Public spaces in this hotel appeared well maintained and clean. HOWEVER All that ended when we entered the room (Standard King). The bed linens were pilled and scratchy, making them very uncomfortable. The rug around the bed appeared not to have been vacuumed, and trash was left behind by the previous occupant. Bathroom towels were discoloured, and one wash cloth was dingy gray with some greenish moldy discoloration (photos available upon request). No manner of fan-style folding could hide the fact that this particular wash cloth had not seen the inside of a washing machine or detergent or bleach in a long time. As for comfort: the mattress and pillows were to the left of very firm. Not at all to my personal liking, but may appeal to some. Shower had adequate pressure. Toiletries provided were Gilchrist & Soames, a reputable brand, but incomplete: 3 small soaps & a conditioner do not amenities make. The hair dryer was smeared with what could have been mistaken for someone’s makeup at best, questionable greasy smear at worst. Coffee cups felt as if they’d been washed in furniture polish & had to be scrubbed out before we could use them. As this is a property adjacent to James Madison University-one that bills itself also as a conference Center-the expectation is that it would be higher quality. That expectation clearly fell short for this traveler. Absent the pandemic, better paid staff, and white glove room inspection, I would not stay nor would I recommend this hotel.

Looks beautifully decorated for the holidays.

Beautiful location next to the JMU Campus. We walked downtown to some restaurants and shops, the hotel is in a perfect location.

Great Southern Hospitality. Very nice modern rooms

This hotel was fantastic. Service was great, room was clean and spacious. They had a gym and pool which was great - we just wished they had a hot tub too but no big deal. We also loved that they had a bar in the lobby which came in handy on a few nights. The coffee shop that is attached to the hotel is only open on weekends so we didn’t get to go but it had good reviews. We walked into the downtown area of Harrisonburg within 10 minutes. I recommend this hotel to everyone!

Beautiful property. Next door to james madison university. Easy to get into parking garage..

We stayed at this hotel for 3 nights for a trip to Shenandoah National Park. Although on the surface it appeared to be a nice hotel, we were not at all pleased with its cleanliness. There were saltine crackers--yes crackers--underneath the mattress pad of the bed! We found a piece of cereal next to the table in the kitchen. The knives in the drawer were dirty, and the dishwasher smelled so terribly we did not put anything in it. We complained to the front desk and they "re-cleaned" the room. In light of COVID19, the cleanliness issue are extremely concerning.

The hotel is beautiful and it felt very clean. The location to the campus is fabulous. We were able to walk to some local restaurants and the food was fabulous. We arrived a little early and one of our two rooms was ready. The front desk said they would have a room ready for us later in the day near our first one. That didn't happen. They put us on a different floor on the other side of the hotel and didn't have the amenities that were on my reservation. The hotel was not busy at all. We only saw a few people. The first person charged $15 for incidentals to my room and the second charged $25. Evidently they had coffee in the lobby in the morning, but neither person told me. It was all gone by 8:30 am. The breakfast was closed due to COVID. There was not any coffee supplies in my room, but the cleaning woman gave me some after I tracked her down. Everyone wore a mask, but the sanitizer stations were mostly empty. Parking is super convenient and the lobbies are beautiful.

Quiet rooms! Beautiful new hotel, lots of lounging room.

Very clean. Bedding super comfortable. Highly recommend!

My second visit to this property and even in the throes of a pandemic, when all the rules have changed, I was just as impressed - maybe even more so. Impeccably clean, comfortable, convenient, and extremely accommodating.

Very, very accommodating for Handicap access, the best we have ever stayed. Confortable bed and very pleasent staff. I will stay again!

The place is beautiful and very clean. The service was outstanding.

Beautiful hotel and wonderful staff! We will stay again if we are ever back in Harrisonburg!

We appreciate that you chose Hotel Madison for your Harrisonburg accommodations but are disappointed as well in the experience you described. It's not what we normally hear, especially when we have both a cleaning and a separate inspection process. We always consider all feedback and will discuss yours with management — thank you for taking the time.
