the next door nature preserve directly from the hotel property and there's another public park with playground just across the RR tracks. Speaking of... The trains were loud and frequent, but after the first night didn't bother anyone. The AC unit also provided good white noise for the kids in the back half of the room.
The motel is old, but clean and has everything needed for a short stay. We did not use the pool but it looked very clean. The owner is pleasant and friendly. The only issue I had was the train. It was running constantly it seemed like and it is right outside the motel. I woke up maybe 10 times during the night. I highly recommend bringing ear plugs.
Very nostalgic. Staff was very friendly. Steve was an excellent host, along with Al the office cat.

Thank you so much for staying with me and taking the time to write such a kind review. Hope to see you in the future if you're back in Sandusky. Thanks again. Steve
